I’m sure you will all forgive my lack of internet presence. My Airbnb decided I could not stay for the amount of time I previously requested and thus I’ve been in and out of Lima’s “best” hotels for the last couple of days sorting out accommodation. Unfortunately, my standards and Lima’s standards seem to clash heavily - no surprises there. Now, I would ask you all what I’ve missed in the mean time, but I’m sure that this slow moving town has churned up no news. Feel free to try and surprise me with that one, however.

Okay, so maybe Kitty had read one too many Nancy Drew novels when she was younger, because she was full-on interrogating someone in a hospital when another man laid in a bed. It all felt like it should be on some sort of soap opera, but she had no time to dwell on the overall melodramatic atmosphere. Not when Jake Whatever was in front of her and trying to lie his way out of a conversation that could have dire consequences. Maybe she had read too many mystery novels, but that just meant that Kitty could smell a rat when there was one and the man in front of her was reeking of a higher love of cheese than what could be considered human. Before she could think of her next question, though, he was already dropping truth bombs on her that she could have never really predicted to be true – even if the thought had crossed her mind for a quick moment or two since she walked in on him in Puck’s room. They were…brothers? Kitty’s eyes widened and she looked around to make sure that no one could hear them as Jake went on to explain. “I…” Could she keep his secret? With a gulp (the lump in her throat proving to be almost too big to keep down for long), she nodded and dropped her eyes down to a spot on the wall behind him. “He’s… Yeah. Yes.” There was a silence and then her eyes were back on him, sharp as knives, “But for your information, that man in there is more than worth it. Stop wondering and start getting to it, because as you can see you might not have had the time that you have now.” She crossed her arms over her chest and went to move past Jake, only stopping for another second to toss over her shoulder, “He deserves to know.”

Jake could only stand completely silent and still as he searched her features for any sort of indication of what she was going to do. Could she even keep quiet? Or would, by the time he made it back to his tiny apartment, the entire town know about him and his little secret. It wasn’t a surprise that her gaze was as unforgiving and cold as it was when he first spotted her, giving him absolutely no indication of her intentions. Basically he was screwed and pretty much needed to plan on going home and packing his bags to hit the road again. What a bust.

Letting out a heavy sigh, Jake shook his head at the blonde. “It’s not that simple.” Jake quietly seethed, trying not to sound too harsh. Did he wish it was simple and easier than this? Absolutely. But he knew that there as no way he could just walk into a room with him and spill his secret. Something like this required a little more tact than that? Then there was the fear that Puck would turn out to be too much like his father and Jake couldn’t risk that. He just needed to feel out Puck a little more before saying anything. That was always Jake’s plan and he wasn’t going to let one person finding out change that. It was the only way that he could protect himself and his mom. This accident just slowed down the process was all. Or so he told himself.

“Look Kitty, he will know. I just have to wait for the right time. So just keep your mouth shut okay? He needs to recover from this before he even thinks about processing having a family he didn’t know about. It’s what’s best for everyone, okay?”

I love the open road as much as the next turmoiled gay but it’s somewhat less charming when you’re late to work and you’re driving the same route you do every day. I’m definitely envious of that nomad lifestyle that you and Madison have, even if I’m still perplexed as to why you guys settled here.

I’m struggling to comprehend how anyone in this town manager to get their driver’s license. Really, I’ve seen some stupid things come through my dad’s garage whenever I used to help out, but I’m amazed. I just had someone in front of me stop at a green light on an entirely empty road. Just the two of us. And they stopped. They were really fucking lucky I wasn’t jamming out to the Les Mis soundtrack, otherwise I would have rear ended them. I’m honestly just looking forward to leaving this place and moving to New York where I won’t have to drive at all.

But driving is so relaxing, especially when you’re on the open road. Sometimes you have to just stop and take it all in.

Okay, so, I’m super bummed that summer is over but fall is also my shit, so like, I’m also really psyched. It’s conflicting. Anyway, does Lima have any cool places for pumpkin picking and hayrides? Haunted houses? I need a little something festive to help keep morale up before the awful that is winter kicks in.

Guess I can finally announce this now.  I interviewed at Mask-A-Raid, and yeah, I hate the name too. But I got the job. It’s only temporary because a Halloween store can’t stay open forever, but I’m employed until November 1st. How awesome is that? Check me out. It’s within walking distance of the PW, so come visit me, guys. I’ll also still be working part-time at the garage too, so come visit me there, especially if your car breaks down. It’s nice to be employed again, especially since my rent is due super soon.

