Description

The Rowdyruff boys are well known for being violent criminals and troublemakers, created to be enemies of the Powerpuff girls. Boomer is the middle of the three boys, and he is commonly used as the punching bag by Brick and Butch. Many assume Boomer to be the stupidest of the bunch, which may sometimes be true, but for the most part he’s just misunderstood! The blonde Rowdyruff spent his whole upbringing surrounded by mainly violence and chaos, but deep down he’s the sensitive one. For that reason, he’s the easiest target for his brothers to pick on, but he’s got thick skin and does his best to not let it get to him. The boys are also the rival band of the Powerpuff girls, with Boomer being the drummer. When he’s not able to get his aggression out through fighting, he’s able to instead let it out on his drums and music. When looking at the Rowdyruff boys songs, it’s easy to tell which songs were written by Boomer, focused on love and heartbreak but still complimented with heavy instrumentals. While Brick and Butch think that love is stupid, girly and overrated, Boomer has been long seeking for someone that understands him on a deeper level. So far he’s had nothing but bad luck when it comes to relationships, which has only resulted in hardening his heart. He hasn’t given up on love entirely of course, but he certainly has his guard up. Overall, Boomer has had to face a lot of struggles throughout his life, but he hasn’t let that completely beat him down. He may be sensitive, but he is strong, and anyone who thinks otherwise will be proven wrong one way or another.

Headcanons

Despite that the Powerpuff girls are their enemies, Boomer actually did have a thing with Bubbles at some point, one of his exes who wasn’t over her own ex. It started as shared glances and finding each other cute at first, but eventually turned into hooking up and dating. Though it was Bubbles who wanted to keep it casual, Boomer couldn’t help that he began to fall for her. She was sweet and cute and seemed to understand him like no one else did, but Boomer was clearly in over his head. Bubbles was his first heartbreak, and now they’re back to enemies, their fights feeling a little more personal than they used to.

He has a personal beef with Morty Fields after their two mutual exes broke his heart, both hung up on him and using Boomer in an attempt to get over him. The cherry on top? Both ended up back to Morty after Boomer — Millie hooking up with him after cheating on Boomer with Brick, and Bubbles eventually dating Morty again. In a way, Boomer should blame himself, dating the guy's exes and taking the risk that they may not be ready to move on, but Boomer can’t help but point the finger and find someone else to blame. It wasn’t like he purposely sought out Morty’s exes, after all. He honestly thought that the girls wanted to be with him, and who could blame him for genuinely believing that?

After the Millie and Brick situation, Boomer can’t help but have trust issues with his brothers now. He’s made a mental promise to himself that if and when he does start dating again, he’s gonna make sure to keep an extra close eye on his brothers, and keep his future partner away from them, if possible.

Boomer’s more of a troublemaker with his brothers’ influence than on his own. He’s much less of a threat solo, unless it’s personal and you’ve struck a nerve with him.

Because Boomer knows he’s seen as the stupidest Rowdyruff boy, sometimes he uses that to his benefit, playing stupid to get out of things or to be sneaky and get what he wants.

Melody was unsure on what to do. It was shocking enough to find out that she hardly knew about her sisters relationship with the Rowdyruff, but now she was aware of how things ended between them and how clearly hurt the blonde was by her sisters actions. She wished she had known about the two sooner, maybe then she would know of a better way to make things up to Boomer. Or at the very least, she could defend Millie’s actions better. Although, regardless of what she were to say, it truly doesn’t justify her twin in cheating on him. 

As he confirmed what she already assumed, the model still sighed. “I’m sorry she hurt you.” Melody decided to apologize once again. If there was nothing she could do to make up for her sisters wrong doings, then the least she could do is continue to apologize for it, especially when knowing that Millie most likely wouldn’t do so anytime soon. If she was apologetic at all. “I’m sorry for not knowing about this sooner either because if I had…..” She trailed off, only to half-heartedly shrugged. Melody has not been back in the isle in so long, even if she had been told about any of this sooner, what difference would that have made? Nothing most likely. Or perhaps, she could’ve influenced her sister from not cheating if she had known, or perhaps it would’ve still occurred. Who knows. 

Not feeling right in leaving things this way but still unsure of what to do, her phone suddenly light up, distracting her. Breaking her gaze, Melody saw her twins name flash on her screen, causing her to faintly smile. “I need to go.” She announced, looking back up at Boomer after reading her sisters message. Though she made no movement to go “You sure there isn’t anything I can do? Can I get you a drink or something before I go?"

Boomer wished he had kept his mouth shut in the first place instead of opening up about his stupid feelings to the wrong twin. They could’ve avoided a lot of awkwardness that way, but it was far too late to change that. He also wished he could say it was a pleasure meeting her, but all this informal introduction did was make him learn more about Millie and her lack of feelings for him, though none of that was Melody’s fault. No, she just happened to get caught up in the messiness after it already passed. 

Boomer shrugged half-heartedly similarly to Melody a moment later. Neither of them had the words to try and make this better. None of the what if’s mattered in the grand scheme of things. Instead, they had to deal with the cleanup that Millie had avoided handling herself. He actually felt bad for Melody, especially seeing how kind and genuine she appeared to be. Did Millie take advantage of Melody’s kindness, like she took advantage of Boomer’s naivety?

As if on cue, Millie texted her twin, interrupting the slightly uncomfortable conversation between Melody and Boomer. Melody still insisted on trying to help him, even though she needed to leave and he’d already turned down the offer once. She really felt that bad for him. The last thing Boomer needed was a pity drink. He shook his head, then nodded toward her phone. “You’re clearly busy. I won’t hold you up.” He held up a hand as if to silently reassure her that he’d be alright, taking a few steps backward to begin leaving. “Uh… see you around, I guess? Maybe?” He left it at that, turning around and walking away in embarrassment.

As soon as she agreed to leaving with him, the model found herself being taken within his arms as Boomer stood up. Gasping, she wrapped her own arms around his shoulders as to steady herself, only for the blonde to then start moving towards the direction of the clubs exit. Though her gaze was still rather glossed, Melody’s eyes widened a tad as she glanced around, taking note of his haste as they moved until the pair was finally outside of the club. The cold air had then hit her exposed skin, causing the ravenette to shiver within his arms— her jacket had been left back with her colleagues, but it was much too late for her to go back for it now. Instead, she huddled closer to him for warmth just as he questioned if she had a fear of heights.

