Like, for example, i don’t really have object permanence. If look away from something, it might as well not exist anymore. I think bobby would do this, too, especially when he was a teacher

I have the worst memory ever when it comes to important things (ppls bdays, studying, eating, etc.,) but it’s amazing for stupid little stuff, like quotes from tv shows or character lore. I love the idea of bobby not remembering his own birthday sometimes but knowing everything there is to know about Arctic deserts or how cold it’d have to be to change a gas to liquid

#something interesting about the idea of bobby having adhd #is that because he's grown to have a powerful healing factor and constantly reforms his body on a molecular level #it' seems pretty likely that traditional medication wouldn't have much effect on him at this point #maybe hank had to whip up some Adderall Plus in his lab or something #quentin would probably try to steal it #bobby would for sure have baseball as a hyperfixation though #there have been multiple occasions where bobby talks about how he spends too much time thinking about and playing baseball #I think we've all heard the jokes about neurodivergent guys being obsessed with baseball in particular #bobby is the type of guy who could probably just become an endless fountain of baseball stats when he feels like it #and it would probably piss scott off because it proves that bobby actually can really lock in #then again scott also love baseball in canon so maybe that's their Friend Activity #i feel like it would also be one of the few ways bobby really bonded with his dad as a kid #in his solo he mentioned that when he was a kid he wanted to be a pastry chef but abandoned the dream early #presumably because baking is one of those things seen as a Gay Indicator by a lot of dads #sports is a nice neutral Dude Topic that they can sincerely enjoy together #so i can see his interest in baseball snowballing from that mindset #xmen #bobby drake

Submitter’s notes: Possibly the best fanfic I've ever read. Written in 1999. Conveyed almost entirely through emails and chatroom dialogue, this heartwrenching fic is so good I've tried to introduce to non-fandom friends. Sadly, its actually GOOD fanfic, and requires knowledge of these guys' friendship to properly rip your heart out.

#HUGE SPOILERS AHEAD WATCH OUT #i first read this fic in high school and it made me cry so much that i didn't do my biology homework that night #the idea of bobby not just dying from the legacy virus but dying in a collar because his mutation could become too unstable and hurt people #was so gut wrenching to me #and hank practically killing himself with guilt over it 😭#such a good use of the email and chat room format #it really made me want to read more AUs where bobby died from the legacy virus #and if i'm being totally honest i kind of wish he had died in canon from the legacy virus during that period #would it have been on the nose to have the closeted gay character dies from what was basically Mutant Aids?#sure #but it's all about the execution #it could have been a really good opportunity to expand bobby's character #a great death story can really define a character #and it's still a comic book with comic book solutions #so even if bobby had been dead for like five to ten years his death would still be very meaningful to his character arc #jean being the prime example of this #bobby drake #xmen

I don't think Johnny likes Bobby enough to give Daken a shovel talk...like, they're friends, but Johnny and Bobby can't be in the same room for longer than five minutes without getting into a slapfight and needing to be separated. They're bros, but he's not protective of him.

I think he gives Bobby a reverse shovel talk, like, "Oh I guess you can date Daken if you must, but do me a favor and be really terrible to him. Like, just devastate him emotionally. I want that man to suffer. And inexplicably you seem to be capable of making it happen???"

Bobby: On it, boss. 🫡

(Bobby will devastate Daken by, like, loving him and shit. Daken's unprepared for this kind of emotional warfare. Everyone wins!)

Bobby’s genderqueer and I won’t be told otherwise

Even in early comics he was never one to be embarrassed about feminine things, letting himself poke fun at it and was close with jean, being one of the few men around to never try and make an honest go at her, all tries being in the presence of other men (this could be viewed as gender security or his eventual reveal to be gay)

And in other ways, he refers to himself as the cold, ice, frost, more than he really calls himself a man (mostly because of his inferiority complex and deep seeded hatred for his own being that never really went away even after his dad died (once again, the ice counterpart to Johnny Storm)) I don’t think he views himself as just a man, but something more than that.

I think he uses he/him pronouns as a easy way to have people refer to him than explain he identifies as the embodiment of cold

#I've always been interested in this idea #one of the big early tentpoles of the Closeted Bobby theory came from his complicated relationship with a being named Cloud #who caused bobby to have a crisis when they went from having a female form to also transforming into a male one #I always thought it would be interesting if bobby hadn't just been freaked out over being gay #but because he had never considered that someone could identify as both a man and woman without having to align mostly to one or the other #we've also had several allusions to bobby having a connection with Frost Giants #in one issue thor mentions to bobby that there were legends that ymir once took a human form--implying bobby could be descended from him #and in jotunheim the frost giants have learned to find him very intimadsfing #in various different pieces of lore frost giants are able to take human and animal forms as they please #and i believe this has been referenced in the comics as well #meaning that loki's shapeshifting abilities may something a lot of feisty giants do to some extent #and loki has been known in recent comics to take male female and more androgynous forms--now using they pronouns as well #it would be cool to see loki help bobby explore himself as well as his connection to joutenheim #loki still owes him for kidnapping him and torturing him anyway #bobby drake #loki #xmen #*frost giants not feisty giants lol #scott summers

the way infinity comic releases are marketed when they're coming to print (as opposed to just being available online through the marvel app like it was previously) is a little confusing and probably intentionally misleading tbh, but as far as I'm aware, nothing being released is new material and there are no plans to give Bobby more solo content atm (unless the print version of this sells well i guess, but marvel isn't terribly interested in spotlighting queer characters right now so who knows)
