Please check it out and vote here [X] !!
THANK YOU!!
No, I mean every. day. of. your. life. you should be saving everything that you want to keep to your own computer.
You think that the 17th is the first and last day that any of us will ever have to worry about content being purged? Do you think that porn blogs are the only people online who have ever been displaced, with or without a warning?
The internet is fun, and your phone delivers dopamine hits to you around the clock, but don’t count on these things to take care of you, or the things you create, or the people that you want to stay in touch with.
Everything you ever want to see again, and any information that you need to have, should be on your hard drive at home, and also in an offsite location. Anyone who doesn’t comprehend this, well, I wish I had the kind of luck you’ve clearly had in life.
Monkeys can learn to use money. Capuchins that were taught to exchange silver discs for treats began budgeting for foods they liked, buying more of something when the price dropped, and started gambling. Eventually, there was an incident where ‘money’ was stolen, and the rich monkeys even figured out they could pay each other for sex. Source Source 2
The love of money is the root of all evil….
now why did we go and ruin some perfectly good monkeys
“tall/small couples are problematic because there’s a power imbalance” is NOT one of the cold takes i expected to see at the end of 2018, and YET,
*breaking up with my s.o.* it’s not you, it’s just you’re 6'4" and tumblr told me that means our relationship is unhealthy,
*your s.o. has a bigger hand that yours* theres a power imbalance here im pretty sure
i don't really understand why you would be pro-zoo. like i understand nature reserves and sanctuaries where people can observe from afar, but it doesn't seem right to me when they're locked up in generally small confined areas for people to watch them do nothing all day. idk maybe i'm getting this wrong, and i still really respect you, i just don't understand this. like i interned at a zoo and felt uncomfortable with how small their living areas were and how they had no stimulation
Zoos don’t look like this anymore.
They look like this:
Good zoos do not keep their animals in “tiny spaces” with no enrichment. I’m not pro-roadside zoo. I’m pro-accredited zoo. Zoos are incredibly important for conservation and education.
Are Zoos Necessary?
The Importance of Zoos: Resource Post
Why Zoos and Aquariums Matter: Assessing the Impact of a Visit to a Zoo or Aquarium
Why I Want to be a Keeper
Why I Believe in Zoos
There should be way more pictures of modern zoos so i just add some more
Seriously zoos do so much important conservation work as well I hate when people shit all over zoos as if the animals are locked up and not looked after
The SF Zoo has two sea lions. Now, if you know SF, you know that sea lions are a Thing. They’re all over Pier 39 and various other beaches in N California. In fact, the zoo is near the ocean, so there are sea lions not 200 yards from the zoo entrance. So having sea lions in the zoo seems sort of superfluous.
Except the sea lions are blind. One was found as an adult after suffering a gun shot wound to the face that destroyed his eyes. The other was found as an adolescent, weak and starving because it had been blinded and unable to hunt. So they were rescued and introduced and the zoo built them a nice pool where they can swim and sunbathe and people toss them fish. It’s not the biggest exhibit, or the fanciest. But it’s a home for them, where they’re safe and well fed. Sea lions aren’t the most romantic of animals, but they’re a part of SF culture and a lot of us have a soft spot for the loud, bulbous things. And because of zoos, these two get to live long, happy lives.
Whenever anyone complains about zoos, I think about Silent Knight and Henry.
I think it’s St. Louis zoo that is saving big cats in Africa. Scientists couldn’t figure out what was killing off the local lion population. They were dying off from Canine Distemper. The local unvaccinated dogs of the towns would spread the disease to other animals or have it themselves. When the lions ate the infected animals they would catch it as well. You know what that Zoo is doing to stop this disease? They are going over to those towns and vaccinating the dogs for free. The community loves it and people from other villages comes for miles to get their dogs vaccinated as well.
They also do work with camel populations because the local human population use the camels for food sources the zoos help monitor the camels health.
Another zoo, I want to say it’s the Oregon zoo but don’t quote me on that, is helping female inmates. The zoo works with the female prisons by encouraging the inmates to assist in the breeding and raising of endangered species of butterflies. They plant the specific plants that the butterflies and catapillars need, raise them, and release them. These inmates get noted in any scientific journals that get published. They are giving these inmates a sense of accomplishment and validation.
Zoos not only save species but bring together and assist communities in an effort to save the environment. Zoos, good zoos, are essential to the future and I will fight anyone who tries to say otherwise.
PS you don’t see PETA doing any of this.
“maybe this way the sallon will accept it, monsieur Manet”
GUYS I FOUND A LOOPHOLE IN THE SYSTEM
So, there really was a huge controversy over Olympia (this painting) being indecent when it was displayed for the first time, but the problem was NOT her undoubtedly female-presenting nipples (or her legs, or anything else about her naked body). It was, in fact, the way she’s looking straight back at the viewer without any coyness, and the fact that various details in the painting including the black ribbon around her neck, her bracelet and earrings, the black cat (not visible in this picture) and the orchid in her hair marked her as a successful courtesan or prostitute of the contemporary era. If Manet had left the pretense that she was a figure from ancient history or mythology he could have gotten away with entering the painting into the salon without any trouble, but the fact that she was bold, independent and contemporary was what really drove people insane about this painting.