Confused, she glanced back up at Boomer, only to then shake her head in response. It has yet to dawn to Melody exactly what he meant by that, having not yet put two and two together on who the blonde actually was. She hasn't realized that he wasn’t just an ex of her twin, but rather also a super-powered being. One who in which has taken part in fighting against her own friends during countless occasions— a fact in which she should remembering. And yet her mind was still so hazy to consider any of that. Essentially, Melody has yet to realize that Boomer could hurt her if he wanted to, but none of his intentions at the moment felt like he would. “I’m not afraid.”

Despite how loud it was in the club, Boomer still heard the surprised gasp that escaped Melody’s lips as he carried her out. His grip tightened around her softly, a silent way of saying I’ve got you. He hadn’t thought about how cold it would be outside until he felt her shiver in his arms. If he wanted to offer his jacket, he’d have to put her down… he’d just have to make this trip quick. He had yet to figure out where to take her, though. Going to her and Millie’s place would be extremely awkward, and bringing her to his place would be risking his brothers seeing them… he’d have to improvise.

I’m not afraid. Boomer kept his grasp on her firm as he took off in the air. He assumed she knew where he was going with that, assumed she knew exactly who he was based on her connections with not only Millie, but the Powerpuff Girls too. He flew above the island with Melody in his grasp, spotting a nearby motel and deciding he could easily get them a room there. “Still not afraid?” He asked as he flew toward the motel, not too fast but still feeling the cold wind against their faces.

“I’m sorry, okay?!” And there it was, his apology for hurting someone she cared so deeply about. And yet, hearing that apology did nothing to deter her anger, if anything, it fueled it. But oh, he didn’t stop there! Boomer had the audacity to continue and say that he still cared about her. Cared about her? Oh please! That was the unbelievable thing Bubbles ever heard him say to her. “No,” The blonde Powerpuff began as she slowly shook her head “You don’t get to say you still care about me.” She told him, immediately rejecting that claim. "Not anymore.” Her expression darken even more, just as her following words spewed out with straight venom “Not ever!” 

Boomer just didn’t get it. He could not claim to still care, and then go ahead and try to hurt someone he knew she cared about. Things did not work that way! Even if he believed that she didn’t care about him anymore, that still never gave him the green light to attack someone else! And at this point, it wasn’t even the fact that it had been Morty the Rowdyruff had decided to attack, Bubbles would’ve still be as pissed off at him if Boomer had decided to go after someone else she cared about. And oh but he still did! Verbally insulting Millie and claiming her as a slut because she also broke his heart, and then pinning all the blame onto Morty because he happened to be the one both girls decided they wanted to be with? Because he was the one they choose over Boomer. 

“You know, I always felt bad for hurting you the way I did.” Bubbles then uttered, her fist slowly unclenching from the tight grip she had. “For weeks, I felt guilty over knowing that you tried to be vulnerable with me and confess how you actually felt about me, only for me to shut it down the way I did before leaving you. I felt sooo terrible about it, I was even very close to texting you and seeing if I could apologize for it. But then luck has it, my sisters and I happened to come across both you and your brothers, and our eyes connected and I knew. You hated me.” She claimed, slowly making her way towards the Rowdyruff. “You hated me because I broke your heart, and you know what? I understood. You were right to. I hurt you— So why wouldn’t you want to hurt me in return?” A laugh devoid of any emotion escaped her lips as soon as Bubbles found herself standing before Boomer. “And hurting Morty would be the perfect way to do that, wouldn’t it?”

Once again, she gave an emotionless laugh. He gave her the consent to fight him without him fighting back, but oh Bubbles did not care on whether or not Boomer didn’t or did. “Don’t think that not being mortal makes you lucky because I don’t just want to get even,” Hands gripping onto his shirt, without much of a second thought, the Powerpuff tossed the Rowdyruff up into the air before shooting up and kicking him down to the ground with a loud thud. “I want you to suffer for what you did!"

Bubbles’ anger became more apparent by the second, reminding Boomer how stupid it was for him to come here in the first place. He was trying to clean up a mess he started, but instead the Rowdyruff boy was saying all the wrong things and making everything worse. Boomer never had to handle a situation like this before, so it made sense that he was clueless about what to say or do. His lack of fear moments ago started to fade as he heard the blonde’s emotionless laugh. He’d fought against her and the other Powerpuff girls so many times before, but this may have been the angriest he’d ever seen her.

Boomer’s feelings around Bubbles had been complicated since day one — confusing. He was reminded of this as he listened to Bubbles; from the beginning, he was supposed to hate her but liked her instead, then he did grow to hate her after getting heartbroken, yet he still had feelings for her deep down... It was never simple, or had ever worked in his favor. It was a sign from the universe that he and Bubbles were never meant to be, but Boomer was clueless and ignored obvious signs until they were thrown at his face and he was forced to face them. 

He watched as the blonde clenched and unclenched her fist, mistakenly thinking he was off the hook when her fist unclenched until she was gripping his shirt and throwing him. I want you to suffer for what you did. He slammed against the concrete — oh, he was going to suffer alright, there was no doubt in his mind. Although he knew he deserved it too, he also knew it was going to be difficult not to fight back. The Rowdyruff boys always fought back against the girls, it was what they were designed to do. Instead of fighting back though, he stayed on the ground where he landed. Boomer tried to be honest, even though attempting to defend himself was useless. “Hating you was the only way I knew how to cope…. which meant hating him too, especially after Millie..”

It seemed like Boomer was done talking about his doomed love life, choosing only to respond to Brick’s mention of the girl he was hooking up with lately—which suited the eldest Rowdyruff boy just fine. He was more than happy to talk about his own exploits. “Her name’s Ellie. She’s medium hot—kinda short, but that’s alright, I guess. Came to a couple of our shows and we’ve been hooking up since.” Brick didn’t think his brother was the sleeps-with-groupies type, so he continued on and tried to explain the vibe: “The kinda girl who likes bad boys but also wants to fix you, you know? Fun to play with. Probably has daddy issues.”

It was so easy to change the subject and get Brick to talk about his own recent adventures with women — his brother obviously liked to be the center of attention, so Boomer let him be with no questions asked. Perhaps hearing about Brick’s love life (or sex life more like) would help Boomer stop making the stupid mistakes he’d been making and be more like his brothers instead. The reality was that getting advice from his brother and following his footsteps probably wasn’t the smartest idea either, but he was a Rowdyruff boy — it was all he really knew.

