ilove you Leon

new video out today on YouTube of my favorite crustacean, Leon the Lobster.

I downloaded a free trial of Photoshop Elements yesterday. I watched a few YouTube tutorials on how to mask images and was able to to come up with my first fully digital collage! All images (except for the image of Leon) are either in the public domain or have the Creative Commons licensure. I used wikipediacommons, openverse.org, and the Smithsonian open access for my images. I plan on bringing life back into this blog through my collages. Let’s see how it goes.

Big Bend National Park- Texas’ Gift to the Nation- Lithograph Lantern Press Original Poster / Image #96308  / Post Card / 2022

Through the hardest days of the Depression and WWII, the people and state of Texas worked together to create a National Park. From kindergartners to cattle barons, Texans contributed what they could to a fund to purchase land in one of the most remote but spectacularly scenic regions of their state. The deed to Big Bend was presented as Texas’ gift to the nation on June 6, 1944

Nuevas Ideas Rally in Houston, TX

My first attempt at dabbling with photojournalism. A Salvadoran rally in favor of the current Salvadoran president, Nayib Bukele, happened on July 10th in Bayland Park. The event was planned and executed in just one week so I was surprised to see that a decent amount of people showed up. I was unfortunately too shy to ask anyone for an actual photo, but maybe I’ll be a little braver next time. I am going to be traveling to El Salvador in September after more than a decade of not visiting. I am excited and can’t wait to go hiking and see all the wonderful nature. I will definitely be taking photos this time around.

Talking about walkable cities! The neighborhood where my Airbnb was located at in New Orleans was so cute and walkable! We walked to a thrift store that was in the neighborhood, a mediterranean restaurant, a comic book store, a grocery store, and a historic snowballs joint! I can only dream of one day living in such an accessible community.

Drove to Florida in June. I didn’t document a lot on this trip for some reason, but regardless, I am going to post the photos that I did end up taking. I got to experience a beach with an actual life guard on duty! Pretty cool, never seen one of those in Texas. The waves were pretty strong which made me feel like a rag doll being tossed around. I stayed by the shore the entire time for fear of being taken by the ocean. It had also rained earlier that day so I think that’s why there were a lot of seaweed present. Anyway, it was a good day and I enjoyed my time here.
