I went on a mini-vacation to Baltimore and DC (if you are in the DC area, I highly recommend checking out Queens of Egypt at the Nat Geo Museum!) and I meant to write this last week because I knew that I wasn’t going to do it on Monday night when I got back but you know that didn’t happen. I am so predictable.
So here I am! And now some of my favorite tropes!
I can guarantee to you, that if this is in a book I will read it.
I love a good, totally against the odds heist. Why do I love it? The thrill of the heist.
The group that is only together because it is the only way to get to a common goal. Bonus points if they become a found family.
Magical, Bloody, or Social. I enjoy it all.
I love villains that you can understand and actually sympathize with.
This usually applies to spaceships (a la Girl In Space) but I would also include blizzards and natural disasters. I love seeing how people get creative with the space around them to survive.
This is the friendship that is between two sisters or two girls that is so deep and meaningful. They can have fights but it would never stop them from loving each other.
Fairytale/Mythology Retellings
This one should be pretty obvious because I am obsessed with all things fairytales, mythology, and legends.
This one goes with “Sisterly Friendship” but it can be any singular person. This is the character that isn’t afraid to show emotions, show, weakness, or love. They are pure at heart.
Libraries, Characters who own bookstores, characters who just love books. I think this has to do with the fact of seeing myself reflected in them.
Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme by The Broke and The Bookish and is hosted by That Artsy Reader Girl.
