Emily has a cold, and we see her blowing her nose all day at Runway, but then she doesn't bring any tissues with her to the Benefit. She doesn't want to show any weakness. Miranda decided to bring Andy along too because she thought Emily wouldn't be able to do her job properly, and Emily would be desperate to prove she could.
So she tries to force herself to act the way she would if she wasn't ill. She didn't bring tissues with her out of sheer stubbornness. Instead, she pinches her nose and hopes for the best.
Then, as the night goes on, she just blatantly sniffles (definitely regretting not bringing tissues along anyway)
Then there's Andy. Andy has watched her deal with this horrible cold all day, and she knows Emily well enough to know that she would never have brought tissues for herself. She also knows her well enough to know that she would need them anyway.
So here, Andy produces a tissue from her bag, that she'd clearly brought just for Emily, and hands it to her.
And Emily looks just so genuinely grateful for that. She's reached the point where she's just a little too worn down to care as much about appearances, and a little relief is welcome.
She accepts that tiny little bit of relief Andy offers her. She would have told anybody else that she was fine and didn't need anything. She trusts Andy by now. Not just as a coworker but as someone she feels safe around.
She'd already admitted to Andy earlier in the day that she felt like 'death warmed up' - again something she would only admit to Andy. Emily trusts that Andy won't look at her any differently for having moments of vulnerability. Especially when those moments are actually met with care (which Emily isn't used to).
This little moment is such a huge indicator that Emily was already really soft for Andy, before Andy saves her job. Already a little taken with the girl who notices her and her needs as well as Miranda's. Unexpectedly fond of the kindness Andy kept showing her.
Trust like this takes time to develop (especially considering this is Emily Charlton we're talking about)so, in conclusion, Emily had wanted to be friends with Andy long before this night.
