Suffering is a Yield Sign
Think of Suffering as a yield sign. When it comes, you acknowledge it. It doesn’t immediately stop you or hold you back. Most times, you notice it, and can continue on your way. It isn’t like a stop sign, red light, or stopping at a Railroad track. Those are examples of how suffering can be if you let it attach to you. If you hold onto it, roll around in it, attach to it. But with mindfulness you can learn to not attach to the things that cause internal suffering - anger, resentment, greed, jealousy, disturbing thoughts. Those will only stop you when you let them grab you. Think of them as a yield sign - definitely something to be noticed, but doesn’t have to hinder your path or change your directory.
Maybe, you have to stop for the yield sign. those are the moments in life where suffering is inevitable. That’s grief for losing a loved one. That’s physical pain after a car accident. That’s dissappointment from losing your job. But still, none of these are permanent. They require a slight stop. But they only will invoke sitting at a red light if you allow them.
