Sawfish are sometimes called “carpenter sharks”, but they are actually members of the ray family. They are among the world’s largest fish, with some species reaching up to 25 feet in length. Their most recognisable feature is, of course, the long, flattened, tooth-lined rostrum protruding from their face.
post more paleontology memes
HECK YEAH
Paleontology amd zoology memes are the best
Theyre all good girls
granular, slope snouted and white spotted glass frogs, which, thanks to their nocturnal habits and translucent skin (featured here), are quite photogenic at night. but given that most are only a few centimetres in length, they’re hard to find. it’s also worth noting that unlike a tree frog, whose eyes are on the side of its head, glass frogs have forward facing eyes. many species of glass frog, like the granular, are endangered. It was kind of a dick move to create animals that require air, then confine them to the freaking ocean
If you are talking about dolphins they used to be wolf like creatures that due to scarcity of food they had to hunt in water so they slowly evolved into water mammals, dolphins still have claw bones but they are unnecessary and dolphins will get rid of them with time and will develop abilities to breath under water
(This also partially applies to whales)
They were what now?
Mother Nature, come out here I just want to talk
Whales are actually Ungulates, more so hippos, entelodons, etc…
Meaning they were somewhat related to big celebrities such as Daedon (the “hell pig”) and Andrewsarchus.
The appearence of the first ancestors of whales probably looked like a small hoofed thing called Indohyus.

Basically they went from tiny hoofed herbivore to bigger hoofed carnivore to crocodile-like thing to seal-like things to big sea predators.
It’s important to mention that we now know dolphins will probably never need to develop true water breathing, because the fact that they breathe air from the surface is actually an ADVANTAGE for them. They get more oxygen at once than an animal with gills and it permits a much higher, more energized activity level for longer periods of time. They are murderous monsters empowered by their access to the forbidden air
This my bebe. Bebe is bigger than me. Strong bebe

Now You Know (Source)
NOW I CAN BE A TRUE MERMAID
I actually did a report on this last year! The substance is called perfluorocarbon and because of its unique nature, it can hold enough oxygen inside of it for you to breathe it. You can breathe safely while inside it, but sometimes the transition from breathing in the perfluorocarbon and the air can be painful or uncomfortable as your lungs try to push the liquid out of them. In Dan Brown’s book The Lost Symbol, the process of reverting back to breathing the air can feel like being birthed.
thank you friend
how the fuck do they know what being birthed feels like
FACT:
This liquid is used in modern torture. It is similar to water boarding. A victim is placed in a small completely dark box. The box is then filled with the liquid. The victim thinks they are drowning as they breath the liquid in. Most pass out from fear at this point or they just sit there in the liquid in pitch black, apparently breathing ‘water’. Often it leads to the thought that they are in fact dead. It is completely terrifying. Then the box is opened and they are violently pulled from it. As said before the transition from liquid to air is none too pleasant. You might be told something like, they resuscitated you and to tell them what you know or they will “drown” you again.
You can “drown” someone and be sure that they won’t be harmed
You all needed to know this.
holy shit
That went from cool to horrifying is 0.05 seconds
Holy shit
Been to the “Haus des Meeres” yesterday in Vienna. Its a big aquarium that is located inside an old World War 2 flak towers, those were used by the Luftwaffe to defend against Allied air raids against their cities. They also served as air-raid shelters for tens of thousands of local civilians.
Went to the Vienna Zoo today, its considered one of the if not the best zoo of europe and i can say its certainly one of the best but its not my fabsolute avourite, since there are zoos i like more for personal reasons but nontheless if you can go definitely check it out, its a very beautiful park.
Hey I’ve been there too! One thing I liked was how they had some of the old “historical” cages left standing with bronze statues inside - really shows how far zoos have come
Yeah a took a picture of my gf in it its really neat^^
