So Aerion is absolutely someone who would refuse to use a condom and while I firmly belive Dunk would be ADAMANT about his birth control usage, things do happen and between a flash heat and hormone surge, it failed. Dunk finds out and immediately tells Aerion who immediately claims he's not the father, that he'll have nothing to do with the kid, and if Dunk were to even try he'd make sure to get custody and Dunk'll never see the kid again.
Dunk goes to the family manor to pick up the some of his things, clearly a bit of an emotional wreck as he does when Valarr asks if it was from him not being able to handle being in an open relationship anymore, which Dunk says he did not know he was in one but its not for that but thanks for letting him know so he can go to a clinic. Dunk tearfully leaves and Valarr is texting the family group chat about Aerions blatant cheating and how he accidentally informed Dunk.
Like the original everyone feels a shit ton of guilt but it bugs everyone about what truly led to them to breakup, especially as Aerion seems cagey about it. He basically forbids them from talking to Dunk, and despite the families collective shaming of Aerion for his actions, they still respect it. Until a little over a year later Maekar gets a call from Dunk.
After the breakup and the following emotional shitshow that came with it, Dunk realized he had to get his shit together. He tells Raymun, Rowan, Beony, and Daisy about his pregnancy and they waste absolutely no time in helping him out. They help set up a nursery, come to appointments, and practically move in with him. While it wasn't a harsh pregnancy, with it not even showing until the 8th month and even then could still be hidden by a large jacket, Dunk appreciated the help enough that he let them help pick our his daughters name, and given the plant theme of his companions, it was only fitting that they named her Daphne like the flower, for her purple eyes and redish blonde hair.. And so the girls can be the scooby gang for Halloween. (Dunk is also made to be Scooby and Raymun Scrappy)
The first few months are fine, everything is going well and while Dunk has a few struggles here and there, (like a fuck ton of PPD) its nothing out of the ordinary but around the time Daphne is six months old she gets sick. Really sick. She is on the mend but the doctors ask for a family medical history and Dunk's an orphan so that's no help buuut, he does know his her genetic materials family so he calls.. except Aerion has him blocked, but Maekar doesn't.
Maekar didn't know what compelled him to pick up the phone nor what made him agree to meet at his son's ex-boyfriend apartment of all things but he does. He opens the door and flinches at the smell of distressed omega but freezes at the sight of a pup. Maekar tries to remain as calm as possible as he listens to Dunk’s rant about how he would have told the family earlier but Aerion threaten him, and that the real reason they broke up was because Dunk was pregnant. That Dunk knows he shouldn't be talking to them but he really needs the families medical history.
Maekar agrees with no argument, too stunned and angry to even think of it as he looks at his first grandchild. Dunk, seeing it asks if he would like to hold her, and Maekar practically throws out his arms. Now, Maekar is a man who'd insist on a paternity test normally and while the girl has Dunks hair, the eyes, the eyes are proof enough. An almost pinkish purple that while aren't exactly like Aerions royal purple eyes from his Dayne side, but are exactly like Maekar's own. Maekar almost laughs when he hears the origin of Daphne's name, especially as that was what he and Dyanna almost named Daella for the same reason.
He is just overjoyed to have a grandchild and Dunk is so relieved Maekar both believed him and is actually smiling. Dunk even takes a few pictures which he sends to his friends group chat and Maekar himself. Eventually Maekar does leave but promises that he'll give Dunk the families full medical history by the end of the weekend and that he will be handling the Aerion situation and Dunk and Daphne will be allowed at every family event forward. Aerion won't. Dunk is elated that his kid will be getting a family that he doesn't even notice the murderous intent rolling off the new grandfather.
The moment Maekar gets into his car he is making a new family group chat and announcing he is disowning Aerion. The family is split between "Oh finally" and "WHAT DID AERION DO?, which doesn't remain unanswered for long as Maekar says he found out the real reason Aerion and Dunk broke up and why he's been so cagey about it. He then sends the pictures of him and a small baby captioned "This is Daphne, she is my grandchild".
Maekars phone overheats.
