A good part of the tumblr userbase understands that rape jokes are bad, they understand that using “rape” and “rapist” as “funny quirky meme words” is fucked up and bad.

But at the same time we’ve reached a weird paradigm where a lot of people who understand that consider “war crime” and “war criminal” to be Funny Quirky Meme Words without realizing that war crimes very much includes rape!! It very much includes rape of all kinds in all kinds of scales!

It includes doing the most heinous things against children, it includes a wide range of the most heinous things. Just read the definition of war crime.

Why is it that you think that rape jokes are unacceptable but war crimes jokes are funny and cute and harmless?

Isn’t it trivializing of actual war crimes the amount of people in this site who now have the immediate reaction on their brain to thing of “war crime” as Funny Meme like a Pavlovian response?

Is it too weird that I think that this is fucked up?

I just wanna say, when I originally wrote this post I remember wondering if maybe the reason why people have different reactions to rape jokes and war crimes jokes had to do with people being largely ignorant about what war crimes entail.

Now it has gotten increasingly clear to me that it has less to do with ignorance and everything to do with people not thinking of war crimes as something “real” the same way they think of rape. Rape is something that can happen to them, within their communities. War crimes on the other hand are something that happens to other people, to other countries, therefore they don’t even register it as “real”. People treat it as some sort of imaginary concept because the victims don’t even register as real to them.

A Group Which Almost Became Historic 

It's been over a decade since I first read Les Mis, and first drew this, (which still floats around in reblogs, the original post now being deleted with my old blog) and I thought I ought to finish this for Barricade Day. At the time, that illustration was the most ambitious I had ever drawn.

In the last ten years, Les Mis has perhaps felt more pertinent than ever. In Australia, where I live, bigoted, far-right political parties that were previously considered fringe are leading polls on the back of racist, anti-immigration rhetoric. I donate regularly to a charity that supports refugees that is local to me, the Asylum Seeker Resource Center, and am going to do so again today. I encourage you to do the same, either to the ASRC, or to an equivalent charity in your area.

in the "your first fictional crush says a lot about you" logic, i know having an anthro mouse as my first crush would have made so much more sense if i grew up to be a furry, but i'm not despite my efforts. i have friends who are furries and really admire them for their clarity of vision. i love animals, i've adored cats specifically all my life, but i'm just not really able to envision myself as a cat or any other animal i like. i don't think i have a furry's mindset

my theory is that any furry seed within me got crowded out by the fact that from i was a very young child, i imagined i was a changeling (which says some very obvious things about my relationship with my family i think). specifically the ones from scandinavian folklore that have a cow tail. this idea has never left me. on every level except physical i have a cow tail
