What happened?

SOMEONE did something that he knew no one would approve of.

There's a knock on the door, five quick raps.

Dai jumps a little at the knocking, who could it be at this hour? "Hm? Come in?"

As the door creaks open, the coppery smell of blood comes in with whoever the visitors are.

Outside stand Robyn and Evan, the latter poised and clean, and the former covered in blood. Robyn is panting.

"So sorry to do this to you." Robyn begins, panting and looking back behind her before forward again at the occupant— woah, snazzy place. Now she feels a little guilty for barging in— focus.

"We may have....gotten into an altercation. Do you mind if we just slip in here real quick?" Robyn asked , before hastily adding "We'll be out of you hair as soon as possible, promise!"

The unknown voice followed by the smell of blood makes him shiver. Just who- what?

Blood, the panting, "altercation"... The blind boy tries to connect dots on the scene. "We" wait. Was there someone else along with the voice? Just how many people were in his room right now?

He, completely on alert, takes his cane from besides the bed and lifts it up in a defensive way. Just how Grant taught him. "Who is there!?"

"We should have just knocked him out." Evan mutters to Robyn, shutting the door behind him as he uses a foot to propel himself forward and close enough to disarm the other, if he wanted to.

From behind, Robyn makes an aborted sound, chasing after her friend and trying to pull him away.

"Sorry, sorry! Look— there's just us two right now, and all we need to do is hide here, five, ten minutes, and we'll be out of your hair. I swear."

Robyn tries to put her hand out to shake. "I'm Robyn, and this is Evan. We aren't going to hurt you. Right?" It's clear who the last sentence is directed to, and He slowly shifts out of position, taking an audible but padded step back away from the blind body.

Dai doesnt believe her, not at all, but he puts down his cane nonetheless. He just sits a little back on his bed, for... Safety reasons. His friend didnt sound so sure on the "not hurting him" part.

He speaks carefully "So... What happened to you...two? Are you hurt?"

She sighs in relief, a soft thank you falling from her lips before she sits down, weary from the running.

"No, not hurt, just...." She sighs again, before tensing as the sound of footsteps rush past outside.

Robyn turns to glare at Evan, who petulantly crosses his arms. "Someone decided to do something we both knew his parents wouldn't agree with."

Evan glares back, before responding. "Firstly, not my parents. Second, Fae Artem and Far Beau would have understood. Orders are priority; they would have wanted it."

He was going to ask more, but the mention of his boss and their spouse took him by surprise

"Wait, Beau and Artem? You know them?" He crosses his arms, letting himself relax on the bed a bit more "What do they have to do with anything? His parents?" Was one of them one of the bosses children and he didnt know about it?

The two look at each other, and back at the blind boy, before speaking in simultaneity; "You know them?"

Evan appraises the boy with a new look, his comportment shifting to a more respectful but defensive one. Robyn, on the other hand, seems shocked.

"How many-?" She mutters, before speaking louder. "Yeah, I'm their daughter's girlfriend, and their son's babysitter. Kind of."

He looks over at Robyn sharply. "Not my parents. I am of The Mother."

Robyn looks away at that, clearly a sore spot for the two. She looks back at the stranger after a moment. "Who are you, then? How do you know the Sweet Family?"

Dai, while letting most of the chat pass, apparently connects some dots "Their daughters girlfriend...?" He clicks his fingers in understanding, then points to where the voice was coming from "Youre Jonnas girlfriend!... right?" He never knew her personally, but heard a lot of her and how much she talked about... Robyn? Was that the girls name?

He points to himself at the question "Me?"

"I- um, Im Beaus lab assistant. Theyre my boss" Although they sometimes treat me like their child. "Well, I was their lab assistant until..." He gestures at his eyes, or the lack of them, therefore. He smiles timidly "now Im just kinda some parasyte living here"

Robyn nods, before realizing and giving an auditory confirmation to the first question. She frowns at the idea of a parasite.

"Well, no, I don't think you are—"

"He doesn't work. Not a parasite, but not controbuting either." Evan cuts in, to Robyn's grief.

"But," He continues. "There is still hope in you. Have you heard of The Mother?"

Robyn clamps a hand over his mouth, much to Evan's annoyance. "DON'T! Don't...listen..to him. He doesn't know what he's talking about."

He removes her hand, brushing himself off and scowling.

"What..." His intrigue grows bigger "Whats this Mother yall keep talking about?"

His eyes glaze over a little in reverence, but there's a hint of...sorrow? Anger? Whatever it is, he smiles before he speaks.

"The Mother, The Rebirth. She who finds and gives new life, and shelters them." He blinks, before looking at Dai. "She could give you new eyes, you know."

Robyn grumbles, crossing her arms. "Yeah, for the price of your soul and fifteen thousand cosmetic alterations.

Based on how the two act, this seems like something theyve argued about before.

"That sounds... Kinda sketchy, not gonna lie."

