speaking as an armand de doctor frankenstein enthusiast, i feel like the louis & armand finale scene could have been So much better if only armand had simply taken louis captive (instead of decapitating him) and tortured a beheaded lestat in front of him instead. because the two main black characters being the ONLY ones who are brutalized onscreen sure is A Choice (its racist. the choice is racist). but as much as it would have been nice to have armand and louis have a talk on equal footing, I do think it is in character for armand to not want to have that conversation with louis in ANY scenario except in one where he has all of the power (especially after being humiliated by lestat and daniel in his attempts to apologize to them). so armand torturing a beheaded lestat in front of louis instead has the obvious benefit of making the scene less racist, while also giving armand power over both of them in the scenario, and also: (a) forcing lestat to finally confront the armand-shaped elephant in his own narrative (b) setting up a scene where armand and lestat are forced to reflect on the similarities between their sexual-abuse related traumas, thereby making it a scene where all three of them are faced with the fact that theyve used each other's sexual abuse trauma as a means to hurt the other (c) furthering loustat's relationship development by setting up both an inversion of the s2e7 trial where louis has the (limited) power to save lestat AND a parallel to the s2e7 magnus' tower scene only THIS time louis admits lestat is the love of his life right in front of lestat (d) NOT making regina's torture be a part of the scene, thereby getting rid of the out-of-the-blue, overly-contrived, and out of character "armand set up the whole regina situation to manipulate louis" plot point and also again making the scene less racist. like we could have had it all. alas they decided to be racist instead

i feel like the situation is that the anti-blackness in that scene makes it so hard to see other things, not bc Armand's life isn't as important, but because the show has been leaving a sour taste in our mouth regarding Louis' treatment even before 3x7. yes it is important to acknowledge how Armand felt during all those years but it's not like it hasn't (now) been confirmed that he in fact did do a bunch of things to Louis until s2's ending, in some way or another. bc if it's to make Louis acknowledge how he spend 77 years in a relationship with Armand just to piss off Lestat, without any regard for the fact that he didn't love Armand and in fact was very much apathetic to him, you didn't need to write down like somehow he's at fault for how he was kidnapped and violated when he was 12.

because in my mind it contradicts the entirety of s1, where Louis spends years listening from his family and ppl in town the reprimands on the fact that he was using ppl's bodies for profit and the fact that he very much acknowledges and had processed that. you're telling me that Louis and Armand wouldn't be able to talk about that, given how Louis had gone through this part of his life before? given how Armand opened up to him ab his life while they were still in Paris, and Louis told so to Daniel? given how Daniel was constantly pocking and making Louis face several things throughout s1-s2? they had to do it with his head chopped off his body, unable to speak, with Regina on knife-point?

and then it also murks the waters regarding Armand's actual motivations and how he, time and time again, is being let down, abandoned and made it feel like nothing throughout his life. that line got me because it brings up Armand's deepest trauma in a scene that it's already violent, but also positing it like it's Louis' role to apologize for that, in a show where we've been very much uncomfortable with how they treat the PoC, and the same thing isn't brought up to Lestat, given Armand was also treated poorly by him. in an episode where we see the black man's head off his body but the same treatment isn't given to the white guy.

like, that whole scene was a lot but this exchange got me very uncomfortable. especially with how LITTLE we saw Armand throughout this season. this is the treatment you give him? this is the level of "closure" you're able to provide to him on this matter? from Louis?? not from other people? not also tormenting Lestat in the process?
