Love to see people working with the style of this series so well Amazing art!
unless you specify otherwise. The majority of celestial bodies in space are the amazingly high quality photos from Telescopes and Satellites in space, or the work of talented astrophotographers spending an uncountable amount of hours with their rigs to the sky, recording and shooting. And more time in photo editing software developing, and post processing what the cameras and telescopes can see, to something that our sensitive, but narrow vision may appreciate. This is not to discredit their work, nine times out of ten, that is what people will care about when they talk about space, not a bright dot in the sky. But for the aspiring stargazer, it can lead to disappointment when viewing these entities through your average telescope, binoculars or camera. There is a certain mistuqie about the simplicity of very lightly edited, unstacked images of these beautiful—incredibly large— things in space. Space is free, We'll more likely be gone before the stars in the sky are. The only thing realistically stopping the average person from seeing them is Money, and or Light Pollution. One is easier to combat than the other sometimes.

“Leg Work” : Helmut Newton for Vogue U.S.A. , January 1996.
This (to me) gives off some very unpleasant feelings. These two ladies are encased in blackness outside of their crossed legs.
Nothing but the glint of their smile and drink in their glass can be seen in the curtain of darkness.
Despite it being day (assumed by the white outside) this patch of nothing seeks to shroud them.
To me, it feels like they're waiting for something to happen. Keeping up an appearance until that point passes.
Like you just got poisoned and you're mere seconds away from keeling over.

Youtube Boycott Update: MORE GOOD NEWS!
Fight For The Future has now entered the fight! FtF is an organization that has been fighting internet censorship and serveillance for years and is one of the most prominent organizations doing so! Including but not limited to organizing efforts and spreading the word to stop KOSA and the SCREEN Act.
They now have an action items where you can call your local lawmakers and tell them how youtube's new policy is not only violating privacy laws, but also complying with the laws of a foreign country for no reason.
You can also tell them if you are someone personally affected by youtube's bs if you were flagged or not.
And that's not all, THE FTC has come out against this nonsense as well! Specifically, the FTC chairman has advised companies not to lower their data privacy for outside influences like The UK and Europe. the FTC seems worried about weakened American security that could result in fraud and identity theft. They also warned companies that they could be in risk of going against“FTC Act’s prohibition against unfair and deceptive practices in the marketplace” by lowering their cybersecurity.

Federal Trade Commission Chairman Andrew N.
What we are doing IS having an impact! KEEP GOING! At this rate it's not a questionof if, but a matter of WHEN Youtube is gonna walk this back. They're feeling the heat from ALL sides including the freaking government! However, that doesn't mean we can be lax. We need to keep up the pressure, and go even harder! In lightof Youtube using spam bot reviews to maintain their ratings on the app store, another tumblr user recommended we report spam bot reviews and mark them as unhelpful!
Keep up the great work guys! May all age verification, censorship and serveillance policies crash and burn!
How to draw Afro textured 4c hair - an explanation/Tutorial
For those of you that don’t know what 4c hair is, 4c hair is a hair texture type that contains coils to small and tight that the hair appears to be more puffy rather than curly ( like to photo below ) this is in NO WAY to be confused with curly hair. there is a drastic difference.
As a black artist that primarily draws characters with 4c hair, I’ve been asked many times to do a tutorial on 4c hair so here we go~
before we get into 4c hair, lets take a moment to fully understand it by talking about hair texture in a general sense first
let’s take a look at this example of straight hair vs curly hair ( 1 type straight hair vs 3 type curly hair )
If you take a moment to compare the two you’ll notice straight hair is flat, it has no texture. Straight hair perfectly hangs down similar to liquid-like silk. It’s lack of curl pattern is the reason as to why it hangs perfectly flat.
curly hair on the other hand doesn’t lie down flat and silky like straight hair, It’s more thick. Curly hair in it’s raw and unstyled state has a trapezoid like shape this is because the sides of the hair spread more outward.
So why is this? Why is straight hair flat and curly hair thick?
the answer to that question is a thing called piling up. When it comes to hair texture, the shape of the hair strands aren’t the only thing that matters, its how the strands coexist with each other, Curly hair strands coexist by piling up on top each other.
moisture also effects hair texture too, different hair types absorbs moisture differently, thus the thickness of each hair type is different.
…..soooo, how does this all relate to how to draw 4c hair??
Well let’s take a look at the drawing below. Notice how the arrows go outward more as the hair texture gets curlier. As we’ve already discussed, this is because hair piles up, The curlier the hair texture, the more it piles up on each other, the bigger it gets, the more outward the arrows go.
Out of any hair texture, 4C hair has the most curls. Because of this, the hair piles up on each other so much that it doesn’t lie down flat like straight hair, nor does it make a trapezoid like shape like curly hair, it instead becomes more cloud like.❤️
This is what you need to take into account when it comes to drawing 4C hair.
Think of it as piling up a bunch of cotton balls on each other. The most cotton on top of top to lead to a bigger patch of cotton. this is 4c hair.
