Dai lived his childhood with only his mother, who was neglectful and mentally abusive
He (6) then meets Gabriel (13) and Isabel (5) at a park on ones of her mothers "escapisms". Gabriel offers him a place to stay and have company while his mother is not around. He starts living with them more than in his own household, thus why he starts calling them "his siblings". Gabriel teaches him all that he knows about basic chores like cleaning, cooking, personal higiene, etc. Dai and Isabel become inseparable, always joking about being real siblings despite being blood unrelated.
Tw csa mentions Around his 9 birthday, Gabriel becomes... Controlling. He controls over who Dai talks to and how many times a day he isnt with them, almost like holding him hostage. Once, he offers him to do something for him as an "exchange" for all these years help, telling him that "thats what siblings are for" and that "its just a little game". This turns into a routine and less of an exchange and more of a requirement, lasting for about the next 9 years. Dai, through all this time feels obligued to be by his side and do all he wishes, making him kind of his servant.
Gabriel and Isabel move out to Gotham years later, taking Dai with them. His mother, although not knowing where his son is, doesnt seem to care as for today.
Around his 18 birthday, Gabriel abandons them and takes all their money. Thanks to this and while looking for a place to stay + enough money to raise Isabel, he meets the Sweet family, gaining a home and a job.
He meets Grant on the street, who he considers his little brother
Tw sa mention Gabriel finds about him and isnt happy, spending months threatening him to come back to him and do his job, what Dai tried to ignore. Finally, Gabriel finds him and abducts him for a period of time, gouging his eyes out and ripping off his wings on the proccess. He and his friends do... Things, to him. They film it all. Grant, Artem and Beau find him on a van, sightless and wingless, demacrated.
Isabel, after finding about all of this, doesnt understand the situation and blames Dai for his actions, refusing to ever talk with him again
