Morty absolutely melted as his girlfriend cupped his face and kissed his nose, his eyes wide and adoring. If he was a cartoon character, little red hearts would surely have been popping up around his head, but unfortunately he hadn’t figured out how to do that in reality yet. He was still just amazed that he finally had this love he’d been waiting for his whole life; he’d spend the rest of it trying to deserve her.
“Tiana’s Palace today; Chez Remy next time,” Morty promised, even if Bubbles claimed she wasn’t serious about her desire to go to the fanciest new restaurant in town. He would make it happen for her as soon as he could just because she might kinda wanna go and that was enough for him. He swung her hand in his as they walked back to the car, and opened her door for her before heading to the driver’s seat.
With a fond shake of her head, she decided not to correct her boyfriend about Chez Remy, instead choosing to swing their linked hands as the couple walked their way back to the car. It really didn’t matter to her where they went during their dates, Bubbles was just happy with the fact that she got to be with Morty like this again. Happy that she was given the chance to freely show her love for him once more. And the chance to do things right with him.
Blowing a kiss as a thank you for opening the door for her, the blonde slide into the passengers seat before watching as her boyfriend moved towards the drivers seat. It didn’t take long for them to arrive at Tiana’s Palace, and while there was a bit of a wait, it was only for fifteen minutes until the couple was seated. “Keep being a gentlemen and you might get lucky again tonight.” She teased in a low tone just for Morty to hear, as he pulled the chair out for her like he had done with the car door earlier. Yet, for once, the thought of sex wasn’t in her mind, the blonde holding her hand out across the table for her boyfriend to hold once the two of them were seated. Fingers entwining once more, she smiled. “I like this.”
Despite her hurt by the news of Bubbles and Morty, it was surprisingly easy to agree to spend time with her best friend and attempt to move forward. Perhaps it was the loneliness Millie had been feeling — between losing Morty and screwing up with Boomer, along with her twin sister being out of town for her career, Millie had been spending a lot of time to herself and reflecting, which may very well start to drive her insane if she kept it up. Sure, she had her own work to focus on, but it felt like she had no social life otherwise. Falling back into her friendship with Bubbles and trying to feel normal again felt like the right thing to do to keep herself out of trouble.
Millie nodded as Bubbles considered grabbing her own stuff or not. “We can stop at the store by my place then if that’s easier,” she agreed with a smile. “Between Melody and I, we have plenty of clothes you can borrow. I know she wouldn’t mind,” she reassured the blonde. She could always shoot Melody a quick text letting her know Bubbles would be borrowing some clothes while staying over, realizing she hadn’t been talking to her twin as much as she should have been lately between all the chaos. “I do need my nails touched up,” Millie agreed as she glanced at her hands, the gel nail polish she’d had on for a few weeks now starting to chip away and looking less glamorous than the day she got them done. Bubbles then took her hand and Millie gave it a squeeze. “Let’s! Where to first?”
With Millie reassuring that she could borrow anything from her and Melody, Bubbles once again smiled. Just like if Millie was going back to her house instead, she was positive that neither Blossom or Buttercup would mind if Millie borrowed any of their clothes. Well, maybe Buttercup would mind a little, but good thing the blondes style and Blossom’s style aligned more with Millie's compared to Buttercup anyways so there wouldn’t be much issues either way. But she was glad that they were going over to the actresses home instead, the Powerpuff feeling like there would’ve been too much distractions if they had gone to hers when all she wanted was to have some one-on-one alone time with her best friend. She’ll even shoot a text to Morty about having a girls night with Millie so he could know that she’ll be busy for the night. After all, her best friend deserved this time with her.
