i did get to see some very uncommon line power today. 3 phase corner grounded delta. most things i touch are gonna be wye, rarely delta or delta-wye. if it's 3 phase, you test any wire to ground and you get 120, 277 or 347. and then test any two ungrounded wires and get that value times square root of 3 (208, 480, 600)*. in this one....i got 240 to ground on two of them, 0v to ground on the remaining and 240 between any two wires. i knew it had to be something unusual, something delta-y and found the answer.

*if its center tapped delta you will get the line voltage doubled instead when using the high leg

actually lets do some diagrams

sensible, sane wye. you can get your single phase 120v loads and 3 phase 208v loads. its easy to identify any two wires of this system when you have ground.

thats center tapped delta. shes a little crazy with that 240v bastard leg (wild leg, high leg, etc) but you can get those 120v single phase loads...not too many of them. you see this with more industrial places.

aaaand theres the weirdo i saw today. didnt expect to see her in a dorchester pub as a separate service to the building just for the rooftop ac unit. it has to be separate because you cant get any 120v single phase out of this. if you test it and assume it's like the others, you'll think it's a broken system when one of your "three line conductors" tests 0 to ground but 240v to another line conductor.

okay you got your meter right? you remembered all that? good, now get out there and find 3 examples of each, you will be graded

The panda cub is at a development point where he supposedly understands 50 words or so and a few basic commands. He definitely does understand when I say some things. When I say water cup he grabs his. He knows car, kitty, outside, shoes, ball, night night, and book.

But I think my favorite of his known words is cheese snack, because if I say it he will stop whatever he's doing and bolt to the fridge where he'll proceed to smack the door. You know in case I forgot where string cheese lives.
