The prepper emergency ration bucket I bought recently just arrived, and folks, if you suffer from anxiety, this really helps! I did not expect how much knowing I don't need to worry about food in a minor to moderate crisis would help my baseline level of anxiety! This may have diminishing returns if you aren't a current events nerd, but if you can afford it, I highly recommend going squirrel mode. Your brain will like knowing you have a cache!
An older relative got me a lottery ticket for Christmas and I'm here to report my discovery that the disappointment from losing the lottery is in fact much worse than the excitement from fantasizing about winning

it's so fucking lame that Christianity only has one lineage of priests. All of these fuckers are all of the priesthood of Peter. We could have had 11 different lines of priests. That would have been so much more interesting.
I've seen so many articles about how important it is to preserve Homestuck for the sake of art preservation, and I had so many friends who loved it in highschool that it's kinda taken on a legendary element of nerd culture in my head. I just watched the animated pilot more or less blind on the story or premise, and I'm fucking crushed. I don't think I'm capable of the level of suspension of disbelief to engage with it. I feel like I just watched my first episode of TNG and felt hatred for Jean Luc Picard.
Enough people I love love this that I must be wrong, but I just don't see how! How is it possible that every high school crush I ever had was obsessed with this?! They all had taste! They were all cooler than I was! I must be wrong!
have you tried More Marijuana
I say that as someone who read it sober as a teenager, but like. get high enough you’re basically 14 again
ITS NOT WORKING

Thinking about the time I was eating at a restaurant next to a furry convention and I see the single nastiest fursuit I've ever seen in my life. The fur is sticking out at odd angles and it's that awful shade of brown where you *know* it used to be white. I'm one of a dozen restaurant patrons looking on in horror that this fursuit is being allowed anywhere near food when the head of the fursuit comes off and BAM we're all looking at the prettiest girl I've ever seen in my life. Her hair is filthy, I think her fur suit might genuinely have fleas, and despite all of that she was a 12/10 grey eyed vision of Aphrodite. A complete visual oxymoron.
I was driving home from work and I had an epiphany: the ideas of homosexual and heterosexual are inherently limiting our ability to conceptualize gender. Like, full on Sapir-Whorf, you will understand Gender better if you do not rely on them.
What the fuck does MY gender have to do with my sexual preferences? The Self has nothing to do with whether I am interested in, or prefer, men or women! What am I, a "no" non-binary person? Am I homosexual? Am I hetero? The question simply isn't USEFUL. However, the terms I propose, femmesexual, masculosexual, phallussexual, and yonisexual make your preference perfectly clear to anyone with a basic familiarity with Greek and Latin roots, and places the emphasis of sexual preference on the one you desire, WHERE IT BELONGS! This is clear, and furthermore, it makes plain the distinction between gender and sex!
This doesn't mean we completely abandon homo and heterosexual as concepts. They do have a use, and that is to categorize SPACES. Showing up to a space where people who are femmesexual might gather to pursue a partner might sound appealing if you're bi or pan, but for the rest of us, generally knowing who will hit on who, where, remains useful.
However, when meeting someone outside a space designated for the mating dance, when someone expresses interest in you, it's more useful to explain what we WANT when accepting or refusing their interest then who we ARE. All things being equal, if a girl asks you out, what matters more? Whether or not you're a girl, or whether or not you like girls?
can't believe these idiot scientists haven't figured out nuclear fusion yet just add more hydrogen dumbass it will sort itself out eventually
calling it now, pope leo is going to excommunicate JD Vance, cause a split in the republican party that leads to the impeachment of the president and the collapse of the American two party system
I'm starting to suspect that all these toxic workplaces that claim that "we're like a family here" might be making people's home lives worse, not just by all the usual reasons, but by changing peoples expectations and assumptions about how family members should treat each other.
Its an ouraborus eating it's own tail. If you already hate your family, or even just don't expect them to be trustworthy or supportive, are you really gonna stay late on a Friday or put in free overtime because "we're a family here"?

The year is 1610. You are an aspirant occultist. John Dee is dead. Shakespeare is soon for the grave. Europe has spent the last century and a half embroiled in bloody religious wars at the behest of kings and priests. Faith in the old institutions is strong, but there are whispers. Dangerous ideas like science, democracy, rationalism, and the rights of man, are taking root in the coffee shops and reading groups of Europe. The broth of the enlightenment simmers on the backburner of history.
This is a strange era for magic. Where the renaissance was dominated by a chain of individual thinkers, all in conversation with one another, the 1600s saw a new element in the mix: The Secret Society.