So the fact that we’ve come all the way back around to being scandalized by one of the parts of this painting that WASN’T scandalous in the 1860s is pretty goddamned hilarious.
Also, I just learned (in fact-checking my memory of this anecdote, since art history was a long time ago) that the model in this painting, Victorine Meurent, later became a painter in her own right.
strong girl!!
So many people here, all talking at once. How does anyone think?

not to start discourse, but everyone calling catra a furry needs a lesson in what qualifies as a furry
Furry
Furries
See the difference? Catra is actually something more sinister:
A performer from an Andrew Lloyd Weber musical.
What’s interesting to me as an Old, who went through Strikethrough on LJ, is seeing how it’s being remembered now in the Discourse here on Tumblr. I’m seeing a bunch of “it was a lot of people who wanted to post child porn” and ok yes that is certainly a take one could have. I’m also seeing “fandom should police itself!” and again, yes, that is certainly a take.
Pull up a chair, friends, let’s discuss.
What people forget about Strikethrough is that while fandom was Loud As Fuck and also, yes, ridiculous (I thought so at the time for that matter I mean COME THE FUCK ON there was a theme song) and possibly the most widely affected group of people, fandom was not the most *profoundly* affected group of people. See, LJ was working off a list of journals handed to them by the group “Warriors For Innocence” who as far as anyone could tell just kinda…searched for some words? And let me tell you, friends, WfI did not distinguish between Harry Potter fanfic that involved Dumbledore and Harry in compromising positions and communities of child sexual abuse survivors. Those second communities? They got shut down, too. So did communities of sexual assault survivors, because one of the words that got targeted was “rape”.
It’s just that the communities of survivors did not have a theme song and icon sets and of course it’s not nearly as ~funny~ and ~woke~ for y’all to have your hot takes about how AO3 and DreamWidth were founded by a bunch of people angry their child porn got taken away when you factor in that survivors were getting hit, too. Kinda like Tumblr is protecting the children now but it’s harming eg sex workers who are following the rules.
None of the communities I was in got lost because of fandom. No, the community I was in that got deleted was sexual assault survivors. Where we were all trying to come to terms with what had happened to us and suddenly, boom, we were told that having “sexual assault” and “rape” in the community interests so that survivors could even find the place was *soliciting illegal activity*. Yeah. That was fun.
As for fandom policing itself, what exactly do people intend by that? Fandom has always had lengthy discussions about what’s acceptable, they were going on in 2007 around Strikethrough. At great and interminable and occasionally kind of nauseating length. One thing we’ve learned in the past 11 years though is that if you provide a reporting mechanism on a platform, it will immediately be weaponized to silence marginalized voices; cf the fash pulling their brigading on Twitter. People have always spoken up and said “that is really not ok” and others have always responded “we disagree” and the arguments have gone on and on and on and the only thing we’ve learned is that asking for platforms to give us a mechanism to report things ends up being weaponized to hurt people who don’t have a damn thing to do with the problem we’re trying to control.
All I really have for everyone for whom Tumblr’s TOS change is their first experience with this kind of thing is hey, listen, the *actual* history is important. Not what you think you know, not the hot takes and the super woke one sentence versions going around – know what actually went down when LJ pulled this shit, and who got hurt the worst by it. Because it wasn’t the Supernatural and Harry Potter fandoms, even though they were the ones being extremely loud and quoting “Hoist the Colors” and making banners and icons (it was a different time, ok). “Protect the children” as a motto will always be used in such a way that it will hurt people who are already marginalized and vulnerable and hurting, we’ve seen it before and we’re seeing it again and already we’re seeing the hot takes about how it’s perfectly acceptable because what’s wrong with you, do you want child porn?
And that’s why all of us who were around for Strikethrough and, for that matter, the actual birth of Tumblr, are tired. We’ve been here before. We’ve heard it all before, word for word. We know who’s going to get hurt, again. We wish people would freakin learn.
And the fucking people that tumblr is supposedly taking down, the child porn posters, the porn bots? They’re still running fucking rampant! LGBT stuff is being flagged, a post calling out a CP poster was flagged but not the CP poster themself!
Tumblr didn’t even block the white supremacy tags until the media picked that up too! Tumblr claims they’re making their website a safer environment, but their bot is shite, then when people appeal, half the time the staff looking over the appeals arn’t even following their own rules! They STATED that historical art/statues won’t be considered explicit, but then it gets flagged and when people ask tumblr to remove the flagging, tumblr says “No, that is explicit”
i watched she-ra and i love it
just ur average lesbian lesbianing around
I hope the best for Catra and her 8 foot tall woman with a sword.
PLease they hurt me so much.
