Alternative Spell Books
Books are the most common media for magic. The portability and ease of stacking spells (and volumes) makes them ideal for many, but there are countless variations. For instance, reptilian witches often carve glyphs into their scales.
Forest sprites on long journeys stuff pouches with painted leaves. The magic lasts until the leaves dry out or are eaten.
Magic users with a technology background sometimes use USB sticks charged with enchantments, often programmed to convert electricity into spell energy.
In areas where magic need be hidden, pencils work surprisingly well and are favored by pixies in human form. Pens tend to explode due to an inherent conflict between magical spells and mundane ink.
Kraken, lacking hands but being spoiled with tentacles, use a water jet-based technique. Spells are imbued into currents of water exhaled from their bodies. They are then gathered up and woven together by the creature’s tentacles and kept orbiting around them until they are called upon for use. This method is often used to duplicate and share spells amongst the leviathans.
Sentient deserts work the wind to carve elaborate glyphs into sand dunes, often to trap or protect creatures slumbering within.
Why Did God Create Atheists?
There is a famous story told in Chassidic literature that addresses this very question. The Master teaches the student that God created everything in the world to be appreciated, since everything is here to teach us a lesson.
One clever student asks “What lesson can we learn from atheists? Why did God create them?”
The Master responds “God created atheists to teach us the most important lesson of them all — the lesson of true compassion. You see, when an atheist performs and act of charity, visits someone who is sick, helps someone in need, and cares for the world, he is not doing so because of some religious teaching. He does not believe that god commanded him to perform this act. In fact, he does not believe in God at all, so his acts are based on an inner sense of morality. And look at the kindness he can bestow upon others simply because he feels it to be right.”
“This means,” the Master continued “that when someone reaches out to you for help, you should never say ‘I pray that God will help you.’ Instead for the moment, you should become an atheist, imagine that there is no God who can help, and say ‘I will help you.’”

I started reading this and was worried it would be something attacking atheists, or bashing religion, but this makes me really, really happy.
imagine that there is no God who can help, and say ‘I will help you.’”
Holy shit.
Holy shit.
Yes. YES.
Having been tipped off about Lyth's birthday being soon (and thanks to Marie making sure he remembered), Skarloey and Marie tried making the best cake they could do, they weren't too sure about presents, but they gave it a chance with a pocket watch made from her favourite metal with her favourite gemstones as decorations.
A blink, and she peered at the gift and cake. She chuckled softly and carefully tucked the watch away and decided to partake in a slice of the cake.
"I have heard it was your Nameday," Naiko said with a warm smile. Soon taking out a charm of a sky blue crystal in the shape of a feather along with a sliver feathers. Not good with gifts, but will this simple gift be alright?
“Where do you all keep hearing about this? Is there a faerie whispering it in the ears of others?” Regardless, Lyth is smiling and accepts the charm. “I shall treasure it always, Miss Naiko.”
He can't offer much to the dragoness, so he comes with a crown woven with flowers; each carry some symbolic meaning and it's been carefully crafted. A smile is present when he offers it up to her, "I heard it was your birthday, Frau Lyth; happy birthday!"
A small pause, and the dragoness blinked. How did he...?
Lyth smiled, and chuckled softly; kneeling so that Mär could place the crown of flowers on her head.
“Thank you, Mär, I appreciate it.”
It was Lyth's Birthday and the Dragoness might have found her freezer filled with Shark Meat. She also might have found a necklace made with wood and shell beads, hand carved on the night stand next to her bed when she woke up this morning. Finally, she might have found Emerald half-asleep on the couch, home early from a particularly long mission.
The necklace was the first item she noticed as she finally dragged herself up from sleep, yawning slightly as she then (reluctantly) got up from her warm nest. She looked around for a bit, seeking out the scent of shark before Lyth finally went to the couch to gently flop on Emerald to go back to sleep.
The necklace was clasped in her hand as she curled up as much as she could on the small space.
Expect the biggest of hugs from your adoptive son. Right now, actually.

