Shane had left that town for a good reason. He hadn’t imagined himself coming back, but here he was. He had decided in a split-second decision to move back, bringing his 13-year-old brother Derek along. Although, much to Shane’s dismay, he had not shut up about the ghost stories revolving around the town for about an hour. This, reasonably, caused trivial distress to Shane. “Can… Can you please stop talking about those stories..?” exhaled a breath he hadn’t even realized he was holding.
This caused Derek to slouch in his seat, “You have no proof of them being just stories..” He’d murmur. “Listen, you know how I feel about those… Topics. They are just…. Disturbing, I mean… You need to stay in reality, the present, what matters now…” Shane tried to lecture, but his soft-spoken voice made it difficult.
The rest of the car ride was eerily silent, aside from the heavy sighs from Shane as he attempted to convert his thoughts into conversation to no avail. “Y-You know..” Shane started, “I think Ash will be very pleased to see you again.. I mean, its been a long while since you’ve seen her..” Shane tried to lighten the tension. “Yeah..!” Derek agreed happily.
That was when they passed the sign reading ‘Lakewood; town of great fortune.’
Fortune… Hm, maybe that would be a turnaround for these two… At least, I hope.
As the trees casted a shadow overhead, they reached a medium-sized household, vacant, about 5 minutes from where Ash settled down.. It was oddly nice. And as they stepped out of the car, a white, grimy, and dirty white van pulled up, the familiar blonde-haired woman stepping out, “Hm. Seems you two actually made it.” She’d state, almost impressed.
“Ashley! Oh, its so nice to see you again!” Shane walked over to the chest-height woman, only for her to roll her eyes and step out of the way. “Yeah. Whatever. I don’t want you doing anything stupid, got it?” Ash spat out, Shane’s face turning to one of defeat.
As hours went on, night fell, Derek and Shane in the house putting away boxes, though, Shane couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched, and the weird purple blur he saw outside the window once he turned around didn’t help…
Maybe a late night walk would help.
