I’ve been trying to move on for a long time. To pretend I was okay for years and now I can’t. Too much has happened and in many ways I mourn what never was

I’ve been angry so long I didn’t realize I was grieving. I knew you could grieve people but not circumstances and situations. I didn’t know you could grieve past versions of yourself either

Sometimes I come back here because I honestly miss the person I used to be. I was very idealistic and believed the world could be better despite it proving to me it wouldn’t be time and time again. I also believed progressive spaces actually existed and now I feel like most of these leftist/progressive/liberal spaces are just full of infighting, faking, and circle jerking the common opinion.

#I’m just over it all tbh #I’m ready to move on with my life after finding out so much of it was just fake #and not worth my time.

I’m personally saying this to all my Muslim followers/anyone who sees this. You do not have to out yourself to make the community who openly feels your identity shouldn’t exist within thiers or will fetishize you until you have no use to them socially feel comfortable.

You don’t have to prove anything to anyone. I wish I could tell my younger self that.

#I think of this post all the time #because identifying as openly queer and Muslim quite literally destroyed my life #most queer spaces specifically for white people with the same experience and background #if you are significantly different than that and don’t worship whiteness the space will see you as threat #when i identified as nonbinary I remember people aggressively telling me I should be using they/them or just misgendering me because that’s #what made them comfortable #because although I was Muslim I didn’t cry to them about my /oppressive/ culture and faith #that somehow threatened them #because in LGBT+ spaces you always have to center whiteness.#always and I’m sick of people acting like that isn’t the case.#I recently came out to my mother who I have a ton of problems with. she’s black and Muslim and she sat in shock when I told her just how #much I went through in these spaces.#she literally told me to go to therapy….shes old she doesn’t even believe in therapy #what really broke me out of openly identifying as queer is when I was in another ‘progressive’ and queer place and I realized how fake #everyone was. it made me realize as much as queer people say being straight is a performance so is a lot of people’s queer identity #what made me realize that was this person I knew who was happily married for years to their husband tell me that he was. boring and they #wished he was a woman so they could be more queer because he happened to be straight….mind you #married for 20 years. with kids. but because the husband no longer fit the image they wanted to give off of being this radical queer person #they wanted to toss him. if you regret your partner leave them.#but it made me realize as a person who was openly queer just how common I had been harassed by yt gays for appearing ‘straight’ and I realiz #oh. ‘because you’re performing who you are and I’m not’ in that moment #this person was in their 50s. was happy in their marriage and hung around me (black/queer/muslim) because they wanted to feel revolutionary #not because they valued me as a person.#I’ve never forgotten that.#so if you’re Muslim African any SWANA group #don’t ever feel you have to be out. because that’s what’s awaiting you.#people who will ostracize you or out you to your families because it gives them a sense of power they know how homophobic our community can #be or people who will fetishize you until you don’t have a use for them anymore and they don’t feel the need to be accepting #it is in fact this grim. it’s not worth it being in any group of white people or group that centers whiteness’ hands.
