i used to do a lot of homestuck stuff, and id reccomend writing it normal and then saying something like “the text is written in (character)’s quirk” and if you feel like it, describe what the quirk is (ex: “the text is written in Kanaya’s quirk, with the first letter of every word capitalized”) or something like that!

fyi for that anon who asked about homestuck! i just wanted to boost this reply cuz these are great tips. full disclosure, i have never looked at a homestuck in my life so i really don’t know the best way to translate it into text lol

upd8 spoilers ahoy, but concerning dirk:

i think an important point of contention people have abt the epilogue and dirks character isn’t that oh god he’s evil that’s not dirk dirk could NEVER be evil, or at least it shouldn’t be. i think the epilogue does a really good job conveying the potential dirk has to truly go off the deep end when left unchecked, especially in the context of what i am pretty sure is happening in the epilogue where he is experiencing an ascension like rose, but his deals with his splinters and subsequently his connection to them plus his splinters happen to include bro, doc scratch, and lord english. maybe this link to english is what causes him to endorse so wholly in jane’s condy-esque transformation and maybe that makes it make more sense why mature calliope is so directly butting heads with him, maybe the doc scratch part is what leads him to be so fucking creepy with rose, to pushing her into her ascension and using her. maybe the bro part is what makes him directly meddle with dave and his relationship troubles because it’s “for his own good” who fucking knows. what i’m saying is i think the sadness around dirk is more about how fucking lost the dude got. like he loves to think he has everything in control, but as we saw before in homestuck he really doesn’t. he likes to think he’s got a good handle on his own increasing power, but maybe it straight up broke his brain. he’s the prince of heart and a  prince works in destruction. maybe he’s being destroyed by himself. or maybe he is just a fucking asshole, who knows.

i’d like to think the growth we saw in the actual canon part of the webcomic, the part that wasn’t stated as a weird flimsy “who knows how canon it is or not woooo”, was real. that dirk saw himself and his tendencies, what it did to his friends, what it had done to his brother in another life, and wanted to be better. 

upd8 dirk makes me sad bc it feels like the dude was kinda forgotten. like everyone forgot everyone else, really. they all sectioned off and forgot one another in this new world regardless of which path you choose. things are different and weird. it’s made them different and weird. and for someone like dirk who does have some pretty asshole-ish natural tendencies, for a dude who only started to do better because of his friends and not just being all on his lonesome, maybe not so surprising he’s real fucked. especially if like i said, he’s experiencing all splintered aspects of himself.

anyways yeah this turned into a ramble but i wanted to splurge some of my thoughts on it. who knows

hot take on the epilogue shit: maybe don’t send the authors stuff being like you’re responsible for self harm and suicidal thoughts and you should go fuck yourself for what you’ve done??

like it wasn’t good at all i ain’t saying that but do you understand that it’s kind of fucked up telling esssntially a stranger that they’re responsible for you wanting to die? shit made me kind of go off the deep end for a hot minute too but you have to acknowledge that your reaction isn’t because of them it is because of you, your own shit and your own mental struggles and it’s really horrible putting these people in a position where you are trying to make them feel personally responsible for your mental illness.

you also have to remember that the epilogues exist in canon ether, like there are large chunks of the epilogue dedicated to describing what is and isn’t canon and the weird state in which earth c resides and consequently the epilogues themselves. and honestly it’s all written in fanfiction format so i think the implication there is you can literally just write your own shit on ao3 and that’s just as valid?

i understand that homestuck has been around for a long ass time and a lot of us have kind of grown up with it, so i get the attachment and associations to characters and how deeply shit cuts when it’s involved, but we all have to keep in check the fact that this is a fictional work and we ultimately have the ability to decide how and why this affects us, and it was stated in these epilogues explicitly that making this our own in our own ways, picking and choosing or interpreting however and whatever, is valid. you can be mad and upset about it but don’t go so far as to make people you do not know feel personally responsible for your struggling mental or physical health.