He could recall seeing Brick talking to a girl after a few of their shows, nodding as he listened. His brother was obviously not super interested in her but liked the attention regardless. Boomer wondered how long it would last before this Ellie grew tired of trying to fix him, or Brick got tired of playing around with her. “Sounds like your type,” he replied, his tone unserious. He was still glad to no longer be talking about his ex or her twin sister. “If she’s got a friend that's into drummers, let me know.”

She was acting out of instincts, or perhaps out of drunkenness— it could be either or but who knows. What was apparent right in this instance is that Melody had pressed a kiss against each single knuckle of his, directly on every bruise, until she reached the final one. Did she truly believed that kissing them would help the bruise heal? Most likely not. It was rather out of the ordinary for the model to even be doing such a bold act, and yet, here she was doing so. 

Once her lips had pressed against his final bruise, Melody pulled back. She then took the risk in glancing back at him, noticing how Boomer’s gaze had been torn away from her as he instead took another sip out of his flask. The blondes inability to match her gaze did not deter the model, however, as that instead presented the sight of the bruise he had on his cheek once again. She stared. Should she? 

It would be even bolder of her if she did. If kissing the back of his hand had already been so out of character for her, than surely going forth and kissing his bruised cheek would be abnormal. Especially when Melody has yet to know Boomer like that. He was her sister’s ex, yet one whom she hadn’t known about until recently. He should be a stranger to her—an enemy even—yet he wasn’t exactly that either. Even so, she continued to focus on his cheek, not yet uttering a single word but she didn’t need to for then the blonde suddenly asked if she wanted to get out of here. Melody blinked, not fully registering his words. She truly wasn’t thinking clearly—she must’ve drank more than she thought—for the older twin didn’t respond. Instead, she leaned forward and now pressed a soft kiss against his cheek, lips grazing so very close to his own. 

The kiss was as quick as it happened, and once she did it and pulled back, the model met his blue gaze. The smart thing to do is to go back to her co-workers. They must have been waiting for her this entire time. But the bar was still overly crowded, it would still take forever to gain any bartenders attention, and honestly, Melody didn’t even want to bother. Instead, as she held his gaze, she found herself nodding. “Yeah, I do.”

Distracted as Boomer sipped from the flask, he hadn’t noticed that Melody was now staring at the bruise on his face that reflected in the club lighting. His flushed cheeks from the warmth of the alcohol and the crowded bar probably made it stand out even more, but it was again something that Boomer had easily forgotten about. He was used to being covered in bruises from all the fights he’d been a part of over the years, this was nothing new. What he wasn’t used to was anyone showing concern for his injuries, first with the ones on his knuckles and now the ones on his face.

He wasn’t sure what to expect when he asked Melody if she wanted to get out of there, but her kissing his cheek so close to his lips certainly wasn’t what he had in mind. His heart was racing, and now he really wanted to get out of there... Was this for real? He could already feel himself wanting to be around the twin more... wanting more. Still, both his brothers' voices rang in his head about hooking up instead of actually dating. To stop focusing on his emotions so much. But how could he? How did they make it seem so easy?

He smiled as Melody surprisingly agreed, though maybe it shouldn’t have been that surprising based on the kisses she’d just given him. He knew that getting her out of this crowded area would be proven difficult with the way she’d already been stumbling just moments ago, but he was up to the task of getting her out of there in one piece. With Melody already in his lap, Boomer took it upon himself to wrap his arms around her as he stood up, practically scooping her up so he could carry her out the door. He ignored any stares they may have received as he pushed back other people in the club, waiting until they were outside in the cold before he asked, “… you’re not afraid of heights, are you?”

His brother was a real moron if he thought he could get sympathy from Butch. Boo-fucking-hoo, so Boomer’s love life fucking sucked, that was on him for actually wanting to date people and getting burned in the end for it. “You’re more than a pathetic dumbass, Boom— you’re a real fucking moron.” Butch oh so bluntly said, yet now that his laughter had finally died down, the younger of the two was staring at his brother with a bored look on his face. He didn’t really care much about Boomer’s love life; hell, he didn’t care about either of his brother’s love life if one wanted to even call whatever Brick was doing with that Elise girl an actual example of the redhead ‘dating’ someone. But for some strange reason the blonde was talking to him for advise, and if he wanted to hear what Butch had to say, than he wasn’t about to sugarcoat any of it. “So you suck at dating? So what! You should’ve done what me and Brick’s been doing this whole time—sleeping around, not dating.” Just uttering the word ‘dating’ had the younger already wanting to puke. “Or better yet, instead of falling for people like the real moron you are, don’t!”

Boomer had known from a young age that he never really had to make fun of himself when his brothers would be right there doing it for him. He felt shitty about himself? Well, his brothers would find a way to make him feel shittier, that was a fact. He’d been called a moron more times than he could ever keep track of, to the point where the word hardly even phased him anymore. Yeah, he was the dumbass brother, and he continued to prove himself worthy of that title. Butch’s advice didn’t really make him feel better — he didn’t purposely try and fall for people, it just happened…. Somehow, being the dumbass of the three also made him the sensitive one of the three. He didn’t ask to be like this. He didn’t really have an explanation for that though, not without a way for Butch to rag on him even more, so Boomer just sighed and changed the subject. He needed a distraction. “… I think I need to hit something. Wanna find some shit to fuck up?”

Melody tried her hardest to reassure Boomer that his relationship with her sister hadn’t been as insignificant as it may have seem. But even with her attempts to do so, it was clear to the both of them that Millie likely didn’t care for the blonde at all. If she had, the model would have already known who he was or at the very least, knew his name. But here the two of them were. Melody awkwardly smiled at him, having not the farthest idea on what else to say that could make this entire situation any better.

And it seemed like she didn’t need to, for the blonde confessed to what Millie had done. Hearing the words “she cheated on me” coming out of his mouth, Melody looked at him with shocked. “—She cheated?!” The model repeated, in disbelief. In hindsight, considering what she so far had learned about their past relationship, it would make sense this had been the outcome if her twin truly never felt so strongly for Boomer. But even if her relationship with him had been nothing more than as a distraction for a short period of time, Melody would have at least hoped that her sister would know better to break up with him rather than cheat on him. Yet, the way he stared at the ground after confessing what she had done before reaffirming that it may have been intentional that her sister never mentioned him to her before, she frowned.