It was a big enough to get herself to the hospital with enough courage to find her way to Puckerman’s room, but now Kitty had to deal with some sort of mystery that became more confusing with each second she tried to process it. The two were out in the hallway, but nervous green eyes kept flickering from the man in front of her and back to the one who laid on the bed as Jake tried to offer some sort of half-assed explanation. “I know exactly how ridiculous that sounds because it’s not at all what I said.” She moved her fingers to pinch at the bridge of her nose and tried again, “You haven’t even begun to see my third degree, Fuel Boy.”

Kitty fixed her eyes on him and zeroed in on every twitch that could come from any expression, her words sharp and short, “What I’m looking at right now is a kid who flew in from nowhere with some crazy girl and neither of them have really offered any sort of orientation as to what the Hell they’re doing in Ohio and a damn Piggly Wiggly when they could be at freakin’ Cedar Point, or something.” She didn’t paused as her words got a little quieter, “Two people who arrived just in time to see the PW go down in some sort of flames where the man in there saved my life by risking his own. So, you better own up to whatever the Hell you know about him that you’re trying to cover up or so help me, Lord, I will make sure there’s something – or should I say someone – that I have to cover up.”

Jake tensed up even further as the small blonde in front of him began to throw more accusations at him. It was something he never took well; that and when people were talking trash about his family. All hell would break loose then. After taking a few silent breaths, he unclenched his fists in an attempt to relax. He wasn’t going to do anything to Kitty and he couldn’t risk reverting back to his old ways. Even still, he could feel his blood boiling and no matter what happened, it wasn’t going to end well for him.

“I don’t know anything about him!” He eventually said sternly, cowering slightly when he felt eyes from just about everyone around them on him. Sighing, Jake shrunk even more as he leaned in closer to the girl and spoke softer. “That’s the point Kitty. I don’t know anything about him and that’s why I’m here. He’s my brother, or my half-brother. That’s why we’re here. I wanted to see if it was even worth getting to know that part of my family after years and years of wondering, okay?” He confessed, completely defeated by her insistence. Though Jake had to admit that it was nice to get it off his chest and tell someone other than his mom and his best friend. Now he could only hope that Kitty would keep it a secret until he was ready which honestly he wasn’t entirely expecting. “Listen, you can’t say anything to anyone okay? Especially not Puck.”

Before she could even think about apologizing for her harsh tone, Jake was off again and it just made her eyes and tongue sharper. She narrowed her glare further and made a mental note to say a prayer later for him after she was done throwing him over some sort of bridge for talking back at her that way. He closed the distance between them and she knew that they had to lower their voices, but that didn’t mean that she had to lower her attitude. “Well, excuse me for not thinking you to be the hospital fairy visitor kind of guy. I must have missed your bedside manner capabilities while you were out there pumping gas for bum knees and the idiots who don’t know that their gas can is on the other side.” She brushed by him to get a closer look at Puck, but made sure to still stay far enough away that she didn’t feel bad about talking in the room. Seeing that he was still sound asleep, Kitty was about to whirl back around and address Jake Whatever-His-Name-Was when she heard a knock at the door. “‘Mr. Puckerman’?” The woman had asked. Kitty would have stepped aside and let her see the man in the bed herself, but then Jake answered for her. Her brow furrowed in confusion, questioning on why Jake would answer for Puck, but the look on his face told her that that wasn’t exactly the case. And another look made her think about how she didn’t know what the Whatever-His-Name-Was part was in Jake’s life. The nurse entered the room and started to check Puck’s vitals while Kitty locked eyes with Jake and in an instant was dragging him out of the room. “That was a pretty quick recall for someone who only knows him in the store, Jake,” she spat once they were a safe distance away.

Before Jake knew anything, he was being grabbed by the smaller girl and dragged out of the hospital room. “Ow, ow, ow, ow!!” He exclaimed, pulling his arm away from her tight grip as soon as they were out of Puck’s room. For a tiny little girl, he had to admit that he was slightly impressed by her strength. Not that he would ever admit that to her, of course. As soon as she threw an accusation at him like that, Jake tried not to shut completely down or freeze up enough to get something a little more specific in her eyes. Kicking at the ground, he rubbed he back of his neck before giving an attempted nonchalant shrug.

Narrowing his eyes, Jake kept his lips pressed in a tight line while he tried to think of a thorough explanation. Every little word he said was crucial if he wanted to keep his secret safe for a little while longer so he had to tread very carefully. “Oh, so because I’m new to your little gang I’m not allowed to know anyone’s last name. Do you know how freaking ridiculous that sounds? Cause it sounds insane. Calm down and don’t look into something that isn’t there, alright? Now can I go or are you gonna stick around and give me the third degree?”
