Wolverine & The X-men Review
Now that you see all the content of each episodes, I will be posting reviews after every content the blog has tackled.
Wolverine and the x-men was first released on 2009 and ended in the same year. The story was focused on, well. Wolverine more than the X-men.
I do love the character but it's unfortunate to see the team get sidelined and dumbed down just for Logan to outshine them all. The show took some inspiration from the Fox movies, making Logan to appear tall and more inspired by Hugh Jackman's Wolverine, then the show giving some unfortunate characterization of a few characters.
Like Scott, a loveable leader turned into a brooding and mean character, becoming worse when Jean Grey and Xavier "passed" in the show. Supposedly he's to be improved on the next season but unfortunately, Disney, and bankruptcy happened and the show has to be canceled.
Emma Frost. She was done so well in this show and I loved her, especially her constant banter with Logan and his distrust of her. She was an amazing Emma and her story was about to lead to a more interesting turn, especially when Jean lived, and her feelings for Scott was brewing more and more.
Storm. She had an amazing episode and I loved her design, but unfortunately as the title of the show goes. She was then absolutely useless and weak in the entirety of the show and have barely talked at all especially when summoning her storm. It's unfortunate as I wished to see more of her like the storm we knew.
Rogue. Out of all the Rogue I've seen, she's unfortunately unlikable, to me at least. She and Logan appears to have a close relationship like in the movies, but the way she was written is something I didn't like. Her issues and huge distrust of Logan seems forced and unimportant. The show didn't tackle how they got close, but since it took some inspiration from the Fox movies, they might have the same meeting. But since their history is so vague in the show, it feels so lacking to make the audience care. She was redeemed of course, but we didn't get to see her meet Gambit and such.
Angel. Oh how I absolutely loved him in this, he's what you expect a good hero is. Using his money for good and help mutant kind in secret made me love him more. Then the way they explored the angst of his relationship with his father is absolutely perfect. Once he becomes Archangel, they made him terrifying, full of revenge and betrayed by what his father did. Then his father only ever realizing the grave mistakes in the end. Only that he'll never get his son back the same way again. It creates such a perfect drama for future episodes, but now we can only guess what happened.
Kitty, Bobby, Forge. All still young but sidelined. I wanted to know more about them especially about kitty, and why is Forge different? I first thought he was a bootleg of Tony Stark, mostly played for comedic relief and just extremely different from the Forge we know. Then there's Bobby. If this Bobby is still a young student, then who is the other ice-man in Scott's flashback?
Kurt Wagner had great episodes, then this new take on his relationship with Wanda is quite interesting. And it appears he has no relation with Mystique in this show, so his lore might be different. But then again, we don't know unless there's another season. He might still be Raven's son.
Armor. Surprisingly, she's here. But her past wasn't really explored and how was she captured by the MRD, she might be important in the future so she's really just a side character in this show, with Kitty acting like her big sister.
X-23. The plot of the show being inspired by the days of future past, I'm surprised to see her so early in the show. She doesn't speak and not much is shown about her, we all know her lore, and we know she'll be important in the future for Logan's story, but unfortunately that will never happen.
Finally, Beast. The character my blog is focused on. I started this blog for him specifically as he's one of my favorite characters. And after the whole Benjamin Percy run in the comics, I explored the whole x-men content in different medias to show how beast has always been depicted as kind, loving and caring.
Beast here is shown plenty of times. Mostly with Logan, I loved their relationship specifically as they both pair well for being the opposite of each other. Logan being a man with savagery and Hank, a beast but with a kind and nurturing spirit. I always enjoyed seeing them on screen.
Color me surprised to find out it's the most underrated friendship in all media of the x-men. Sure, they have some moments in the comics but that's unfortunately soured as of recent writing. So we might never see them together again.
Anyways, Beast's design reminds me of Kelsey Grammer's Beast. With the hair and vest, but his personality differs. Hank here is soft spoken and doesn't speak like the beast we all know and familiar with. No quotes and witty quips which I'm sad about. But I do enjoy the mature personality.
He's voiced by Fred Tatasciore who voiced plenty of characters and monsters. Especially the many versions of Hulk. And I find his voice for Hank Mccoy rather comforting and soothing. I wish he could voice more Hank Mccoy in the future.
Now, what do we think about his future in the show? Well, it's revealed that Emma Frost will be put back together but not by his hands like in the comic. Or so the "leak" says, that she'll be put together and revived by Jean instead. As for Dark Beast in the age of apocalypse, there wasn't anything about it.
Not even in released concept Arts or scripts. Which I'm bummed about, I always wanted to see Dark Beast in action. But it appears to be the x-men curse that something goes wrong and or canceled when Age of Apocalypse is in the works.
Now, what do I think of the show?
It has its moments, but the show is so focused on Wolverine that other characters suffers from being a side characters. They become weaker, hell, so easily defeated by a bunch of ninjas just for Logan to come and rescue them all.
Now, for having plenty of problems in the show, I still find it intriguing. I still loved, it, it has its best moments, plenty of stories to be explored if only the show had continued. I might have given it more ratings.
Now, is there a chance the show will be revived just as Marvel did with X-men the Animated Series? No.
It was based on popularity and Nostalgia. Watxm isn't really well known. Even with potential, it sadly won't be revived just because of that.
The show went through so much because of Bankruptcy, then worse when Disney came. So all these canceled shows we know, won't be getting the same treatment as X-men 97.
