I need your advice.... so I have a crush on a guy I work with and we went on two dates the problem isn't that he's a creep he's actually very respectful snd he mskes me laugh but he is very distant he did confide in me that he's bipolar so he's very inconsistent that's besides the point so Friday we went to see evil dead burn and everything was fine but during the movie he was getting texts from his over bearing controling mom mind you hes 32... I was very annoyed and he tried to Apologize but I kinda like ignored him and continued to watch the movie while secretly fuming from him being on his phone lol by the end of the movie the vibe had just completely gone to shit we haven't spoken since (I'm on vacation so haven't been at work to even see him) its monday no texts nothing there's another guy thats crazy about me and I think I'm gonna give em a shot I just don't know how to easily break it to the work guy I also without saying to much about his personal situation understand the overbearing abusive mom thing so I kinda have this feeling of like giving him time to show up for me and stuff but at the same time my healed higher self who survived parental abuse from my own mother is screaming leave him because he's not ready to be on my level of free and healed so... what do you think girly pop!?

I have also had a bipolar boo thing in the past (and also have a friend with bipolar disorder under the thumb of their overbearing mother)! We were vaguely friends who met through work/school and then started seeing each other (read: sleeping together). I really cared for him but he was also quite distant and could be inconsistent. Pretty early on he told me that he suffered from bipolar disorder (as well as PTSD from previous military service) but even then, I didn't realize what that could mean for us as two people relating to each other, even in those early stages of are we or aren't we?

We were off and on for several months and he would disappear and then come back and sometimes he would even leave my place in the middle of our dates or in the middle of the night and I would take it to heart because I was almost a decade younger than I am now. We ended up getting back together super briefly a few years later and he confided in me that at one point when he just disappeared, he had actually had a really difficult time with a bout of depression that saw him hospitalized. I also saw him be manic without understanding what that meant. All I knew was that he would be in a great mood and I might feel like it was love and I was finally the center of his universe....and then he'd be gone.

I've had this happen similarly with my friend but the difference is that she cares enough/is usually in a good enough mental space to talk to communicate with me more openly than he did.

So I say all of this to say that it can be an absolutely beautiful reaction to someone else's pain to immediately give them grace and empathize - HOWEVER, it is not your place to heal him or feel guilty. Unfortunately bipolar disorder tends to lead to a person who is unpredictable and it's not their fault. You can know he has bipolar disorder and an overbearing mother who will be a part of the equation until kingdom comes or she passes (whichever comes first) but you can't be Captain Save a Hoe for someone who doesn't want to be saved.

I advise that you can check in if you want and you feel you're able to do that without stretching yourself too thin or going crazy or taking it to heart but you should also continue to live your life. You should know that it's fair to feel annoyed and put out and turned off and ignored. Like you said, you have healed and that's fair. I also got to a point where I healed and it felt like more trouble than it was worth to try to be available and care for someone who couldn't care for me in the same way.

Healing for me was about protecting and respecting what I had fixed within myself because my time and my attention span is finite and even if my heart is elastic, it still deserves to be loved and taken care of.

You don't need to set yourself back or put yourself out for someone who is not in a place to reciprocate. Because you deserve reciprocation! You're not denying him his trauma or pain or difficulties or unfortunate mental illness but your bottom line is to yourself at the end of the day. If he's not communicating with you, you don't have to say anything. You're not promised to each other! You can date freely and be upfront if he asks or it becomes necessary.

Which to me just sounds like people infantilizing Mike instead of assuming Mike is a grown man who met her, befriended her because she's also a grown woman in the same industry, and then maybe later down the line made his own decision to date her (if that even is what's happening between them but I personally doubt it).

Either way, this doesn't really change my opinion of him! It doesn't seem like he's ever misrepresented himself. So I have a friend from Columbus and Gahanna is a snobby rich neighborhood. Idk where everyone got mikr being from a middle class family from lol

Interesting! I heard that Gahanna was a more residential area outside of Columbus but I didn't realize it was an affluent area. The idea of Mike being middle class may come from his general air of modesty and how humble he is and the fact that his parents - from what I've read - owned their own business so they were working rather than just being generationally wealthy.

Also Mike talked about moving to NY as a teen and living off of food stamps and the meager pay from his PT jobs so even if his parents live in a nice area, he wasn't being put up on their dime and has had to work for his life and career (it looks like to me at least). Now I know there's also been the mention of his involvement in real estate and buying properties to renovate on the side which is how he's able to be more discerning as an actor without being tied to the need for acting money but idk if that's independent of or connected to his family's previous real estate/contracting/whatever business.

She's older, she's been married before, she's not a iPhone faced young baddie dripped out in designer clothes, and she doesn't fit the Hollywood adjacent standard of beauty. She's just a plain looking woman living a normal adult life and I think many people are stuck in their own Tumblr fantasy of Mike-as-Art-Donaldson with his barely legal babe girlfriend because many fans on Tumblr are barely legal babes themselves. Many people wouldn't be happy no matter who Mike is with because the ultimate fantasy is that it should be them.