“I’m so sorry, Boomer, I didn’t kn—” As she began to make her apology, Melody cut herself off before she could finish what she was about to stay. Instead, she ruefully smiled at him. “I’m sorry she did that to you.” Is what she merely decided to say. “I know there isn’t any excuse for Mille doing so or for how she treated you, but please know she’s not such a bad person.” Maybe her actions weren’t so great, and it was more likely that her twin had not been in the best mental state at the time she and Boomer dated, but that still didn’t excuse her sister from hurting him. “How can I make it up to you?”

Upon meeting Millie’s twin, it was a trip to see how different the two sisters were from one another despite being identical. Melody already seemed much more gentle and sweet just through this small interaction, but perhaps Boomer was just biased — he had an entirely different perspective on Millie after she’d cheated on him. He had considered her gentle and sweet too in the beginning, but that perspective had changed entirely. Still, Melody seemed much more caring about others feelings than her sister. 

She seemed shocked by the news of the cheating, which confirmed to Boomer that Millie probably kept this information from her sister for a reason. He nodded in confirmation, silence filling the space between the two as Melody was likely processing his words. He wondered if she planned to talk to her sister about this afterwards. 

As Melody began to apologize, he couldn’t help but notice the way she changed the phrasing of her words, as if it would make Boomer feel any better. Obviously she didn’t know. She even tried defending her sister, insisting she wasn’t a bad person, but Boomer found that hard to believe; his view on her was entirely jaded. On the other hand, it was unexpected of Melody to attempt to find a way to make it up to him. It once again showed how much different the two sisters were. “Huh?” He said at first, surprised by the question. “I… I don’t know.” He was suddenly at a loss, flattered by the offer but knowing that at the end of the day, there wasn’t really much Melody could do to make it better. “You don’t need to do anything,” he finally continued, shaking his head. “None of it was your fault. But … thanks.”

He thought things could be different between them, he says, causing the Powerpuff to scoff at him. Well he thought wrong. Just like she said, they were never serious. They were never meant to be serious. In fact, from the minute they got together, that was the number one boundary Bubbles made sure to make. She was okay with hooking up with him, and had even been fine with the two of them dating, but one thing Boomer couldn’t expect from her throughout their time together was for the blonde to ever give him her heart. 

Granted, she knew there was a risk when it came to being involved with a Rowdyruff boy of all people. Even if said Rowdyruff was the same one whom she always found to be cute since she and her sisters were little girls, and in many ways, was the least intimidating among the bunch. Boomer was her counterpart after all, created to be so much like Bubbles and yet meant to be the complete opposite of her at the same time. He was suppose to be violent and uncontrollable without a care in the world of who he hurts or how he does it. Not like her who wouldn’t dare to hurt a fly if she didn’t have to yet would knock down a 30 feet size monster down to the ground if it meant protecting her loved ones. And yet, if any of the three boys was safe enough to be with, it would be him— but the Powerpuff knew first hand how things can be deceiving. After all, he wasn’t the one who broke things off between them. It had been her. But that was because despite her boundaries and being clear with him on what she wanted, the blonde Rowdyruff still ended up falling for her.

Maybe that was a testament to Bubbles charm and how likable she was to make someone like Boomer to fall in love with her. But even if it was, she couldn’t give him what he wanted. “You should’ve thought differently then because it was never going to happen.” She replied, eyes narrowing at him. And why, one may ask, had she been so certain that he couldn’t make her stay? Because, the blonde got together with him during a time where her heart no longer was her’s to give away. Someone else already took claim of it, and though she had been left hurt and heartbroken at the time, Bubbles hadn't wanted to give her heart away to anyone else. Morty already claimed it and he was the only one who could keep it, so it had already been a lost battle for Boomer by the time she got together with him.

At the time Bubbles broke up with Boomer, she won’t deny, she had felt a bit guilty. Sure, he was a supervillain and breaking his heart shouldn’t make her feel bad (especially when she never expected him to fall for her in the first place), but he still had feelings like everyone else and being rejected by someone you were in love with would hurt anyone. Even him. But right now? There was not a single ounce of guilt within her as she stared back at the other blonde. In fact, hearing him explain why he attacked her boyfriend in the first place and how it didn’t make him feel any better only caused her to tight her fists even more. “Let me get this straight,” Bubbles began, taking in a deep breath as she tried to rationally take in everything he just said before she goes at him like she had wanted to the second she saw him. “You purposely attacked my boyfriend because you knew doing so would hurt me, yet after doing so and seeing me together with him, you realized it didn’t make you feel any better at all? And so now you’re here, trying to what? Get my forgiveness? Have me feel pity for you because I wasn’t happy being with you but also because my best friend who you also dated wasn’t happy with you either?!” She claimed, her voice raising to show just how pissed off and angry the Powerpuff was getting. So attacking Morty was all for nothing then? If all it took was for Boomer to see how Bubbles was with her boyfriend, he wouldn’t have hurt him the way he did? “He is a mortal! And all your attack did was put him in the hospital because you knew you were much stronger than him, and yet—” Oh Bubbles hated Boomer alright. She hated him more than ever for what he did to Morty.

The scoff that escaped the blonde's lips only made Boomer feel worse. Maybe coming here was a bad idea... A really terrible idea. There was a reason everyone treated him like he was the stupid one of his brothers, after all. Right now he felt the dumbest he’d ever felt his entire existence. He sighed in defeat. “I know that now…” he trailed off. Seeing Morty and Bubbles together briefly only solidified that for him. He had been naive then and he felt just as naive now, only currently his heart felt more heavy and full of shame than before. He wondered how different things would’ve played out between the two blondes, had he known then what he knows today.

Boomer noticed Bubbles’ fists tighten, her anger growing and hinting at where this conversation would be headed. He wasn’t scared of her despite that he probably should be — he knew he deserved any hits that may be coming his way soon. If his brothers were here to witness, they’d probably laugh at him and call him pathetic. He deserved that too. 

Bubbles' words caused the blonde Rowdyruff boy to shake his head. He wasn’t disagreeing with her, rather he just wasn’t sure what his end goal was. Maybe he was just a selfish asshole, only coming here for his own benefit and not thinking about Bubbles and her feelings. Why couldn’t he do anything right? He wanted to do something right for once, something good even though that completely contradicted what he was created for, but anything he did only seemed to piss her off even more. Perhaps he should stop trying to expect anything else.

