Last Scene Of Hacks + Table Read
(x)
"we have to accept the fact that the r word is coming back" NO WE DONTTTT NO WE DONT
no matter platonic, romantic, romantic - non sexual, coworkers, creative partners, business partners, life companions, it's many, it's all of these, ava and deborah have the best relationship ever and if I have a wish, it'd be to find someone who'd love me, inspire me, enrage me, wound me, adore me, as much as these two do it for each other
Deborah and Ava + Ava's hands
My feelings about the Hacks series finale continue to be all over the place but that’s hardly based on the finale which I felt was one of the strongest series finales of any show I have ever seen and is instead entirely due to the fact that I lost my wife to cancer just after season 3 of this show we both loved aired. To say I cried ugly tears for 50 minutes and haven’t been the same since is an understatement.
4x10 | 5x10
Jean nor Hannah had received a nod for their work this season so it’s only fitting that they do for the series finale. And, I’d argue, it was their finest acting of the entire series.
Still recovering from the series finale, but one comment I want to make before I forget.
Lucia Aniello and the cinematography deserve major props for a particular type of imagery that they have proved repeatedly they do exceptionally well: Jean Smart as Deborah Vance dancing (in real-time or slo-mo).
Goddamn you, Hacks. The tissue box that hadn’t been next to my tv chair for almost a year now has made a return.
You get transported into the universe of the last media you consumed. How are you doing?
This is better than my real life
I'm doing well
I'm doing fine
I'm not having a good time
I'm absolutely cooked
There is nothing different about this universe and my own
Oh god I’m sobbing at the way Ava describes their relationship
‘it’s evolved into something hard to describe. We’re writing partners, roommates, and in the end - best friends’
‘we’re both headstrong women who have different points of view on just about everything but we do agree on enough to not want to hang out with anybody else’
‘Why me to tell this story? … I’m the only one who can’
Guest star question… (spoilers for season 5 of Hacks)
If you were an Emmys voter, would you choose the guest spot (and total surprise) of Laurie Metcalf returning as Weed or Kaitlin Olson in the Amazing Race episode as your best performance my an actress in a guest role?
While I was delighted to see Weed, the way DJ barely maintained her sanity as she did the clown dance with Deb over and over again might actually be my favorite moment with a guest star in season 5. It might also be my favorite moment of DJ’s since season 1.
I also loved Ann Dowd, but that was too short and random to be a nominee.
Jean’s real life boyfriend playing Ava’s mom’s boyfriend on Hacks had me guffawing. And he’s a windsurfer because of course he is.
About to watch The Devil Wears Prada 2 in a little independent theater all by myself.
