The indestructible Spectrum captain who has already defeated two Tracys, cannot be worn out, cannot be kept down, and is now one victory away from turning this entire tournament into a personal collection.

And as someone who fairly frequently has to witness the situations Scarlet often faces, I can assure you that "emotional damage" is not as sexy as it may sound. It's very real, very raw. The jawline comments, however, are something I can't dispute with.

Greetings Captain,

This question is a bit heavy. How to you cope with Captain Scarlet's indestructibility up close? You're often the one on hand to deal with spectators and aftermath. Does it wear on you?

"Well..."

He coughs lightly, clearing his throat of the lump that has suddenly developed. Heavy seems like an understatement.

What he should say is that it's part of his job, that he doesn't think about it at all, that it doesn't bother him because he believes in Paul and never has to worry about any of it. But that just isn't true.

He does think about it. All the time. He does have faith in Paul, but that doesn't negate his worry. Doesn't get rid of the nightmares.

Does it wear on him? Absolutely. But he can't admit that. Admitting that, saying it aloud, would mean he'd have to admit it to himself. And if he did that, he feared what that would mean. Would he look at his friend differently? Would he be more anxious for him?

Would he become a less efficient partner?

There was no room for second-guessing in their line of work. The job was the job, and you got it done. There was a reason Spectrum only hired the best of the best; it wasn't for the faint-hearted.

"Access to therapy has been a valuable asset when it comes to coming to terms with the sheer absurdity of the situation. It helps me, uh... process whatever it is that I witness. I won't lie and say seeing your best friend die in a whole manners of horrific ways is easy. It isn't." Blue says it all so matter-of-factly. It's the only way he can say it.

"But I trust Captain Scarlet. I trust that man with my life. And he trusts me, not only on a mission but with what happens after that. He trusts all of us. It's our duty, not only as his fellow officers but as his friends, to take care of him, of his body.

"And, no matter the toll that takes, I will always be there for him when I can. All the other bits—the worry, the panic, the grief—don't matter in the moment. It's secondary."

You don't have that kind of oversight. I'm simply being a good friend and patching that gap.

Nine times out of ten, that radio is being used. The only time it isn’t is purely down to technical issues or if I’m on a different mission. If the tables were turned, Scarlet would do the exact same thing.
