@bonfiirehearts
hi?
i started watching this is us why did NO ONE stop me

He almost cries. It’s not that he’s sad or hurt or anything like that, he’s just so overwhelmed by how much more relaxed he is right now that it’s his gut reaction. He laughs instead, and as they fall down into the wet mud, Hendrix is laughing even more. Normally, he’d feel guilty for having this much fun when his mother couldn’t, but this was one of those moments that the woman continued to encourage him to have. To be himself and enjoy life. To really LIVE. Maybe it was stupid, to consider spinning around in the rain on a weekend camping trip LIVING, but for Hendrix, it’s so much more than that.
He almost thinks Celia realizes it too, but she’s laughing and laying in the mud while the thin shirt she wears clings to her and doesn’t hide a damn thing and all Hendrix can think as he looks at her is that she’s the most beautiful girl he’s ever seen in his life. “It’s not SO bad, is it?” he calls out, grinning at her through the rain. It’s raining hard, yes, but it’s not cold at all, to him at least, and though he knows that once they get back in the tent he’s going to want to dry off, right now it really isn’t all that horrible.
It takes a moment for Celia to catch her breath, but as the laughter dies down and she feels her heart rate begin to slow, her eyes begin to close. There is nothing comfortable about the hard ground beneath them, but there is something relaxing about stretching out completely, feeling the cool droplets of rain sprinkle across her face and arms and feet. It surprised her how naturally this came to her-- and the mere thought at what her father would think if he ever found out Celia was playing in the mud in a storm with a boy nearly brought her to laughter again, yet he spoke up before she could.
“It’s not. You were right,” she conceded, squinting up to make eye contact with him as a hand reaches for his and innocently holds it when her face turns back to the rain and her eyes close yet again. “I mean, we still look ridiculous.... but is it weird if I think the rain makes me feel weightless? Like nothing is holding me down or keeping me back... I’m just kind of here and in this moment, I don’t know, I just feel like I can breathe. Like, really breathe. Not just exist.”

Marianna felt stupid. She’d completely forgotten about their lunch plans and for some reason had been under the impression that Gio was going on his own. Pregnancy brain was the only downside of being pregnant that she could actually pinpoint. She had no qualms about gaining weight so long as it was a healthy amount, and thankfully, after today’s appointment, she’d been assured that she was fine. Still, she couldn’t help but look a little defeated as she realized that her bread and cake idea might not work out. She nodded, smiling softly. “We can just tell them, it’ll be the easiest that way, and you’re right about seeing their faces, it will be fun,” she told him.
No matter how mixed her feelings regarding sharing their news might be, she was positive about the fact that she was completely and utterly in love with the man in front of her. Marianna was perfectly happy with whatever they decided to do so long as he was with her. It amazed her that she’d been able to find love again and it was important to her that Giovanni know how much she cared about him and his family. Their family. “You know, dinner parties don’t always need to be so extravagant… “ she started, but then was struck by another idea. “Wait!” she said excitedly, pushing back just a little. “What if we decide on names today? We’ve already narrowed it down to ones we like best, but we could tell them at lunch that we’re having a boy, and ask them all to write down name suggestions. Tonight at dinner we announce the winning names, and slip in the twin thing that way. Like… we’ve decided to name our son Giovanni Foguiera the second… and his twin brother will be Mariano, after his most beautiful mother,” she teased.
Gio’s face lit up at her idea. He didn’t mind the pregnancy brain-- in fact, he found it endearing. It can’t be easy to manage everything that making a baby (or two) expects of you, but for what it’s worth, Marianna has handled it perfectly, and it has only made her more beautiful to him in the process. As he lends his arm to help her, safely, into the front seat of their the SUV. “That, my love, is a perfect idea. That way I don’t have to try to lie to my mother and we still surprise everyone and we still get to have the family over for dinner tonight. But I’m going to have to go ahead and veto naming one of our boys after me...” Once she’s in the car and buckled up, Gio kisses her cheek and runs to the other side of the car, situating himself as he poses her a question. “You know, I had no say in Celia’s name? We had a deal where I could pick the name if it was a boy, but obviously that wasn’t the case. I haven’t even thought about names yet this time... what are you thinking?”

By the time he actually reached Celia, most of the mud that had been caked on him had been washed off. He shook his head and reached for her hand. “No, we act like we’re fucking five year olds and play until we forget anybody else is even HERE,” he tells her, his voice raised slightly so she can hear him over the rain. “When are you going to get to do something like this again in your adult life?” he asked just moments before grabbing her other hand and starting to run in circles to spin the both of them around. It wasn’t just about getting her to loosen up, it was because moments like this were so few and far between in Hendrix’s life that he liked to try to take advantage of them as they came along. Moments where he could forget about the fact that his mother was dying and no matter how hard he worked, he would never be able to stop it. Moments where he didn’t have to worry that his baby sister was going to have to put her plans to go to college on hold because there wasn’t enough money. Moments where his biggest worry was that the beautiful girl who for some reason actually seemed to like him might fall into a puddle and actually realize she liked it. Yeah, he needed this. “GO FASTER!” he shouted, leaning back a little as they gained momentum and spun like teacups.
The look on his face is absolute bliss. Celia can tell that this isn’t just some silly tactic to play cute and be funny and flirt with her, nor a play to get into her pants... And while he may be talking like this is for her benefit, the boyish smile and ridiculous spins gave him away: this was his moment, his freedom, and she considered herself lucky to witness it. She was almost jealous of Hendrix and how he was always unapologetically himself, and how that let him be so carefree in this moment. Her entire life, Celia has struggled with her identity, stuck between the roles and expectations of the island she called home and the dreams and visions she has of herself and her future, constantly concerned with how her peers viewed her choices and behavior at all moments. But there was no one to impress here, just a goofy, laughing, spinning Hendrix and thank GOD for that because they look so ridiculous and she knows it and for once in her life, she doesn’t care. Answering him with only a laugh, Cee straightened her arms and let him lean back, spinning in a tight circle so that Hendrix could feel the force pulling him around and around and around-- despite the fact that there is no way in hell she’s strong enough to hold their balance, especially as the rain makes their hands more and more slippery by the second. “You’re slipping!” She cried, making one last desperate attempt to hang on to his fingers as he flies backwards, and she comes tumbling down into the mud beside him. Any hope of preserving the quality of this white v-neck was lost, the air was practically knocked out of her chest on impact, and she knew she was going to regret the mud in her hair in the morning-- but despite all of that, Celia can’t stop the fit of laughter that wracks through her body, preventing her from being able to even get a word out to admit that she’s having fun.
I’m running off six hours of sleep and I have a four hour LSAT Prep course after working ten hours today so someone please, tell me, how am I going to survive?