It sounded like some kind of weird cult leader bullshit, he didnt like that. New eyes? Pfft, he has gone through body modifications again and again, he aint doing that not once more.

"Wait, you said none of you were injured." He gives a pause "...why does it smell like blood then?"

Robyn breathes a sigh of relief, letting out a small laugh at his words.

At the mention of blood, the two children tense up. They look at each other, before having a small hushed argument, and Robyn turns back.

"Well it's....not.....our blood?"

"I killed a man."

Evan's statement leads the two to whisper-bicker yet again.

As the door closes, Robyn whirls around at Artem, distress etched along every feature of her face. "What the hell happened!?" She whisper-shouted, gesturing at Evan's door. "I hear you guys find him, and I go to talk to him and he's- he's all on about this 'Mother' and how he needs to return to her- he's obsessed! What happened to him? He barely even registers his own name, much less mine, or Beau's, or yours-"

“… a lot happened… he was sold by his biofamily to a magical being of currently unknown strength… she took the parts of his name still held by them.. and he had both memory manipulation and emotional manipulation spells cast upon him… I was able to break through all the emotional manipulation spells but she reacted by harshly punishing him so I haven’t been able to break the memory manipulation… “

She tugs her hair in distress, making an annoyed sound. "She fucked with his soul too- and do you see how he looks?? The fucking scar- he acts like he's supposed to be a doll to be positioned! I brought him one of his favorite cookies and he waited until I said he could eat it!"

Robyn paces back and forth, before stopping and looking at Artem. "How can we stop Her?"

“Since it’s not a physical taglock tie him to here the first step would be identifying what she is… magical beings tend to have weaknesses, and those weaknesses tend to be the best recorded piece of info on most of the dangerous beings... I have a board on the matter but we have so little actual information on her it’s difficult to narrow it down”

"Fae, maybe? I can figure it out if I got to see her, I'm sure..." She pauses, thinking.

“Maybe… and I strongly advise against seeking her out unless you wear some magical protection jewelry yourself and bring myself, Beau, or someone else well versed in magic negotiations and contracts to that search…. one of the few facts we know about her is she takes children and it’s not uncommon for magical beings to sense when they’re spotted by mortal eyes…searching alone would be incredibly reckless. Youd be safer walking into a lions den….“

He steps out, quickly flicking off the light as Evan opens the door. He looks up at Artem, a little awkwardly.

They’re a little curious what he’s hiding but decide to let him keep his secrets for now

“I have that enchanted jewelry for you, do you have time to go over what each one does..?”

He looks behind him. There's the clatter of...something falling on the ground and the shuffling of definitely another person before he turns back and nods, stepping back to allow Artem inside.

Artem startles slightly at the sound, not expecting Evan to be hiding a person but Evan is aware of them and seems unbothered, and they trust their wards.

So they enter the room and turn the light on, curious who else could be there

Whoever is hiding is hiding well, but it's still obvious someone else was in the room. The usual tidy- if not bland room setup almost highlighted the messy table, a chair askew.

If not for that, the fact that Evan's old items- his clothes, journal, and even some fear canisters lying around made it evidence enough that he had a visitor, and there was only one person who would've known and kept all of this: Robyn

“…. Robyn you dont have to hide you know…”

They give the kid a moment to see if she’ll leave her hiding space

There's the sound of shuffling, and Robyn extracts herself from under the bed, dusting off and looking a little embarrassed.

She looks over at Evan, and back at Artem, a little mistrust gracing her features.

“Would you like her here for explanations of the enchantments?”

Their attention is on their son as they ask this. Theyre a little disappointed that Robyn still seems to distrust them since they met before- shes their sons friend and their daughters girlfriend after all- but her opinion is her own and she’s not being rude or anything so they’ll let that go for now.

He turns to look at Robyn, before back at Artem, shrugging a little. He didn't mind, and for some reason the two... what are they? fae? he settles on calling them his (parents) captors. The two always asked for his opinion. It was weird.

Artem accept the shrug and hands Evan the first box. It contains a ring.

“The first enchantment is the bubble shield ring. It’s kind of the base for a lot of the protections. It creates a magical shield around you about three feet out and only what you allow to enter can enter the shielding. I based it off of how cell walls work, so you would be the nucleus in that metaphor choosing what enters the membrane”

"Does that work for mental spells and stuff too?" Robyn stands a little closer to Evan, feeling a little more protective over him. Maybe she didn't trust Artem, but they were technically the parent of the two people she cared about most, and if it meant Evan wouldn't be hurt again she could work with them.

The speaker crackles to life "uhm hello? Sorry im in the middle of a sensitive test, otherwise I'd be down there alredy" there's a fizzing sound "oh fuck" and then a bang and a tinkleing of glass.

"...welp thats handled ...uhm whats up?"

She rocks on the balls of her heals, stuffing her hands into her pockets. It was easy to act intimidating and all online but now that she's here...

"Can I..come in?"

She felt terrified .
