Just saw a very shitty article from the New York Times, and I’d like to remind everyone that Jehovah’s Witnesses are a straight up doomsday cult, they’ve falsely prophesied the end of the world almost a dozen times, they’re praying for it to happen any day now, and they have an estimated 1000 members a year die for their beliefs nowadays. Membership always spikes around disasters, and JWs are using the pandemic as proof of Armageddon and then offering comfort and lovebombing to entice new converts.

Cults specifically seek out and prey on people who are isolated and going through a major life problem or emotional upheaval. JWs aren’t knocking on doors anymore, but they’re making phone calls, sending letters, texting, handing out pamphlets. Stay safe yourself, check in on people you know, look stuff up before getting even slightly involved with any new group.
