An amusing consequence of the utility of terminals and shells and subshells to the average programmer is that all their favorite text editors can both contain them and run inside them.
Here's Emacs (batch) inside sed inside ed inside Vi inside Vim inside Neovim inside Emacs (terminal, standalone) inside Emacs (GUI, client).
emacs is even better because of exwm, you could run Firefox inside of emacs if you wanted to
would you rather: spend 1 hour with chatgpt or 1 hour with M-x doctor
M-x doctor Pros:
AI peaked with Eliza
no lake evaporation
only emissions are my computer burning from linux kernel compile in the background
Cons:
none
tf do you mean good luck
This is why we don’t use Arch
Chuckling to myself remembering the time I completely broke a scammer's brain by telling them I use Linux.
Scammer: do you have an apple or a windows computer please?
Me: neither, I use Linux.
Scammer: no no no, I asked if you use a apple or a windows
Me: neither
Scammer: what is the sticker? Is it a four boxes or is it an apple with a bite?
Me: ... I don't use EITHER of them. There's a third operating system called Linux. It isn't a PC or a mac. Please tell me you understand
Scammer: do -- do you know what I mean about apple or windows sir?
Me: yes. I'm a software developer. I understand completely. I'm telling you that YOU don't understand. Its called Linux, spelled L-I-N-U-X, type it into google
Scammer:
Scammer: but is it an apple or a windows computer sir
reminds me of when I first started using Ubuntu (or maybe Pop!_OS(?)) and ended up on a scam page that was spamming the print dialogue and telling me that my Windows computer was infected with a fake BSOD. Dear reader, this was 2019, systemd didn't have BSODs yet.
Throwback to the glibc aborkening. Don't install LFS on 2 hours of sleep on your main system, doesn't end too well.
Did you know: borking the FreeBSD makes the Nix go weewoo??
nix is cursed
"Nix" is cursed, every other distro and package manager is sane.
freebsd or slackware
Neither, I prefer Portage Prefix running under Manjaro Linux to have the freedom of non-binary package management and the convenience of binary packages under pacman. While I am aware that Gentoo has added binpkg support, I borked glibc and now Gentoo has scarred me for life.