“I don’t know what I’m trying to do here,” Boomer confessed. It was clear in his voice how lost and confused he was. He was completely out of his element. “I’m not trying to piss you off more, I’m trying to do the right thing here...” But maybe Boomer wasn’t capable of doing the right thing — maybe he was all wrong and it was just written in his DNA. But Bubbles didn’t care about any of that, not a single ounce of sympathy in her words or expression. He finally apologized out loud, his voice raising slightly to get her to listen to him above her own raised tone. “I’m sorry, okay?! I don’t know what else to say or do here. You don’t care about me, but I still care about you for some reason. I fucked up because I'm a fuck up, and if you wanna get even and put me in the hospital next,” he offered, his hands momentarily motioning to himself to give her the green light, “I won’t fight back. I’m not a mortal like him, but you are stronger than me.”

Hearing Boomer answer no to the question of whether he’d hook up with the other twin, Brick almost rolled his eyes. Trust Boom to make the lamest possible choice in a situation. But then he added an I don’t know, tacking on a comment about how the twin didn’t seem to be the hook-up type. Brick grinned devilishly. “Bet I could change that.” His smile dimmed after a moment and he shrugged the idea off as soon as he’d come up with it. “Nah, actually I’m messing with this one girl right now, and I’m not bored enough yet to screw with that. You should go for the twin, though. Revenge sex is the hottest.”

Boomer’s demeanor shifted momentarily as Brick grinned and attempted to insert himself into the situation — as if that had turned out great for them in the past. He couldn’t tell if his brother was serious or messing with him, but if it was a joke, Boomer didn’t find it amusing. Brick was quick to shrug it off though, assuming from the gesture that he didn't really mean it. Still, he couldn’t be too sure. Instead of thinking more about Brick’s words, ignoring the thought of revenge sex that he was putting into his mind, he was interested to hear more about who his brother was spending his time with. “Yeah? Who’s the girl?”

With the crowdedness of both the bar and the establishment as a whole, it was no wonder that eventually she would find herself stumbling once again. Only this time, it was due to being shoved by someone passing through. It all happened so suddenly for her— one second, the model had been using the blonde before her as a means to keeping her balance, and then the next, she found herself now sitting against his lap with his arm wrapped around her waist. Melody blinked.

She barely processed anything that happened, merely staring with vague confusion as Boomer tried to call out towards whoever had accidentally pushed her before calling that same person a “Dickhead" despite them being well away from earshot by now. It wasn’t until the blonde then redirected his attention back towards her is when the model snapped out of it. “Huh? Oh yes, I’m alright.” She replied, turning her head to look back at him. With this newfound position, they much closer now, her face just centimeters away from his. Oh, she blinked once again. 

Melody could see the bruise on his cheek much clearer now. So someone had hurt him then. The mark was still rather faint, as if whoever had done so wasn’t able to leave a lasting bruise, or maybe it had been long enough where it was already around ninety percent healed. But even once, once again she wondered— what happened? This time around, she opened her mouth to question, yet before any of it could be uttered, a newfound injury caught her attention. The bruises on his knuckles. Due to the busyness of the bar and the lack of attention either of them were still getting from the bartenders, Boomer had gone and pulled out a flask from his pocket, but in the process he used his other hand and that is when she noticed the other marks. Does he often get hurt like this? She questioned to herself, just as he offered his flask to her. “You’re knuckles.” Melody instead said, still focused on the bruises he was sporting to even consider accepting the offered flask. Never mind the fact that he could potentially be kicked out if it was discovered he brought outdoor liquor into a private establishment. That was the least of importance right now. 

Reaching over, she gently took his hand into her own. “Does it still hurt?” She found herself asking, grazing her fingers lightly against his knuckles. If she were much sober, Melody would have realized that the bruises Boomer was sporting were barely as severe as she was imagining them to be. And even if they were, they hardly would count as the worst of injuries he’s ever gotten. But she didn’t know any of that. Instead, what she did know was one thing— remembering of how both her parents and her aunt Minnie used to always kiss any injuries she or Millie used to get when they were little so that they could feel better and heal faster, without much thought, Melody brought his hand closer to her lips before leaving a kiss against each bruised knuckle.

Melody seemed to be in a daze as she was swooped into Boomer’s lap — likely due to the alcohol. Though she claimed to be alright, the Rowdyruff wasn’t too sure about that; perhaps he was in a daze himself. He swore he could feel her eyes on him as he glanced away to pull out his flask, purposely avoiding her gaze. Once he pulled out the flask though, her attention was clearly focused elsewhere. 

Considering how often Boomer got into fights as a Rowdyruff boy, bruising was never a concern for him. Even as the sensitive one of the trio, he’d learned at a young age to suck it up and not be a baby in front of his brothers. There was no sympathy with them — so when Melody commented on his knuckles, ignoring the offered flask, it caught Boomer off guard. Instinctively, Boomer flexed his fingers to glance at his bruised knuckles at a different angle, becoming more aware of them now that the twin had pointed them out.

Before he could collect his thoughts, Melody grabbed his hand in her own. His hand flinched at her touch, not due to pain but due to the unexpected gentleness that came with her grasp. “No..” he trailed off, the pain that came with fighting something he was much used to by now. Despite his answer, Melody brought his knuckles up to her lips and kissed them. His eyes widened in surprise as her soft lips touched his skin, suddenly thinking of Millie again. It was as if Boomer was dreaming right now — for the tenderness Melody possessed was something he had wanted when dating Millie, even Bubbles too. Had Boomer dated the wrong twin all along? The wrong person?

The thought made him break his gaze from hers and take a swig from the flask, not thinking about the risk of getting caught by any employees in the establishment. By the time he mentally questioned if drinking more was such a good idea or not, it was already too late. His face felt flushed and warm, and the crowdedness of the bar didn’t help. Before he knew it, he blurted out without a second thought, “You wanna get out of here?”

Uh-Oh, perhaps she shouldn’t have asked him that, Melody thought. By questioning if it had been recent when he dated her sister, it was made very clear to the model that she should’ve said something else instead. He had just started to smile back at her in return, the confusion that started their interaction now suddenly coming right back the second she opened her mouth again with her question, thus causing his smile to fall in return.

