morning dash! happy pride! im so sorry i started this blog so gung ho and then immediately got swamped at work (this seems to happen every time) but i do have all my drafts formatted so im coming. fear not. in the meantime, just know all myself and mimi muses across the board are celebrating with you :) rex is a pretty late blooming bisexual, he didn't grow up with a lot of people so much as scientists and droids, and by the time he joined the teen team he was still figuring out who he was outside of a lab. but he gets there! kyle is not only bi himself (there was a kiss that dc editorial scrapped because it was The Nineties) but helped his best friend discover and feel comfortable his own sexuality, and left earth in the defense of another green lantern when he felt disgusted by a lack of love and support for it. dick is pansexual and gnc/androgynous, and was raised in an atmosphere of vibrant self expression and acceptance among other showmen!

there's a kind of fire beneath closed lids. a red warmth visible even beneath the dark of sleep, not dissimilar to staring into the sun with one's eyes closed. it's not the star, but it's a near miss. barbara shines just as brightly. when deep blue exposes itself through the flickering lift of lashes, pearled smile pushes cavernous dimples wide, and a scratchy laugh rifts against the air at the sight unfolding. " where did you get party hats before eight in the morning ? " the ticket tucked neat inside the card falls onto crisp sheets, thumb and forefinger plucking it up to flick it teasingly at freckled nose, right against the bridge of her glasses. where it falls next is out of sight, out of mind, and his frame rises just enough to move haley downward with a sweet ruffle of silver, silken ears, before his arms move to lift his real gift onto the bed herself. " you, for starters. " smile remains moored, even as lips move to press soft against her own. " and then nothing. all day. and then you again later. "

He's at his front door at an ungodly hour (not an uncommon occurrence for the likes of them), shaking raindrops from his hair like a wet dog as a fluorescent smile splits his face at the sight of him. "Happy birthday, Wingster." He states, mellowed rasped not energetic enough to be a proper exclamation, though the well of sentimentality arising within him laced through the delivery of each word. "Wanna have takeout on the floor from your favorite place that's open past midnight? My treat." He offers as he strides past him into his apartment, never waiting for a proper invitation to do so. As he does, he presses a folded piece of paper into the acrobat's palm, the same which, unfolded, revealed a heartfelt note doodled on all throughout. "Oh, and Lian sends her love."

" the name is drawn out in accordance with a megawatt grin, one hand pushing the door shut behind roy, the other completing the tug-down of a shirt freshly pulled over showered skin. the paper pushed into his palm is flipped wide open with calloused thumb, sapphire sight flicking downwind to pool over its contents. the note, sweet and sentimental, sinks its verbiage warm into his chest, and dick can't help the need to tear his eyes away before they linger of their own accord at the message between the lines. the colored wax strewn about, love in every margin. the paper is tucked with care into the pocket of his sweats. " yeah, you bet. " warm hand claps at the archer's shoulder, thumb grazing the crook of his neck appreciatively, and they fall in tandem onto a comfortable sit on a sofa too worn. " anywhere's gonna have a wider selection than my fridge. unless you want birthday bran muffins i swiped on the way in this morning. " the note wears heavy in his pocket between their pressed legs, and he can't help the subtle shift closer, minute increments eager to close the space. " thanks, buddy. "

i'll be doing some cleanup here this weekend ! maybe a graphics refresh, definitely a deep clean of posts/followers. i think i'd feel a lot better sweeping the blog entirely and having a clean slate. i feel like i literally just did this a couple months ago but it helps so much after a period of inactivity ........ and tomorrow and this whole weekend really it's dickie day so expect me

time seems to slow in his prolonged inspection of the side of Dick's face, pondering the inner workings of his mind as intensely as the other seemed to mull over whatever had been eating away at his attention in the last half hour of their time together. it seemed their rare moments of recreational time together were fated to be plagued by the acrobat's difficulty switching gears, his nervous system so frazzled by the constant vigilance his mentor expected of him that it made any shift into normalcy unnecessarily difficult. the lack of attention was as much a thorn at Roy's side as the inevitable loss of the ease @bludbird would eventually find come the end of their sojourn once back in his natural habitat. it usually drove the archer mad to have to try so hard just to get Dick to snap out of his severity and pay attention to him, though it currently worked in his favor. the acrobat's innatentiveness helped cover Roy's fixation, lest his natural perceptiveness note the way Roy's piercing gaze had remained trained along the sharp outline of Dick's tensed jawline as it ground throughout his deep introspection

“ hey, Rob. ” the archer clears his throat and tries his hand at breaking whatever trance had overtaken the other, shifting further onto his side and propping himself up on his elbow to lean in closer against where Dick laid beside him on the floor. it was to no avail, the acrobrat seemingly lightyears away from him. Roy exhales a long-suffering sigh, eyes rolling dramatically with what little patience he could currently afford the Boy Wonder before his palm reaches out to grip the side of his face, forcing it to turn towards him. “ Dickie, what gives ? you've been here for almost an hour and we've said like four words. what the hell am i supposed t'brag about the next time I see West and rub our hang outs in his face ? you're literally giving me nothing to work with. ”

he's not certain he's got it all down pat. it eats at him ; the idea alone that he might be missing something. the night before, a patrol with his mentor, case closed clean. it doesn't feel that way. not with the way bruce's gaze lingered, the downturn of his mouth igniting something offputting in his chest, stone-heavy and thick. a years-long puzzle, never fully deciphered. the acrobat could never be certain if it was a look of disappointment in something he had failed to bring to attention, some unspoken test he was meant to pass with flying colors, a failure to meet expectations - or if it was something of bruce's own making, dick uninvolved altogether. it's the not knowing that sits uncomfortably. it's the uncertainty, the quadruple checking all his steps that renders him speechless now. lost in thought when he should be, deserves to be, off the clock.

the only buoy that pulls him ashore effectively is roy's hand at his cheek, a rope thrown into his descending, cavernous loss of time and space. dickie, he hears, sees the archer's lips move, and sapphire eyes dip with a blink in alerted response. he's in roy's room. he knows where he is. he knows when he is. " sorry. " it's croaked out something hoarse, something still far away, but his eyes aren't unfocused anymore. it's progress. even fragmented. body rolls onto his side, leg shifting beneath, an elbow propping his weight up deliberately. " sorry, " tries a second time, foot prodding out to nudge at the other's leg. " i'm here. i swear. you can brag about almost kicking my ass in a one on one. but i'm about to whoop yours. "

dark brow rises to crest against his hairline. the sight of tim asleep beneath the broad, bright screens of the cave pulls taught at the strings of a heart far too eager to nurture, & he can't help the surge of fraternal instinct to lift him up & away from any meager reminder of the night's events. he was only a kid. older than himself when he began the crusade at bruce's side, but a kid nonetheless. he has no real means of keeping tim away from the mission when robin moves through the waking world. he does, however, have room in his arms at present. " answered only by whirring screens in the enveloping dark, dick scoops his little brother into his arms. one hand to the nape of his neck, younger chin tucked over his shoulder, the other palm supporting.
