Idk why new people are following me but there's 2 ground rules to remember:
1. My opinions are stupid so you should ignore them and form your own opinions instead
2. My opinions are soooooooooo good and actually I'm the only one who gets it. Ok?

This is depressing does anyone else find this depressing
I would actually make the argument that the heart of the problem here is not either about fans, as the article claims, or production companies being exploitative cowards, as some of the comments are claiming. The heart of the problem is the increasingly eroding privacy we are seeing in the modern age.
There's some people in the comments saying "fandoms have always been like this" and others saying "No, it's worse than it was." And both are to some extent right. Fans (or at least a small percentage of fans, and the larger a fanbase gets the larger a group this will describe) have always been Like That; but they did not always have the level of access to creators and actors that they have now.
The notion that a performer needs to be constantly available to public scrutiny, that their personal information should by default be available to any rando with google, is pretty new. It used to be that actors would only be expected to engage with the public on limited, specific, and controlled occasions, usually with security provided. Now they're being asked to rawdog exposure to the mob 24/7 on their own.
(Also, production companies have always always always been exploitative cowards, just to get that straight; reading the biographies of literally any actress from golden Hollywood years makes that clear. It's just, again, more public now.)
There has also been a negative feedback loop as fandoms come to realize that the constant access they have to creatives increases their leverage and power. It did not use to be the case that this was so; fandoms pre-internet largely worked under the assumption that they didn't really have any meaningful way to contact or influence the publication houses. Even if they sent a letter or a campaign of letters, they wouldn't even know whether the letters were being received or read unless the publishing house chose to respond. So, without that expectation of access, the drama usually stayed internal. Nowadays, with constant immediate feedback from creators and publishers, fans are ever more incentivized to act out to try to push an agenda, get attention, or just vent whatever is going on in their lives onto a face contractually obliged to be friendly to them.

boostle week day 3: secrets
full comic under the cut!
@boostle-events 🫶🏻
Almost nobody on this website is brave enough to draw characters with hairy thighs and that sickens me
by all means. but also by all niceys
i really salute all pregnant trans men who share their journey online because if i was going through pregnancy already (which is more than i could ever do, hats off to you) and also dealing with the dysphoria and social alienation of being a pregnant man and i posted it on the internet to show that it’s a possibility and people just made 1000 omegaverse and mpreg jokes at me i think i might run away forever and never come back
given the state of the world right now, the risk of even existing as a pregnant man is high. But then whenever you see a tiktok by a seahorse dad instead of any respect for the op the comments are all like “LOL MPREGGED” or showing disgust like genuinely can we be normal for once

sometimes someone I follow falls victim to severe Character delirium to the point where they stop even saying the character's name and just refer to them by an epithet like some kind of malevolent entity whom they don't wish to accidentally summon, so if the sickness sets in quickly enough and I don't pay close attention for a week I'm just Never going to figure Who this bastard haunting my friend Actually Is. and I'll spend months scrolling my dash occasionally seeing appeals to "that fucking horse" or "my evil grub."
Hi I’m the anon who asked about the de aging trope! I definitely agree with you. Seems like people just don’t interact with kids that much?
What are your favorite tropes?
I think it's a combination of people not interacting with kids and people not actually thinking about the age of the kids they're interacting with. If I have to see another fictional eight year old with no attitude, acting like a 5 year old, I WILL cry.
I don't know if I have a list of my favourite tropes on hand 🤔 I think in terms of fanfiction tropes, I really like telepathy or removal of inhibition -- both give us an insight into what a person thinks past their layers of repression, and I loooooove characters with layers of repression. The type of fanfiction that asks "under what circumstances would this person be vulnerable" and then grinds the character down to dust until they're vulnerable are very very interesting to me. I love character studies.
Also one of my favourite sort of. Genres? Of fic? That I almost never see and I would love to see more, are extremely rigorous AUs. I tend to have a distaste for most AUs because most of them remove all the yummy worldbuilding/character dynamics and then try to start from scratch. Like. You removed all the leadup and now you're trying for romance in 10k words? No!
But when people get into the nitty gritty of an AU, especially a silly AU, I LOVE it. If you're doing a modern AU I need it to have the same tension and interpersonal complication as the canon. I need that Wendy's shift manager to have the same desperate homoerotic power imbalance with their favourite opener that they have in the universe where they're the commanding general. I refuse to accept lower stakes, only sillier stakes. I need an author to jump through hoops to make everything analagous.
"but then what's the point of AUs?" you ask. The answer is mostly comedy and having fun, but also you can make the character studies get VERY personal to an audience who exists in their world now. The character studies can go crazy with different archetypes for different genres, I love it.