Should she confirm to him that her twin hadn’t said anything? The blonde already looked as if she had tried to kick him down merely by him realizing that she wasn’t Millie in the first place, so would she want to hurt him even more by confirming to him that he may not have been significant enough to her twin for her to mention him? Although, it may not matter either way seeing how she already insinuated that he may not have been important with just her question alone. Oh, she felt regretful for doing that, but finding no other choice outside lying to him, Melody pitifully smiled at Boomer as a response. “Please don’t take it too personally — we haven’t had much time to speak to one another during the recent months, so it could’ve easily slipped her mind.” She tried to reassure, which wasn’t so far off from the truth. She had become even busier the past couple of months to chat with her twin for so long, however, there had been enough time for Millie to tell her she was seeing someone new.

Especially if it was during the summer when they dated, she frowned hearing that news but nodded head to show she was listening. Now Melody found it even stranger that Millie hadn’t told her about Boomer. Even if it had been a summer fling or a one-off kind of thing, normally her sister would’ve said something and yet— “What she did?” The model repeated his words, her brows furrowed together in confusion. Millie had done something to him? Not wanting to be one to assume, she tilted her head at him. “What? What do you mean by that?”

Boomer noticed Melody's expression shift too, like she regretted the words once she recognized their significance. It already hadn't felt good, knowing that Millie didn't like the Rowdyruff boy enough to be loyal ( or even simply be honest ), but now knowing that he was so insignificant in his ex's life that even her twin was unaware he existed — a punch in the gut felt better than this. Still, none of this was Melody's fault.

"Right," the blonde nodded, but Melody's attempted reassurance didn't do much to ease his disappointment. If anything, it only felt like she was pitying him now. Knowing what happened between him and Millie, chances were high that telling Melody didn't simply slip her mind. She was embarrassed, ashamed. He wondered if she felt embarrassed because she had dated Boomer or because she cheated on Boomer — possibly both. Butch had certainly been right about Millie pity-dating him.

The Rowdyruff boy sighed again as he prepared to rip the bandage off: "I mean she cheated on me." A moment of silence followed, the blonde glancing down at his feet as he stuffed his hands in his pockets. He didn't bother to mention his brother's involvement or the fact that Boomer had caught them in the act. He preferred not to talk about it. "... So I'm not sure it actually did slip her mind." Unless he seriously was that forgettable, which could very well be true at this rate. He shook his head, suddenly realizing he was burdening Millie's twin sister of all people with his heartache. How embarrassing. "Anyways, I don't want to keep wasting your time. It sounds like you and your sister have a lot to catch up on, so..."

Even taking their first interaction into account, Melody didn't view Boomer in a negative light. Sure, there was a brief moment where she feared that he may have been some stalker fan who found her, but even then it wasn’t actually him who she was scared of but rather the idea of him being someone who could otherwise turn out to being terrifying when encountered. But once he realized who she was, and even her connection to her sister, she still didn’t find a reason to feel discouraged when around him. He hardly gave her a reason to be. Even now, with the reality of knowing that it was her sister who had hurt him and Millie confirming that fact, the most the model thought of about the blonde was how painful things must be for him. After all, she could imagine how crushing it must have been when realizing that not only was the person you were dating and thought had feelings for you not only cheated on you, but the person they cheated with happened to be your own sibling. Melody couldn’t even fathom the thought of Millie sleeping with someone she had been dating but she could imagine how badly it must have hurt if something like that ever did happen.

“Everyone?” She frowned, hearing him say how everyone else viewed him as an idiot. Well, that wasn’t nice. She understood that she hadn’t known Boomer for so long, this literally being the second time she’s spoken to him within her life, but she found that it wasn’t right for people to call him an idiot. Even if he was—which in her opinion, no one should be ever called an idiot regardless of whether it was collectively agreed that they were—it was evident that he wasn’t in the soundest of minds as of lately. Just by his expression alone, Melody could tell that there may be more than just his past relationship with Millie that was troubling him. And also noticing it now, when he turned his head to look at her, there was what seemed to be a faint mark against his cheek. Melody couldn’t help but wonder— did someone try to hurt him? But why? She wanted to question about about that mark, but even in her inebriated state, the brunette still had some sense in knowing that it may not be her place to ask him what happened. It may not even be a bruise in the first place.

“I don’t think you’re an idiot, so you don’t need to count me as one of them.” She found herself repeating, going as far as to shake her head even as to prove her point. But doing so only caused the model in becoming a little dizzy, Melody stumbling back once again as the dizziness had hit her, only for her to use her told on Boomer to keep her steady. Her grip had tightened for a quick second. “Sorry…” She apologized once more, loosening her grip yet not removing her hold on him. Unfortunately, with how pack this bar was, there weren’t any seats available for her to sit on, forcing the model in needing to continue standing in her heels. At least until she’s finally able to catch one of the bartenders attentions so she could head back to her colleagues. Finding herself talking with Boomer had distracted Melody with her initial reason for coming to the bar in the first place, and it seemed like he too noticed the lack of available seating as the blonde then smiled at her and asked if she needed a sit. Aware that there wasn’t any current seat available, the only conclusion the brunette could make was that he was planning on offering her his seat, which in return, she only again shook her head— slowly. “I’m fine.” Melody reassured, though she has yet to remove her hands away from his shoulder. “I just need to catch one of the bartenders attention to order a drink and then I’ll be completely out of your way.”

Boomer was still trying to wrap his head around how Melody didn't think he was an idiot, eyebrows furrowed curiously. She must have been really drunk, the Rowdyruff boy concluded as he still felt her hands lingering on his arm. He didn't exactly know what the twin did or didn't know about recent events related to Boomer, or whether she ever figured out who Millie cheated on him with, but he wondered if maybe she just felt bad for him.

"Pretty much," Boomer answered honestly. He could even recall Millie calling him an idiot while they were together, although she had said it in a teasing tone followed by a playful push on his chest. Jokingly or not, it was a word that was said toward Boomer so often that it was practically a nickname, especially from his brothers. In fact, besides Melody, he couldn't think of anyone else who didn't consider him an idiot. Hearing that she disagreed with the majority of people was actually refreshing. His expression softened, but only momentarily as he suddenly watched Melody stumble back. He must have been right about the heels, noticing how wobbly she was as she tightened her grip on him. "Seriously, you should probably sit," he ignored her apology, ready to stand and let her use his stool until she attempted to reassure him. The blonde smiled again, unable to help but be amused by how much Melody was trying to fool him — she wasn't an actress like her sister, that was for sure.

