Hello welcome to my first shitty Sam Look Outside analysis post. First of many. I hope. This one's about Meat World apartment 33 and how the remade cursed give us insight into Sam's mental health

First of all I LOVE YOU MEAT WORLD APARTMENT 33 AUGHGUGHAG IT MADE ME FALL EVEN MORE IN LOVE WITH SAM'S CHARACTER

I really like how some of the remade cursed's lines can be read as Sam's own thinking process, especially Confusion and Stretchface's. Yes, they mean what they say in the most literal way possible, time flows slower and they're confined there, but but but what!!! Has!!! Sam been doing anyway???

"[He sleeps] for a long time" (Confusion) because "1 minute is 23 [there]" (Stretchface), but really, what has Sam been doing all this time at home? When was the last time he got out of his apartment? He doesn't even change when going to bed. His house is a mess, as Papineau points out. I don't find hard to imagine Sam barely having the will to get out of bed, to be fair. And Confusion talks about all the work Sam's supposed to do too! He's supposed to do something, anything, but he can't!!!!

Stretchface tells us more about his struggles. "What is it this time? Brushing your teeth? Shower? Something else?" (to me this phrasing implies that Sam kind of does one thing or the other. Doing everything's too much) again because they watch Sam, but it's also a very real thought someone struggling with self-care would have (source: me)

Then, Spine my beloved. I see Spine as a representation of Sam's depression as a whole. Always following him. They don't have anything but each other. She tells him he'll be happier if he stays with her. Which. In my mind. Is a metaphor for suicide. Just give up. Let her win. She doesn't do it out of maliciousness, she genuinely thinks it'd be the best for him. It'll hurt, but only for a moment... Kind of like when Sam accepts her offer to be remade. Hm.

Sidenote I really like Spine being referred to with she/her pronouns. First of all women win, second of all it makes me think it's... I don't want to say intentional... A shrewd choice, yeah. You know what other noun alongside spine is feminine in French? Eyup, depression I'm definitely reading too much into it

In my first run I killed Spine and I kind of consequentially now hc Sam killing her out of desperation. He didn't want to kill her, he regrets it, but, let's say her words were hitting a little too close to home. He wanted her to cut it off, because he's aware of his own issues... But the moment someone starts spelling them to his face he gets worked up (hello projection centre here)

do not think sybil asks anyone to look after jasper during her decline throughout the months b4 the visitors arrival as she does with sam in the promise ending bc by the time she realized herself completely lost she didnt have the Means to communicate that desire BUT i rlly like the idea that after sybils loss of lucidity beryl takes it upon herself to be there for jasper bc shes the only person with enough knowledge + familiarity to offer that support at all (edwin at first too detached from the astronomers to play that role, then too busy getting stargazered + grinding ppl into pulp. lol)

Ooghh I wish they could make it so you could purposely expose Aster to the visitor so I could have that weird pink worm on a string in my apartment forever... I don't care if he eats me, I like him

the idea of dream eater aster as a full on party member has been haunting me ever since u sent this ask. heres 2 ideas with images about it vv

^^ aster refuses to stay in apartment 33 while anyone is asleep at first for fear of losing control and devouring them. intead, he hunkers down in jasper's apartment on floor2 (with permission !) and waits until sam collects him in the morning. after aster gets attacked by a shade while wandering floor2's halls to distract himself one night, morton offers to keep him company throughout the night in whatever apartment he choses to hide away in. the multi-hour show and tell sessions + lectures prove incredibly effective at keeping aster grounded

^^ leigh would find aster a lot more fun now if he wasnt constantly kneecapping himself to avoid giving into base instincts. at least she can goad him into reacting without thought sometimes !

I KNOWWW i love the idea that aster rlly puts forth the effort to understand + connect with morton bc he finds him an absurdly fascinating person (even beyond the transformation, asters real sympathetic over the collecting (though hes a lot more discerning than morton, he DOES have a collection of geological samples + little trinkets akin to his lucky amulet) and lecturing) and when morton finally tunes into that fact it feels like the most natural conclusion possible and he even starts looking out for funny rocks to give to aster <3

a little something for an idea where the astronomers take a more active role in offering collection and buddy up with party members to do so. aurelius + audrey get tossed into a moral quandary neither are equipped to deal with

im planning on exploring this idea more in the future but just for fun heres the other mini party ideas

- aster + leigh- aster goes thru the same chase as in game and manages to defeat leigh by mag dumping in a blind panic. shes a lot more sore + aggressive bc she views that victory as extremely unfair, but still tags along bc its funny 2 see him squirm at her prodding

- beryl + xaria + monty- beryl saves the pair from a meatcar in the parking garage, then cannot shake them when they refuse to lie low in the safe + cozy encampment musette + friends have running in the boiler room. lots of rowdy teen wrangling

- jasper + dan- dan got stuck on the ground floor because he was in the convenience store when the elevator went out. jasper recognizes him in mutts fish + chips and cannot stop from going 'dan ??? my annoying as fuck neighbor ?????' and that recognition has dan clinging to him like a limpet and insisting on tagging along. lots of internal agonizing and hairpulling from jasper until they make it up to dans apartment and face the Horrors
