Gabriel stared at her, trying to take in as much of her features as he could. He just couldn’t get enough of her and he was honestly afraid that if he looked away, she’d be gone again. So, he didn’t take his eyes off of her. He let his hand rest against her face, his thumb gently running along the mask she wore. Gabriel wished he could just take her away from all of this, remind her that things didn’t have to be this way, but he knew it couldn’t happen. Not without her making the first move. He could take her out of this environment as much as he wanted, but if she wasn’t ready to leave, or couldn’t leave, he knew she would always come back.
A small laugh escaped the super soldier at her words, his eyes drifting down to look at his injured foot. “I’m sure it will be fine. Besides, it will regenerate sooner or later, it just takes time to do so.” He admitted. “It’s like your staff but slower. Don’t worry about it.” Dark brown eyes lifted to meet hers, taking in how tired she looked. Yes, he would love to just steal her away right now, but he knew it wouldn’t work.
The sound of footsteps was suddenly registering to him, causing him to let out a quiet curse. What he hadn’t expected was for Angela to get between him and the soldier, taking the bullet for him. “Angela!” He cried, taking in her new injury. Suddenly, red was filling his vision as he sat up, one arm holding her protectively against him while the other raised, shotgun in hand as he pointed it at the Talon agent. There was no hesitation when he pulled the trigger, his brown eyes now taking on a red sheen as his lips curled back in a silent snarl. Gabriel watched as the soldier was suddenly dropping to the ground with a satisfying thud. Then, he was looking at the doctor. “I guess that’s a sign that I should leave. Don’t want you getting hurt on my behalf. Well, not again at least.” He muttered, his eyes now catching sight of her injured shoulder once more.
[ ☣ ] “I’m okay, I’m fine… it’ll heal. Damn it….” The wound still hurt either way, no matter how fast it’d heal. Even with what happened with Overwatch, where she is now with Talon, Angela couldn’t help worrying over Gabriel. Her heart still ached knowing how she ended up here in the first place, but in the end she couldn’t let further harm come to him. She didn’t even want that soldier to be hurt, but it seemed there was nothing to stop Gabriel from gunning him down in that instant. What was she supposed to do here? Her loyalty ran with Talon, they saved her life, yet she still held strong feelings for the man in front of her.
[ ☣ ] “I don’t care if I get hurt because of you, you…. you’re the one person it’s truly worth it for. Better my shoulder than your head. I know you thought you’d lost me, but…. I don’t know what I’d do if I lost you, either.” She was still alive, to a degree. If he were shot in the head just now, he wouldn’t be. The thought alone made the doctor hug him, as tightly as her newfound injury would allow. Her chin rested upon his shoulder, ensuring she didn’t peck him with the mask’s beak in the process. If listened to closely enough, it could be noted she was crying again, letting off short, hushed sobs.
[ ☣ ] “I’m afraid I won’t see you again….. or worse. I thought I could do this, but….. god damn it, seeing your face again… I fucking missed you, Reyes. Please, tell me this isn’t the last time I’ll see you like this. I’m so sorry things had to go this way.” All because he went on this dumb mission, all because Angela was ordered to lead these troops into it. If Doomfist had just picked someone else, if anyone but Gabriel had come to do this, things could’ve been different. He wouldn’t have been hurt, and she wouldn’t be feeling this way. Then again, maybe for the latter’s sake it was a good thing. She still had an old friend, one she never wanted to let go again.