Before Boomer could say anything else, a person brushing past the two of them from behind caused Melody to stumble again, and the Rowdyruff boy instinctively reached his arm out to stop her from falling. The next set of movements happened so quickly — his arm firmly wrapped around Melody's waist, then he swiftly pulled her so she landed right onto his lap. "Hey, watch it," Boomer snapped at the stranger, who was already out of earshot and didn't even bother to turn around. "Dickhead."

With Melody sitting lightly on his knee and his arm resting around her waist, he asked, "You good?" He wasn't sure if she would fall if he moved his arm, so he left it there hesitantly. It was that moment when he suddenly became aware of how close the two were to each other; quick flashes of past moments with Millie suddenly resurfaced in his mind. He wasn't sure what was worse though: thinking of Millie right then or thinking of Brick. His brother's familiar voice echoed in the back of his head as Melody met his gaze — you gonna hook up with the twin sister to get back at her? Boomer suddenly had to distract himself from his brother's influences, remembering his flask and pulling it out of his pocket. He had to bring his other arm out in front of them to unscrew the lid, his bruised knuckles becoming more visible under the dim bar lights. Boomer didn't think twice about how his hand looked though, holding the flask toward the brunette. "Ordering a drink might take awhile — but I do have this?"

“Yeah, you could have said that dumb shit to the real one instead,” Brick replied, easily imagining how his brother's recent interaction with his ex-girlfriend's identical twin could have gone worse. What was Boomer even thinking, trying to approach his ex who had cheated on him? The fact that she had cheated on him with none other than the man, the myth, the legend, Brick himself, was not lost on him when they spoke of Millie (which honestly wasn’t a lot, this being the first time she came up since shit went down.) He just didn’t really care. He didn’t feel bad about what he’d done or regret hurting Boomer—it was water under the bridge to him almost as soon as it happened. “So what, you gonna hook up with the twin sister to get back at her?”

"Right.." Boomer trailed off, who had a similar thought while he was confronting Melody; he had briefly considered how talking to his ex again after everything was stupid, but he couldn't help but say something when he saw her (or who he thought was her). It ended up being for the better that only Millie's twin had to endure listening to Boomer's woes rather than Millie herself. "What? No." He answered almost too quickly at his brother's next suggestion. Boomer hadn't even considered hooking up with Melody, though he should have expected such an idea from Brick. "I don't know," he backtracked a moment later, shrugging in an attempt to brush it off. "I don't think she's the hookup type."

“Was I a fool for ever thinking I could get you to stay?” -Boomer ( @boomerjj )

After Morty was discharged from the hospital and Bubbles took him back home, the Powerpuff spent the rest of the day all the way up until the next completely fussy over him. She hadn’t wanted to leave his side, even after being aware that he was okay and all that was needed was for his injuries to heal, the blonde had slept over his place just to make sure. It wasn’t until the afternoon of the following day, where she finally decided to head back home. At first, she had wanted to stay a whole other day, but then remembered how she was supposed to have band practice with her sisters later on. Bubbles considered texting Blossom and Buttercup about rescheduling, but then that meant needing to explain to them on why she was canceling, only for her to then wonder if she should tell them what happened to Morty through text. That was when her boyfriend reassured her that she could leave if she wanted so she wouldn’t have to miss practice and tell them in person instead, and though Bubbles still hadn’t wanted to, it took Morty telling her that she could come back later tonight again, and if she was free tomorrow than they can spend the rest of the following day together as a makeup for the date they had to miss. That was enough to appease the blonde, and so after giving him one last kiss, the Powerpuff left.

Within minutes, she was landing in front of the entranceway of her home, but just as she landed she froze. There, leaning against the wall of her house, was Boomer. But as quickly as her surprise came, an intense anger soon replaced it as once again, the memory of watching the blonde Rowdyruff punch her boyfriend onto the ground flashed through her mind. At the time, Bubbles wasn’t able to get back at her ex for what he had done, focusing more on her boyfriend instead of getting revenge— but seeing him here, now in front of her, gave the Powerpuff the opportunity to do so. She couldn’t even believe that he was bold enough to come over here after here so soon— and in front of her own home at that! “You have one minute to tell me what you’re even doing here, Boomer, before I kick you out myself.” Bubbles spoke up, her hands already balling into a fists as she glared. He should be grateful that she was even giving him a chance to explain instead of her going straight into fighting. But ever the gracious one, the blond wanted to see if he had anymore ulterior motives first before attacking. The response that the superhero did ended up getting was not the one she expected to hear. “Are you serious?” Bubbles scoffed, unable to believe that he was asking her that of all things. “We weren’t ever serious and you knew that! I made sure you knew— why would you think I’ll want to stay?”

After Bubbles had shoved Boomer off of Morty as he lost his temper on her boyfriend, it took exactly that to bring the blonde Rowdryruff back to reality — the hard impact of the Powerpuff girl's anger. Everything had happened so fast, from the sound of her yelling as she flew toward them and the harsh glare in her eyes as she tackled him to the ground. It wasn't really the physical altercation that made him feel like shit, though. It was what followed: Bubbles worried about her boyfriend as she hovered over him in a panic. Boomer froze in place for a moment as he'd witnessed this, a sickly feeling in his stomach as he realized how absolutely fucked up it all was. He flew away without another word so he didn't have to witness more of the couple face-to-face.

Violence was normally the answer to everything for a Rowdyruff boy, but suddenly Boomer felt like he really screwed up with taking that route. A hard lesson he had to learn after Bubbles, and was still learning, was that love and violence didn't mix well, but violence was exactly what the Rowdyruff boys were created for. Boomer had fallen for Bubbles despite that she clearly didn't reciprocate those feelings, despite that they were literally created to be incompatible, and ever since then Boomer had been lost beyond belief. He was starting to believe it was simply because he wasn't meant to love. Was it his fault for doing so anyway, or was something wrong with him out of his control?

What was even worse was, after leaving the couple behind to clean up the mess he'd created, it didn't make him feel better to think that he hurt Bubbles and Morty. She was supposed to be the enemy and she broke his heart, yet there was still a part of him that obviously cared for her. Perhaps seeing her so distraught was what really woke him up, not the impact of her shoving him away.

