First completed scenes for my animatic centered around the kleptomaniac Taako
Has anyone else realized this is the first panel where all but one of them are in the same scene?
what i loved abt taz balance is when the guys took a shine to several npcs and i could tangibly feel happy vibes from griffin abt that. like especially when griffin introduced lup and told justin he doesn’t want to force her into justin’s roleplaying but justin was p much like “no i love her!!!” and went out of his way to include her in taako’s scenes during stolen century. also when npcs like angus and kravitz just so naturally became part of taako’s character development. also travis doing the whole arc with magnus and fisher which was made of yes, also clint scoffing “that’s not john” two times during the final battle, and like 10 other examples now that i think of it
things that Clint McElroy has personally, semi-canonically done across the various TAZ universes:
worked as a janitor in Tesseralia
been fired from said janitorial job and arrested for embezzlement
somehow made his way into the plane of existence in which Amnesty is set
been frozen in a block of ice
fathered a child that can transform into a car after drinking enough of a Surge/gasoline cocktail
Not much of a punchline here but just general dread at [Today’s] Davenport’s design aesthetics.
[Image description start! A monochromatic five paneled comic, featuring Davenport, a mustached gnome, and Taako, a chubby elf. The first panel is a close up of Davenport’s hand holding the graphic novel’s design of the Oculus, a spiked monocle. Taako asks, “That’s it?” Davenport replies, “I’m calling it the Oculus.” In the second panel, Davenport and Taako stare down at it as Dav continues to explain, “Able to grant its wearer hte power to make any illusion into reality.” Taako replies, “Huh.” to which Davenport responds with a “Yeah.” Third panel gets closer as Davenport expresses, “WE’re really going through with this aren-” but Taako cuts him off with a “HOLD UP” and wide-eyed expression. Panl four, Taako looks a bit frantic as he waves his arms around. “HEY CAP’N DOESN’T THAT- Doesn’t that sound like a really bad idea?” Davenport starts, confused, “The Relic Plan? I-” Taako cuts him off again, “Nah, nah I mena the fantasy 3D anything printer?? Does that bad boy have, like, a safety or something??” In the last panel, Davenport holds the sharp monocle up to his eye and explains, “Yes actually. It has spikes so you can’t wear it without stabbing your-” Taako cuts him off (again) with a screeching, “THAT MAKES IT WORSE, DAVENPORT WHAT THE F-” End description ]
when they were younger lup convinced taako that people eat raw fettuccine at the fantasy olive garden and then, a century and a half later, while out to dinner with her coworkers, she convinced kravitz of the exact same thing. and now whenever they go out on dates, they just, cronch cronch cronch together, blissfully unaware, thinking that this is a perfectly normal and socially acceptable thing to do. taako thinks people are staring because he’s famous and his boyfriend is hot. and he’s right. but also,
@ungarmax they all go out on a double date together and kravitz very earnestly offers barry some of his own uncooked pasta and for one long moment all barry can do is stare. like, bud. kravitz, hey. what the fuck? but then he notices lup trying not to lose her whole entire shit behind him. she and barry lock eyes. lup gives him a pleading look. i love you dearly, this look says. please don’t ruin this grift over a century in the making.
so what else can he do. barry accepts the raw fettuccine gratefully. and lup stands there. and she watches. and she tries desperately not to bust a gut as all three of her boys munch
I love that man
Todd Phillips is pure trash.
He’s not the only one like, not even remotely fucking around.
with the voidfishinator, i can erase the memories of everyone in the tri-state area!

the weapons of mass destruction the two of us are going to distribute into public circulation are banal and unattractive because, unlike the rest of you chucklefucks, we roll decent Wisdom

The Quell vs The Hunger: motivation and minions
Posted with @rebelenterprise permission
It’s funny, there’s been lots of comparisons between the Hunger and the Quell, due to some degree of aesthetic similarities, but when you get right down to it their motivations are entirely different;
Both John’s aspirations of “ascendance” and the Hunger’s eventual desire to just consume everything in every conceivable reality, are different from the Quell’s search for Sylvain turning into a desire to simply raze the planet (and later Earth) of life, not out of a hunger, but pure revenge.
And they’re functionally dissimilar too; while both can take control of other entities, The Quell is also creating wholly new creatures to do its work, whereas the Hunger for the most part sends in warped parodies of the beings it’s assimilated into itself.
Edit (for the end of Amnesty, SPOILERS):
It wans’t even revenge, it was pure anger with sadness at the loss of something integral to itself. Remember that whenever you come across someone who seems angry for no reason. It could just be they haven’t found their Sylvain yet.
Also, the Quell wasn’t responsible for the bom-boms. The third party involved very much confused matters and focused the blame on something tangible, much like we do in real life. If you ever find your anger or blame focused on something and it doesn’t make sense, try to take a step back ad see if the thing you’re causing pain to is actually the problem.
