The worst excuse I’ve ever heard for gendering books is that, “What if it confuses my kid? What if they grow up gay or trans because I let them read about too many girl/boy things?”

Your son’s first crush might be the rowdiest boy in a story about boys doing “boy things”. Your daughter might want to be with the gentle seamstress who makes the magic cloak, not be her. Your tomboy might be a boy, and he might identify with the protagonist’s science-loving crush, not her. 

Your kid is your kid, and they will be who they are meant to be. Give them all the boy/girl books you want, but you can’t control how they’ll feel about them, or what they’ll take away from the story.

As a parent, you can’t iron the world flat to keep your kid from stumbling, but you can absolutely prepare them for the bumps. If they walk an unexpected path, having read more widely will only ease their way, and get them where they need to be.

Small rant/ramble

What sucks is this is what I’m posting here after not posting a while… but I just need to vent a little frustration real quick that has made me really sad. You all are well aware I’m an artist probably, at least I’d hope so by now. Despite not posting here a lot, I do post on other sites more frequently and draw a lot. It’s something I enjoy, and I would like to share with the world, but I’m not that big or well known at all. I’m well aware that if I did commissions I wouldn’t get any (that’s not the point of this though I promise, I would open them if I really wanted to try!!!). But something that has been sorta bothering me is how I have been treated when purchasing a commission.

It has always been pleasant when first purchasing it, getting excited to see my characters in the style of a different artist or through their perspective. Also don’t get me wrong, I have had a lot of pleasant experiences with artists and in getting commissions! But, it’s just a few that have been making me question and realize that you have to be careful, and I thought I have been but I guess not. We’ll start a few years back when I got a commission with my friend, we split the cost of 90$ on it. I didn’t receive it until 9 months later when I was told it would be done within a few weeks. Now I’m usually very lenient, but I will admit this did upset me quite a bit.

This experience I’m having now though is probably the most aggravating to me. Now I love the artist and her style and such, but I payed around 30$ for a commission in January with this same promise of it getting done soon, and it’s now June nearing July. Again, I’m very lenient and understanding being an artist myself, and I’d usually be fine with it just because this is usually how it goes for commissions. I think it’s just what bothers me is seeing on my feed of when it’s full of being booked for other cons and much more when I’ve been told how stressful life is and being unable to handle what I’ve paid for. So, I guess I’m just confused and don’t know what to do. I of course want her to be okay and desires and not push herself, because I will always care for those around me no matter what. But it also just kinda irks me having the same thing happen again where I’m stuck with the possibility of never getting what I paid for, no updates or anything.

Anyway, I hope this isn’t too harsh or insensitive. I just thought I’d leave this here because why not. Please let me know if any of you have any suggestions or tips for me. Thank you and I love you all. ❤️

Hey tumblr friends

So, on Instagram liking is fine, but on tumblr and Twitter liking…doesn’t do shit. If I get 300 likes and no reblogs then the only people who see it are those 300 people and it stops there. If y’all don’t reblog art then it doesn’t spread ergo no new followers ergo no commissions etc.

Imagine speaking to a crowd of 10 people in a room and they all clap because they like what you said. Well if they don’t share with other people after hey leave about what they heard then how does anyone know what the speaker was talking about other than those 10 people?

Liking is nice. It lets /me/ know you like it but it really helps me out if y’all reblog my art if you like it. Plus I really go through and check all the tags in the reblogs
