Black Friday grabs! 🥰✨
EVERY COST CUTTING MEASURE I TOOK TO MAKE AFFORDABLE, SAFE $24 DILDOS (and why I don’t do black friday sales)
So I’ve ended up with a lot of new followers on my assorted socials this year which means there are a lot of new people who don’t know I don’t do black friday sales! intead I make affordable ($24!!!) dildos all year round, because I think poor people should be able to afford fun, safe toys whenever they have hte cashe to spare, not just during Designated Consumerism Days when money is already tight. So, I’m reposting an updated old thread on NoFrillDos, titled EVERY COST CUTTING MEASURE I TOOK TO MAKE AFFORDABLE, SAFE DILDOS (a thread and guide)
When I first started making silicone toys, before I even launched Funkit, I realized quickly how expensive they’d have to be for me to even cover my costs (I was under no illusions that I would make a profit then), and wanted to make something more affordable.
I didn’t want to be Yet Another Luxury Toymaker, because poor people deserve safe toys too. So, I worked and learned as I did so. THING 1: NoFrillDos are very, very simple. Spending a lot of time on design means that it costs more to cover that labor.
THING 2: NoFrillDos are designed to be easy to make. Pour the silicone into the mold, pull the silicone out. No soap and water, no mold release agents. this leads into
THING 3: Because I don’t have to wait for molds to dry, I can pour the next NoFrillDos immediately. Fast turnaround means I can make more dildos in the same time. Which leads to
THING 4: NoFrillDos, unlike my other toys, can be effectively mass produced by hand. No 100,000 dollar machines, no employees, just me, a vacuum chamber, and a couple dozen dildos an hour, if I feel up to it. Which leads into
THING 5: NoFrillDos are made of a less expensive, fast curing silicone. This one does sound less safe, but I don’t believe it is less safe, and here’s why: They’re certified to the same safety standards as the silicones everyone else uses.
THING 6: NoFrillDos are made at the minimum markup I can sell them for and still cover my costs. At wholesale price, I make maybe, MAYBE, twenty bucks an hour for pouring, trimming, washing, and packaging NoFrillDos. And the Dildo Bake Sales I do with them are even worse. The labor is very physically intensive, and the money is not worth it if they aren’t fulfilling their purpose, which is
THING 7: To make safe alternatives to jelly toys for those who otherwise couldn’t afford better, to give stores a less of an upsell for people who might otherwise buy an unsafe option, and to convince bigger companies that it can be done, so I don’t have to do it alone.
I could sell NoFrillDos for 3x the price and make a lot more money, but that’s not the point for me. That’s why I make so many ways for people to get them cheaper, why I so often donate huge chunks of the proceeds from sales. I can make money off richer people for fancier toys.
If you haven’t bought a NoFrillDo, I hope you’ll consider it, and if you can afford a fancier dildo, as always, I hope you’ll spend your money on a fancier toy! While not a cost concern, another reason the NoFrillDos are simple is I Don’t Want To Devalue Nicer Dildos.
People who put the effort into making a cool, interesting dildo should be able to have that effort compensated fairly, and NoFrillDos are designed not to undercut them, as well.
Go forth and enjoy a safe dildo (or two) without breaking the bank - any day of the year.
These pastel sunsets are just downright heavenly 🥺💙
