What if Jayce went back to fight Viktor not necessarily to save Piltover, but to save Viktor from eternal solitude which he saw was going to happen if Viktor were to succeed...?

Jayce saw that Viktor stayed by him even after he perished, so he went back, chose to perish together with Viktor rather than either one of them surviving to live on without the other.