A combination of these conflicting feelings made Boomer decide to try and talk to Bubbles after some time to think about it all, despite how arguably stupid that may be. He didn't have to wait too long for her to get home, leaning against the wall in the meantime as he contemplated what exactly he wanted to say ( apologizing wasn't exactly the Rowdryruff thing to do, was it? ). He knew she'd be angry though, and if he had to apologize to ease her anger, there was a good chance he'd cave in.

Boomer watched as Bubbles' expression flashed from surprise to fury as she arrived, and he held his hands up in defense. "I'm here in peace, I swear." He didn't blame her if she didn't believe him. The next thing he'd said was a way to show Bubbles why he was here, after all that was what he'd been reflecting on before now, but it only seemed to piss her off more — he was never really good with words. He sighed heavily. "I don't know. You and I are supposed to be enemies, and we obviously have been for years, but ... after we hooked up and started spending more time together, I ... I thought things could be actually different? Clearly, I was wrong about that, and you probably hate me now more than ever.." he trailed off, losing his point for a second. Where was he going with this? He shook his head. "I think I'm only saying all this because, after I saw you and Morty together after what I did, I realized that fighting him wasn't going to make me feel better because all I did was hurt you. I thought hurting you would make me feel better, but..." he shrugged in defeat, finally pulling himself away from the wall and taking a small step closer to the blonde. "I know it's been a while since everything between us, but the breakup with Millie only rubbed salt in the wound, and then when I finally saw Morty face-to-face.." the rest was history. The guilt in his gaze was clear as day, and he looked at Bubbles with a sort of silent apology, the only way he really knew how to go about this. Whether she forced him to say it out loud or she fought him to get even, he'd let her decide.

The moment he mentioned her not being his ex, that’s when it all became clear— he had dated Millie. Ah, she should’ve known. It made much more sense that he had mistaken Melody for her twin sister and that is why he had approached her in the first place. However, seeing how it has been a while since she last been at home, much less physically be in person around her sister, being mistaken for Millie hadn’t crossed her mind. Although— her sister was as recognizable as she was just for her acting alone.

Her cheeks then began to brighten a tad, the model now finding herself feeling rather silly for assuming that he was some stalker. Of course, he had assumed she was her twin sister! How could she not think of that at first? However, just as quickly as that feeling of embarrassment came, a new thought had came to mind. Millie dated someone who wasn’t Morty and she didn’t tell Melody anything about it? And from the way he made it sound their relationship must have been a serious one if he felt so emotionally connected to her twin to the point in wanting Millie to be the one for him. At the realization that her sister had kept this from her, she frowned. Then again….. just because he found their relationship serious enough, wouldn’t mean that her sister felt the same. And if there was one thing Melody knew about Millie— it was that unless it’s Morty, she typically don’t invest herself with any other men. She has a way of charming them, yes, but that was mainly it. Which could once again brings back the framing of his words. 

Briefly losing herself in her thoughts, it nearly escaped her that he had apologized for the misunderstanding and had introduced himself to her. “No worries. It’s not the first time Millie and I have been mistaken for each other— this just has been the first in a while.” Snapping out of it, Melody shook her head at Boomer. “Although, as confusing as this first meeting is, it’s nice to meet you Boomer. I’m Melody— Millie’s twin sister.” She replied, only for a tentative smile to appear on her face. “So, you and my sister dated? Was it...recent?”

The misunderstanding with Millie's identical twin did clear up some confusion, but then it also got Boomer thinking more ( and that never ended well ). Although there was a chance that Melody just simply didn't recognize him, there was also a chance that she really had never seen him before. Had Millie really never sent her a single picture of them while they dated? He knew they didn't really post about each other ( Boomer wasn't really active on his social media, though he couldn't say the same for Millie.. ), but he assumed they at least texted each other updates, including a picture of Boomer at the time she was seeing him. Something. Was he overthinking it?

Maybe he was, as he noticed Melody's cheeks also redden at the embarrassing interaction. Way to go Boomer, making things awkward. Still, it gave him a slight sense of relief; maybe Melody was embarrassed because now she was recognizing him. She even attempted to kindly brush it off, which he appreciated, and he matched her light smile. At least, until her next question. His smile fell as soon as he realized that, not only had he been right in his assumption that Millie had never even sent a picture of them to her twin, but she never even told Melody about Boomer at all. Was he really that much of a loser?

"She never told you about me.." Boomer trailed off at the realization, unable to hide the disappointment that now plagued his expression. This was even more embarrassing now, but he knew this wasn't Melody's fault. He cleared his throat awkwardly as he clarified, "It was during the summer.." He sighed as he realized something else, too. ".. She probably didn't tell you because of what she did."

“More like you’re your own cockblocker!” Butch claimed, breaking into a howling laughter at his blonde dumb-bee of a brother’s comment. Oh, he knew what Boomer was referring to by that comment. It was no secret among the Rowdyruff Boys—or anyone with eyes for that matter—of how horrendous of a romance track record Boomer’s has had. With him actually having the balls to go off and date a Powerpuff of all people, who ended up ditching him the first chance she got, and then even after him dating a weak human who, get this—let Brick fuck her while she was still dating Bommer. Yeah, the youngest of the three would agree that his brother has blue balls of the heart. But he was also an idiot for actually letting that happen. “No shit you have blue balls of the heart! You messed around with a PowderPuff! Even if it was the pigtailed one, what? Did you think the two of you would be able to live happily ever after with each other because she let you fuck her?” Butch nearly gagged at the thought. “And as for that Milly one, hate to break it to you but not really— she pity dated you”

Boomer wasn't sure why he even bothered trying to vent to his brothers about his continuously failing love life. He was so much different than both of them, who preferred to ignore any sort of feelings and instead put their focus on sex and violence. Maybe Boomer was the selfish one for wanting more than that, though he'd always been the sensitive one of the three. He wished he could just shut off his feelings like Butch and Brick seemed to do effortlessly, but the blonde didn't quite operate that way. He huffed out a sigh as he let Butch get all his laughter out; he was used to being the butt-end of a joke after all these years. "Yeah, yeah, laugh it up. Boomer's a dumbass." He rolled his eyes, a little frustrated but unable to escape the judgment from everyone else around him, between his failed dating life and the recent fight with his ex's current boyfriend. "You know, pointing that out doesn't make me feel any better," he continued, wondering where Butch was going with this. "I just don't understand why. Am I really that pathetic? ..
