i think about this every time i use tinder
Reminder for parents that though you may be struggling, it is never appropriate to use your child as your therapist/counselor. Itâs unhealthy for the both of you.Â
Can I ask why? Iâm genuinely curious
Thereâs a few reasons as to why its wrong.
For one, a kid is not equipped to handle a parentâs problems. Iâm not saying to never express your feelings or say that youâre having a problem to a child. That can be healthy. But to use them to just dump on is too much. Children just arenât equipped to deal with the heaviness of adult problems, especially if theyâre already going through things themselves.
Two, the inherent power imbalance makes it really uncomfortable. Your child isnât your friend, theyâre your child. Even if they can offer advice, this sort of thing can become like a role reversal. They also would have a hard time separating themselves from it when it becomes too much. A lot of parents feel entitled to their childrensâ time and space, so the children can become overburdened with no reprieve and no way to express that this isnât their job.Â
Thereâs probably more and better ways to explain this, but thatâs my two cents on this.
Because I was the oldest child when my parents marriage was collapsing both of them used me to vent about the other, forcing me to justify their negative feelings about a person that I loved by virtue of their place in my life. At 10 years old I was attempting to negotiate the workings of an adult relationship that had never worked and validate their emotions without being harmful to the other. All the while I was deteriorating into an even more depressed and anxious reclusive child, losing friends and and missing out on normal experiences. I felt like I was responsible for the survival of their relationship, above my own well-being I had to figure out how to save them from divorce, from splitting the family up. I never felt like I had the right to tell them I couldnât handle it. So I shoved everything down and became weirdly mature, too aware of the fact that I was an adult even if I didnât want to be. Now I have severe anxiety, depression, and PTSD and I canât even keep a job. Iâm 28. Donât do this to your kids. Please.

does it scare you that in less than 3 months itâll be 2014
Just because you did something wrong in the past doesnât mean you canât advocate against it now. It doesnât make you a hypocrite. You just grew. Donât let people use your past to invalidate your current mindset.
Bruh. This needs to be a mandatory post on everybodyâs blog. Y'all really be pullin out decade old receipts like woah.
I saw this thread on Twitter and itâs haunting. I just want to tell this story to every single person talking about âboth sides are just as bad.â
when you escape your abuser and they start acting nice it doesnât mean theyâve changed it just means youâve distanced yourself enough to see the side of them that people on the outside always saw
1. âWe need to talk.âwe havenât talked in forever, we eat our dinner in silence as we stare at the tv and pray to god it will suck us in and we will be new people and have no knowledge of the otherâs whereabouts because the left side of my bed will be kept warm by a girl who is beautiful even when she cries2. âWhere is this going?âi graduate college next year and i think i might apply to a job in seattle, but you still have 3 years here and my name is on the lease so i will swallow our arguments whole like a seed in an apple and cross my heart that it doesnât find the strength in my stomach and half eaten apologies to grow branches that will poke through my chest and make you aware of my true intentions3. âI never meant to hurt you.âi had no idea you were so fragile, i didnât know that i had to craft a cast out of my love for the broken bones that you obtained before we even met, i expected you to fly when i threw you from the moon but you sank slowly as the dawn broke and i can hear you cry softly under the cover of the stars when you think i am asleep4. âYouâre not the person I fell in love with.âyouâre not a person anymore, this pain has made a home out of you and the mat at the door reads âenter if you dareâ because your walls refuse to crumble and your blood reminds me much of the leaky faucet at my first home as it pools on the floor beneath your decaying body. you were never what my buddies and i would call a âfixer-upperâ over beers, so i should not have treated you as such. i could never fix you, this project is over5. âItâs not you, itâs me.âthis was my decision, not yours. i cannot think of a reason to stay because the circulation in my hands is growing worse every time my fingers ghost over your cold skin. you are stripping me of my light and leaving it on the bedroom floor for me to collect in the morning, and this is my fault because i let a stray dog follow me home one night and expected it to trust me6. âThis is hard for me, too.âthere is nothing more painful than giving up on the one thing that consumed your being for 9 months, 10 if weâre counting the time i got drunk and found myself on your porch wanting to crawl inside your bed and your body and unlock the cage around your heart so that i could stitch up the tattered piece of flesh and love you in all the places you tried to destroy. now i am not a doctor but my homemade stitches are not the best and i feel that it would be best for you and i if you went to get your wrist checked out because i donât think iâll be around long enough to make sure it does not get infected7. âIâm so sorry.âyour hair is on fire and i cannot be your ocean, i have to be my own and i am sorry that i could not love you more than myself, iâm sorry that you could not love yourself more than you loved me8. âSo, itâs really over.âitâs been over9. âTell me youâre going to be okay.âi never stopped caring about you and your well being, so promise me that you will not forget how to swim when you find yourself at the bottom of the ocean again. i picture your cold body on the floor where i tried to bring you back from the dead but you were too far gone from before i even walked through the door, and the possibility of seeing your name in the newspaper almost makes me want to stay but i cannot continue plugging up this hole in my life with the desire to be a hero, and i am sorry but i have to focus on myself now and you have to learn how to be alone and save yourself because i have lost too many nights to fear and i will not destroy myself for you. thereâs a weekâs worth of valium here, try not to take it all at once10. âCan I have my key back?âmy girlfriend is moving in and keys are pretty expensive to replace
what you said and what you meant (via sorryish)
So sweet
I donât know if youâve actually seen this episode, but Pam invites the entire office to her art show that sheâs been gearing up for for a really long time. Nobody shows up except for Oscar and his partner (and they critique her work, calling her âlacking in courageâ among other things, not realizing she is standing right behind them) and then Michael. And Michael is the only one who tells her she is great just for putting herself out there, and the only one who places value on what sheâs done, and he points out all the little details she got right and notices absolutely every bit of hard work she put into it. And then treats Pam like the artist she is by not just paying her for her art, but displaying it where literally everyone can see it.
Itâs one of my favorite episodes.
Maui is not obese
Maui is a powerful demigod. Big and strong and⊠oh, you think he looks fat?
Thatâs probably because youâve been conditioned by the media to accept this
as what strong and fit looks like. Amiright?
Sadly⊠these guys are not all that strong. Yeah, they got muscles⊠but they arenât built in a useful way. They are built for looks and thatâs about it.
ThisâŠÂ
is a strong guy. Actually a competitor in the Strongman competition. But⊠his tummy sticks out and he doesnât look like a Dorito.Â
You know who else is strong?
These guysâŠ
And MauiâŠ
Look at those arms, omg. And that solid, sturdy torso. You can see a shadow where his meat covers his ribs, but he doesnât look like any slouch to me.
And this guyâŠ
Thatâs Dwayne Johnsonâs grandfather. When the Disney animators showed him their sketches of Maui, he pulled out a picture of his grandfather and showed it to them because he was amazed how similar they looked. This dude was also a pro wrestler.
Thereâs actually a great infographic about ab muscles and stuff over HERE. but this is the part i want to show you.
Now⊠look at Maui again.
That thickness donât move like fat. It doesnât jiggle and heâs able to flex it. Look at how it sits on his body. It doesnât sag⊠he doesnât have a gut. Thereâs even a slight V shape to his torso.
Itâs just big and not âdefinedâ.
And people arenât used to that.
(sorry, this isnât the most organized post⊠i kinda just let it all spill out)
WHY DOES TH E DEER HAVE A DEFENSIVE STANCE IM
That deer was solid af last year in the college ranks.