How to not draw 4c hair:
Garnet fanart. Let’s talk about Garnet Fanart. I notice a trend that when artists draw Garnet from Steven universe, her hair texture is usually changed to 3 type curly like texture. This subtle form of White washing has confused me because this is inaccurate.
Garnet’s hair is in the shape of a cube. Though 3 type hair piles up on each other, it isn’t curly nor thick enough for their hair to stay in the shape of a cube. Curly hair lies down more than 4c hair. So garnet’s hair being in the shape of a cube is a dead giveaway that it is 4C. Why do you think hairstyles like flat tops are usually seen on black men with 4c hair? It’s because, the 4c hair texture is thick and strong enough to stay in whatever shape you put it in.
please, if you’re drawing a character with 4c hair, avoid drawing it like curly 3 type hair, this is very anti-black and texturist.
So, how do you draw 4c hair?
honestly, its the most easy thing in the world
i wanna clarify that blobby looking 4c drawings ( like the one on the top left ) can work depending on how cartoony your art style is.
Another thing that I want to greatly clarify when it comes to drawing 4C hair is, YOU. DONT. NEED. TO. DRAW. EVERY. HAIR. STRAND!…..like, seriously. I’ve gotten many messages about how 4C hair is hard to draw, and it’s always left me confused; but then I find out that the same people that have trouble drawing 4C hair, attempt to draw every single strand of hair. This is unnecessarily time consuming because it’s merely impossible to get every single detail down, especially when you have a simple cartoon style. 4C hair does not require much effort, all you’re doing is drawing lumps. It’s that simple, nothing more nor nothing less.
The reason why I greatly advise all of you to avoid drawing every single hair strand is because in real life, when you look at a 4C textured Afro, your eyes don’t pick up on each individual hair strand like straight or curly hair. 4C hair, appears to be more undefined and cloud like, so attempting to draw each and every individual strand is unnecessary and will most likely end up looking inaccurate.
Anyways! that’s it for now! there will be a part 2 to this tutorial that will come out next week! i hope you guys have learned from this and apply it to your black character in your art!~
UGH OMG I LOVE THIS POST!!! 😭💕💕
I just love the fact that there’s a guide out there to help folks draw hair textures like my own! I don’t really see things like this too often and it’s welcome information that I’m more than happy reblogging! :))

Donkey Kong Bananza Talk: Kremlings & King K. Rool
Its about damn TIME, its been 11 years since a new entry in the DK Series and im THRILLED to see its taking the 'Mario Odyssey' route of Open world platformer experimenting with a new concept (I.E: Destructible environments).
Its unfortunate that Kremlings and by proxy, King K.Rool, are still absent as usual (Now more than ever would suit them well as a proper antagonist). Not to say I don't like the current cast of characters we can only assume are the bad guys (More Monkey=Good),But it always feels bittersweet every time the Kongs are fighting some more nondescript villains when there is a whole group of bad guys with built up context and lore right there! (Obviously the main reason is most likely them being tied up in Legal papers, Rare is with Microsoft, so its increasingly unlikely we'd see anything of K.Rool outside of his appearance in another Smash Bros game).
At the end of the day, More Donky Kong is what I like, regardless of weather or not Kremlings are involved...
However...
I noticed something interesting in the trailer for the recently announced Donkey Kong Bananza.
There is a consistent prevalence of these Crocodile lookin guys in the trailer. All of them are pretty blink-and-you'll-miss-it but its there. Call it Cope or something but it leaves the door open for Kremlings, or at least some 'Nintendo Owned Kremling-Like creatures'.
Ekzibit A.1
The first one we see is this stone statue guy, clearly some Croc vibes going on with the carvings.
Ekzibit A.2
The same stone guy, after the outer layer is shattered, revealing a gold skeleton with again, more croc features. Specifically the skull. It keeps its Club weapon even after the stone is shattered.
Ekzibit B
Another Stone Croc, made of a different matterial (Some sort of iridescent stone). this time in water and wielding a different (red) Club weapon.
Ekzibit C.1
More Crocs, this one lacking its Club, red in coloring, and covered in Spikes. DK uses the smaller enemy to break its outer shell rather than a basic attack.
Ekzibit C.2
Another Golden skeleton with Croc features, It also shows that the outer shell is made up of wood based on the shape of shrapnel resembling that of Woodchips in texture.
Ekzibit D
A Very large Totem Pole esque statue of multiple different Crocodile stacked on top of the another. Each layer a different material (Bottom:Clay or soft stone, Middle: An iridescent Stone, and Top: A Matte metal).
It wields an equally as large club/mace and has several of the golden skeletal limbs sticking out to facilitate movement.
Ekzibit E
A large group of Stone Crocodiles lined up behind what is assumed to be the Bad Guys of the game. The flying enemy in the back doesn't seem to match the 'Crocodile style' of earthenware.
Konclusion
Theres something to do with Crocodile like creatures in this game, weather or not they're proper Kremlings is 100% Speculation considering we only have two and a half minutes of footage to work with, and they wouldn't show off everything in one go.
