These earthenware plates were made by students of the Vienna Museum in Celje, Slovenia in 1876.

I can’t find precise information about these plates specifically, but Slovenia was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in the 19th century, and in 1846 the rail line to Vienna reached Celje, helping it to become a regional commercial and industrial center. It’s interesting to think about the circumstances under which these plates must have been made - I think it must have been something more like a factory than an artist’s studio.

Regardless, the plates are beautiful.
