Kai keeps his hands raised in that mock surrender, watching her facial expression with an amused, completely detached analytical eye. He knows that look. It’s the classic should I let you die or do my civic duty internal crisis. Honestly, he gives her props for considering the monster option - it's what he would do.
When she points out his lack of volume control, his smirk returns, entirely unabashed. He watches her slowly ease up from the crouch, his eyes tracking the fluid, lethal grace of her movements. Definitely a fighter. He stays low for a fraction of a second longer, letting her take the lead because, hey, if Inky comes back, she’s the one with the reflexes.
He slips out of the crouch, keeping his back nearly flush against the hideous yellow wallpaper just like her. He mimics her slow, tense glide down the corridor, though he manages to make even a stealth-crawl look incredibly casual. Leaning slightly toward her shoulder, he lets out a breathy, barely audible whisper, "A Snackwell? Wow. Throwback. And for the record, I wasn't screaming, I was vocalizing." Kai flexes his fingers against his thighs, glancing over her head at the endless, soul-crushing maze ahead of them. His eyes gleam with casual curiosity. "So, what's the actual destination here, boss? Because if the plan is just walk until our knees give out, I'm giving this dimension a one-star review."
A sudden, blood-curdling shriek rips through the drywall from a few corridors over. The unmistakable, desperate death scream of a woman completely out of options. The sound echoes violently, bouncing off the yellow walls before cutting out into a sickening, abrupt silence. Kai doesn't even flinch. Instead, he leans a little closer to the back of her head, his face lighting up with a terrifyingly bright, completely inappropriate grin. He gestures vaguely over her shoulder toward the fresh murder scene with a polite nod of his head. "Well, listen to that. Sounds like Inky found himself a starter course," he whispers right into her ear, totally unbothered by the horror of it all as he taps his knuckles lightly against the wallpaper beside her arm. "Which means it is officially our cue to exit stage left. After you, Captain."
