Some closeups/little details that I wanted to share because idk if it's even clear in the original post (yapfest incoming sorry in advance)
I like to imagine they have nail painting parties haha!
Christine I think was never really into manicures or the traditional salon experience of getting nails done because she felt it made it harder for her to use her hands (and made her nails feel heavy). She likes doing light coats of fun colors in her free time :)
Jeremy is newer to personal expression through makeup, accessorizing or nail painting, and also has a habit of picking/biting at it when anxious or bored.
Michael I think would have black "emo" nails (he started painting in sophomore year) because he doesn't care what others think and he finds it fun, and also experiments with shades of reds, purple, and maybe jewel-toned pride flags.
Also the other additions:
I gave Christine new accessories, pins and patches because despite having many layers to her outfit it just read as so bland to me (I am NOT a costume designer 😭) She needed that Christine Canigula spark! Also, as you can see, they went to an old-fashioned mall photobooth and got corny photos done! Ugh they're so weird
Jeremy with a TBS shirt because of, you know it! Joe Iconis and Will Roland! I cycled through options (AotD, Deltarune, etc) but since he's technically canonically a fan of it (Jeremy's laptop on Broadway) and it serves as a reference, I thought it'd be the best option. Chili fries, canon reference!
Michael's Orbitz was gonna be Crystal Pepsi, but I colored it incorrectly and couldn't make a clear bottle of soda for whatever reason and I think the Orbitz is more fun anyways 🤔 Plus a Pac-Man lanyard which, in my mind, is attached to his Cruiser keys which are in his pocket
The shoe choices were very fun for me (I locked in on Christine's then gave like 10% effort for Jeremy's LMAO)
Christine's are my personal favorite, iridescent and sparkly combat boots 🥹 Jeremy's are just Hello Kitty cus he's the definition of girlfailure (with love) and Michael has his iconic white hi-tops and weed socks ;)
You may have noticed the new additions to the usual girl group :)
Jenna, Chloe, and Brooke are here obvs, and itty bitty detail but I wanted it to read as though Jenna's telling a funny story or joke, not necessarily gossip, because she doesn't have to gossip in order to feel loved and accepted by the group now <3
The redhead is Gerard Canonico's Smartphone Hour character (I used 2RT ref images, i dont remember whether it's the same on Broadway). The one with black pigtails is actually my friend's yumesona (dating Brooke). I also wanted to add George Salazar's and Britton Smith's Smartphone Hour characters but couldnt figure out how to incorporate them :(

Up on the second floor I added some Easter Egg characters, including the stockboy at Payless, one of the mall sequence characters, Jared dragging Evan into Spencer's, and Annabeth, Percy and Grover who are LOST. (point and laugh)
Yes DEH and PJO were added because of the shared performers among shows (Will Roland, George Salazar) but I also love them hehe
It's not all that polished or accurate BUT it's the first background I've ever done that has this drastic of a perspective shift and this many details. It was a lot of work and a lot of fun!
• The weird lighting situation is because I imagined it in mid-to-late afternoon, with both skylights (it's THAT kinda mall) and windows shining natural light on the main three :)
• I wanted George Salazar's and Gerard Canonico's mall characters to be sitting at the front table, but it distracted from the overall focus 😭
• The first time I drew Michael, the file crashed irreparably and forced me to restart (HALFWAY THROUGH THE RENDERING PROCESS 🥲🥲). The original premise was going to be the scene where Jeremy takes the SQUIP for the first time, with dim and dramatic lighting to go with it. Christine would be in the background with Jake, and there would be no other named characters in the mall. In the end, I settled on a lighter, post-canon concept to better fit the theme (and my well-being)!
• I watched Avenue Q like four times while drawing this. Avenue Q is a hyperfixation now. Someone save me.