Ah!
Lyth laughed, pleasantly surprised as she hugged Hriob back with just as big as she could considering.
“Hello Hriob, haven’t seen you in quite some time.” The dragoness grinned up at him, pulling away slightly from the hug. “I presume you’re doing well?
He only shook his head with a warm, tender smile, and thrust the package gently yet inexorably into her arms.
“…Mutti… you are always my family, you have been thus longer than anyone else, and shall eternally be so in my heart. Nothing will change that… Now open your birthday present already.”
All she had to do was open the box, and she’d receive her presents all around her, neatly summoned… a beautifully forged and inscribed halberd; laden with enough enchantments to make it a perfect tool for defense, training, or even simple decor… an unseeming barrel that used a wind-up-key on the top to reveal and rotate one of the most comprehensive and generous herb/spice-racks ever assembled… and, of course, a ‘small’ bookshelf of tomes; hand-written in a larger, easy-to-read font yet serious in both scope and content, everything from experimental cooking to complex spellcraft, advanced martial arts to ancient history.
He must have worked hard on all of her gifts given the grin on his face at their unveiling.
A pause as she looked over the gifts, tho she did give a warm, yet tired smile as he mentioned about being family. It was good that... he remembered that. Lyth had to wonder how long it had been since she even felt remotely at peace.
It was difficult.
A soft murmur of appreciation over the halberd, tho she would perhaps leave it as a decoration. The dragoness still favoured her old one. When the time came to replace it, she would use this one; Lyth decided. A nod of approval at the spice rack. Very useful that would be.
The final gift had her sole attention, examining the books by picking one at random, and flipping to a page to read an excerpt. A smile was given, and she gave a soft, contented growl of approval. “I thank you, Hriob. These are wonderful gifts.” She would set them to the side as best as she could - the books still holding her captive somewhat - to give her attention to the faeling. “I suppose I should give you your gift now? Or would you like to wait until the day of?”

“Still busy as ever, but I’m doing well, Mutti. As are the mate and fledgling… Have you been fine as well? You aren’t wrong about how long its been.”
With a grin, the larger of the two looked down slightly as he pulled a small box from his cloak, the ribbon oddly rune-engraved yet somehow tasteful-looking in a subtle, unassuming way.
“I hope you don’t mind a small gift, I know you’re not big on ceremony for this sort of thing…”
A blink, and she gave a shrug; trying to hide the sigh that left through her nose. “Been as fine as I can be. Mostly... been sleeping. It’s not been that long has it? Only a few months?” Lyth blinked, staring at the gift with a curious air, reaching out to take it. A brief inspection had her approval, before she looked up at Hriob with a small smile.
“For me? Hriob you know you shouldn’t have.” A soft chuckle. “You don’t have to go so far out of your way to deliver something when you could be with your family.”
The Demon places a triple-layered chocolate cake in front of the Birthday Girl, before gingerly resting a fur-lined jacket across her shoulders. The outer layer was a deep black, though the warm, cozy inner fur had a distinctive ivory color. "Happy Birthday, Lyth."
S-So much cake! Was this truly all for her? A-And the coat --
Lyth burrowed instinctively into it, mrring softly; pressing the fur against her cheek.
“Daanke. V-Vati.” She finally chirped out, leaning over to hug Aamon.
Because Lyth enjoys baked goods, I thought to give her a cake, but due to her high standards that is not a smart idea. However, since Lyth also enjoys the act of baking, the logical gift to stem from this idea is the highest-quality cake ingredients that money can buy, delivered fresh to the bakery's doorstep.
“Goodness... I suppose I have little much to do but make myself a cake then.” She seems bemused, despite her stoic expression.

Another year has passed already, hm?
Goodness, the years pass by so quickly now. Almost impossible for her to keep up.
are u the “i gotta to save everyone” protagonist or the “i did not sign up for this shit” protagonist
#like i did not sign up for this shit but i’m gotta save everyone but i’m gonna be really bitter about doing it
◤(un)popular opinion; i’m not really a fan of muses who pull the ‘i’m not afraid of you, lol’ card with dangerous or powerful muses when they are being threatening ( or even if they appear humble or cute but are full of power ). if it wasn’t for being called god modding, i’m 700% sure these more powerful muses would have, could have, should have killed another muse if they persistently irritate them. especially if the offending character is a run of the mill human. unless your muse has dealt with similar monsters/menacing personalities/dangerous situations - try not to antagonize deadly muses to the point of obvious rage knowing the writer can’t really write them killing your muse even though that is completely in their nature to do so.
Tell me I’m cute or something so I can like roll my eyes at you but then blush when I think about it later