My Crackpot theory is that these are some Dead Kremlings that have been 'resurrekted' from the dead by vengeful spirit 'Nekromancer Von Rool' Uncovered and dug up by the mining operations of Ingot Isle, they seek revenge for the disturbance of their resting place.
My Source for this theory? Any sort of backing evidence?.. None, I made it the fuck up. it would be SO FUCKING COOL!
Thank you for listening to my Ted Talk
being a self-taught artist with no formal training is having done art seriously since you were a young teenager and only finding out that you’re supposed to do warm up sketches every time you’re about to work on serious art when you’re fuckin twenty-five
someone: oh yeah, do this exercise during your warm ups! it’ll help
me: my what
What’s up I have an actual college degree in art and I was never ONCE taught to do warm ups.
when i was in undergrad, it was kind of mentioned in and offhand way that we should do warmups, but we were never shown what that meant. And, y’know, we were young so it didn’t matter so much.
Being older now and having an art job it’s…kind of essential.
So: a quick primer for those of you who are like ‘ok but how do i actually go about doing this warmup thing.’
1) you may be tempted to do ‘a warmup drawing’ which is just a drawing that will take longer than it needed to and probably be frustrating and kind of bad because you didn’t warm up first. It’s tempting but always a trick your brain is playing on you! Do not trust!
2) warmups will vary based on what feels good to you/what task you’re about to do/what motor skills you want to practice. That being said, some good standbys:
a) circles. Just a whole page of circles on whatever drawing surface you’re going to be using, whether that’s your tablet or your sketchbook or a drawing pad on an easel. For these circles you should make sure that you’re drawing from your shoulder and not your wrist. In fact, you want to be drawing from your shoulder rather than your wrist most of the time! forever! your wrist is delicate please preserve it!
In order to ensure that you’re drawing from your shoulder, when you’re holding your pencil or whatever drawing tool you’re using, the only part of your hand that should be touching the drawing surface is part of the last two fingers–some people prefer the finger tips, but I tend to favor the first knuckles. Either way, the fingers should really be ghosting over the surface, providing guidance rather than support.
I usually start with big circles and then go to smaller circles and lines of ellipses, and then try to fit circles and ellipses inside other shapes i’ve already drawn as a precision exercise, but i don’t do that unless i’m feeling loose
b) spirals! i don’t always do spirals, but if i’m stiff and the circles just aren’t cutting it, spirals are a good fall back. I start from the center and work outward, going both clockwise and counterclockwise until i feel comfortable with the whole range of motion. Some people really care about getting perfect spirals but for me it’s all about making sure i’m comfortable with how i’m moving so who really even cares about how the spirals look. Not me!
c) lines! straight lines! in parallel! i do a mix of vertical, horizontal, and diagonal. These are often more from the elbow than the shoulder, especially if I’m working on a smaller surface. For this exercise, I recommend holding the drawing tool perpendicular with the surface
d) connect the dots. This is a precision and accuracy exercise and takes two forms. The first is to draw two dots and then draw a straight line between them. The second is to draw three dots and draw the curve that connects them. This sounds a lot simpler than it is in practice. Take time to ghost over the line you plan to draw before actually committing to your line. (I don’t always remember where I picked up my warm up exercises, but I’m pretty sure I got this one from Scott Robertson. His how to draw and how to render books are very technical but also accessible and worth checking out)
e) cubes, spheres, cones, and cylinders. These help get your brain into a more volumetric space. I draw multiples of each, rotating the forms around, and I’ll often take the time to do some rough shading on at least a few of them
f) spidermans! This one is really good if you’re going to be storyboarding or working on dynamic poses. Just fill a page full of spidermans doing all sorts of acrobatics.
g) beans. I don’t do beans too much anymore, but I know a lot of people like it so I’m mentioning it here. Fill an area with different size bean shapes without lifting your pencil off the paper.
h) short medium and long line repetition. draw a short, medium, and long line on your page, and then draw directly on top of them 8 to 12 times, doing your best to exactly trace what you’ve already drawing. Repeat with a wavy line. I’m bad at this one, which means I probably need to do it more.
And there are lots more options too! Hit up youtube to see what other people recommend, put together your own go-to list, mix it up when you’re getting bored, etc.
This is a long list, I know, but I usually don’t take more than 10 to 15 minutes to warm up, and I can warm up one handed while I’m drinking coffee, so, multitasking hurrah.
Sometimes I’ll advance to a precision warmup and find that I haven’t loosened up enough yet; it’s totally ok to go back to an earlier exercise! Also, all of this has the added benefit of kind of ritualistically getting you into the drawing mode so even if I’m not feeling it before I start, by the time I’ve gotten to the end I’m usually Ready For Drawin’. Brain hacks.
so, yeah! that’s a lot of words, but! Warmups are important! Save your joints, take less advil, do better drawings!
How on earth are you supposed to draw from a sholder? might as well tell me to draw from the foot. It makes no sense