“I’ll let the others know that you have me all to yourself for the rest of the night.” Bubbles commented, pulling out her phone with her free hand to open up the group chat she had with sisters. She typed a quick response about being at Millie’s before hitting send, the musician then switched to her chat with her boyfriend, only to let out a fond giggle at the last text message he sent her. Sending a cute emoji as a response, the blonde then quickly typed out about how she and Millie were having a sleepover tonight, and how she’ll call him sometime tomorrow, Bubbles hit sent and slipped her phone right back into her pocket. There, now she was all Millie’s for the rest of the night! “First stop, the beauty store near your place. They have the color I want to use and no, I’m not telling you what it is until it’s bought.” She giggled. “Also, want to get something to bring back home to eat? My treat? Unless you rather we order in instead?”
With family life so tense recently, especially after the Halloween fiasco, it felt good to give some space and to settle into Morty’s and Ferdie’s temporarily. There was some guilt of course, wondering if this was only making tensions at home even worse, but at the end of the day it felt like the right decision to make. His best friend was only trying to help after all, and Dewey appreciated him for that. It was nice that despite his family life being in shambles, he still had good friends who had his back.
It seemed Morty wasn’t the only one who wanted to ensure that Dewey was okay. As he was unpacking his things, Bubbles popped her head into the room and broke the silence. Dewey turned his head to meet her gaze and smiled. “What can I say? Morty loves me,” he teased in return, nodding at her next question and motioning for her to come in. “I don’t have much to unpack,” he confessed, having only grabbed the necessities so far from his bedroom at the manor, “but I could use the company.”
As her best friend caught met her gaze and teasingly claimed how Morty loves him, the blonde Powerpuff let out a fake gasp. “Are you claiming that Morty loves you more than he loves me?” Bubbles questioned in returned, pretending to look offended by this revelation, despite already knowing how much the two boys cared for one another. Ironically enough, if it wasn’t for the fact that her boyfriend wasn’t romantically interested in guys at all, then she might have been a little suspicious over the kind of love Morty felt for Dewey. But then again, Dewey would be the exception of that claim, wouldn’t he?
“Would you at least break the news gently to me when you two ultimately get together? You know how sensitive I am.” Bubbles then decided to say, her voice still light and jokingly as she made her way inside the bedroom. Taking a seat next to Dewey on the bed, she saw that he was right about not having much to unpack. The blonde frowned. “You must’ve packed the first things you can get your hands on, huh?” She commented, realizing just how sudden the decision to move out must’ve been. “…..Do any of them know that you decided to move out?”
“Come in,” Louie answered, not bothering to get up to open the door since he knew Bubbles was capable of getting it herself as soon as she was welcomed in. Once she did and he saw the enormous pile of toys in her hands though, he wondered if he should have made the effort to get out of bed. It was only a passing thought; the stuffed animals were probably weightless to her and her superhuman abilities even made balancing easier, so it was easier on both of them to let her handle it. He considered her as she stood framed in his doorway with her arms full of plush and hummed as if in deep thought before answering. “Hmmm. I accept your offering.”
He scooted up in his bed to sit up more properly and make room for what he knew was about to be a shower of plush toys, and his glance back at the door probably didn’t go unnoticed as he looked for Bubbles’ sisters or their other mutual friends, only to find that she had come alone. It hadn’t really struck him until then that she hadn’t visited him alone since he’d been injured, but his automatic expectation to find someone else behind her proved that she usually came with a group. “What’s up?” he asked, not sure what to make of the situation. If she just came because she wanted to check in on him, even if no one else was going, that was pretty touching…Lately Louie had been more depressed than heart-warmed, and he could use all the caring gestures he could get, even if he was still a little suspicious when they were unexpected.
Receiving his consent to come inside his bedroom, it didn’t take much for the blonde to push the door open with her free hand right before she beamed at the youngest duck triplet. “Hi Louie! It’s me, Bubbles!” She greeted, as if it wasn’t obvious which of the Powerpuff girls she was. If she had been Buttercup, no doubt would he have already known about her stopping by meaning there wouldn’t have been a need for her to knock. And if she was Blossom, while she definitely would have knocked and waited for his response, the fact that the blonde currently had a small mountain of plush toys huddled within one arm would have been an odd choice of a gift from her oldest sister. Surely, Blossom would’ve gone with a more practical gift for Louie. Not that plush toys weren’t practical because they totally were, and Bubbles would even argue was the best kind of gift to give someone! And it seemed like Louie agreed as the blonde grinned at his acceptance. “Good because they’re extra soft and squishy!”
