Why did Gon not care about Killua being an assassin?
I want to talk about this post on the HxH subreddit, but more specifically, about the line that I highlighted in the pic above. Because it's actually not true.
Now, I do agree with the bigger point of the post that Gon isn't this perfect being that has done no wrong or has no flaws. However, just because I won't admit that Gon is a hypocrite (because I don't think he is). Or that I won't agree that Gon is selfish (because he isn't). It doesn't mean I infantilize him because I do recognize his flaws and mistakes. He is stubborn to a fault and is reckless to a point where it sometimes can harm others even if he doesn’t realize it. And I believe one of his biggest flaws is actually his toxic positivity. That's not to say that some people do infantilize Gon and think he's never made any mistake because those people probably do exist, but it is not the majority of Gon fans.
Anyways, first, I want to acknowledge the people who say that Gon has never cared about Killua being an assassin. It's not that Gon is a hypocrite or that he doesn't care about Killua murdering. It's simply because he understands Killua. Instead of blaming the 11 year old boy, Gon blames his family, the family who forced him to be a killer.
Side note, when Killua did talk about killing in Greed Island, Gon got upset.
First of all, I think Gon has amazing intuition. When Killua compared himself to Hisoka, Gon didn't seem to fully believe him. It's like he had a feeling deep down that Killua wasn't this heartless killer that he's painting himself to be.
And I think this is why Gon was so quick to understand and accept it when Killua reveals his background to him.
We see that Gon isn't necessarily unfazed by this information. He looks a bit uncomfortable being told this, but he still understands the situation. He's smart enough to pick up that Killua didn't choose this lifestyle and that he's actively trying to escape from it. He knows that Killua was a product of his environment, so he's not judgmental about it.
Okay, back to the post from the very beginning.
The highlighted line is what I really wanted to talk about. They claim that Gon was only mad because Illumi was forcing Killua to do things against his will, not the fact that Killua was a killer itself. But that is simply untrue. It was actually specifically because he made him a killer. That's why he was so angry at Illumi. But no, apparently, I infantilize Gon.🙄
This is one of the reasons why Killua loves and grew so attached to Gon. He was the first one to truly understand him and looked beyond him being an assassin. And, of course, because Gon wanted to become his friend regardless.
Btw I have such a love/hate relationship with Reddit, so when I see terrible takes I gonna bitch about it here if that's okay. I have a lot of screenshots from that subreddit that I just need to let out my thoughts out after reading them.