Moving towards his bed, it didn’t escape her at the way he glanced back at the doorway as if to see if anyone else was coming in. Bubbles looked away, reminding herself once again how this was the first time she was visiting Louie all on her own. Of course he would assume someone else came with her, but she didn’t let that thought deter her, instead— the blonde allowed the mountain of plush toys to fall from her arms and onto Louie’s bed, a few even falling against his lap and gently hitting his shoulder. “I wanted to see how you were doing.” She replied, turning back at him with a smile. “And to gift you these plushies— when I first saw them I just thought 'Louie would love these!' so I had to get them for you!” The blonde reached for the nearest plush toy, which happened to be that of an orange cat with it’s eyes closed in a calm like look, before shaking it at his direction. “Don’t you think?”
“You know what I meant,” Buttercup grumbled back in annoyance. Similar to Buttercup hating to talk about her past relationship with Ace, she also hated to discuss her hookups with Butch. The brunette rolled her eyes as she heard her sister’s excited squeal, honestly surprised at how excited she was about it since he was a previous enemy. Then, the billions of questions came rolling in. She sighed. “I told you, there’s nothing to tell because we’re not together. We just hook up and … hang out…” she trailed off, her tone becoming less angry the more she spoke. Ugh, she was already giving herself away, but at least Bubbles was more oblivious than Blossom. “We started hooking up after a concert a few months ago…”
Bubbles merely giggled at Buttercup's annoyance. Even as her sister tried to dismiss how huge this reveal was, the blonde still felt super excited for her. After all, it’s not every day where she finds out that Buttercup developed feelings for someone, as in full-blown romantic feelings for them! So obviously she wants to know everything! “And … hang out?” Bubbles repeated, catching the way the brunette trailed off as her smile slowly shifted into a smirk. Oh, she was even more curious now! She wanted to know when things started to change between her sister and Billy. Were feelings always hidden beneath everything, even back when Billy was the enemy? Again, it wouldn’t be the first for Buttercup to find interest in a bad guy even when they knew it wouldn’t be a good thing. But Billy wasn’t so bad, not even in the past, hence why Bubbles didn’t feel so concerned for her sister. Don’t get her wrong, she would still be very much protective over her if he tried to do anything to hurt her baby sister, but for now the blonde would be giving him the benefit of the doubt. At the mention of their hook up beginning after a concert a few months ago, her eyes light up. “I remembered! Blossom and I had been so confused on where you went and when we texted you, all you replied with was ‘busy’ and left us on read for the rest of the night!” She pouted. “Which was very rude of you, but now that I know why, I get it.” Then something new popped in her head and Bubbles gasped. “You’re solo album!"
For the first time ever, Bubbles wasn’t visiting Morty’s and Ferdie’s place to see her boyfriend. Seeing Morty's face was a huge plus, of course, but she actually decided to stop by because she heard from Morty that Dewey was moving in with him and his brother. It was no secret that things were pretty tense between Dewey and his family lately thanks to a certain bombing that occurred at Hotel Transylvania with him, Louie and Webby being caught within the crossfire. But seeing how some time had already passed from that incident, the blonde thought that Dewey and his family were working things out. However, after even more drama happening at the Halloween Ball, it seemed like whatever progress her friend has been trying to make was now at a standstill. Bubbles herself couldn’t say she knew what happened at the ball, that night she had been so focused on Morty, everything and everyone else became irrelevant to her. But days later, it seemed like her boyfriend got the gossip from their friend and of how Dewey got himself in a fight with Tiffany’s (ex?)boyfriend at the ball, causing the two of them to be thrown out, and how he even got into another argument with his uncle and Huey right after, and now it seemed like Dewey decided it was time for him to move out of the McDuck Manor. And of course, Morty with his big heart, offered for Dewey to move in with him, and Dewey accepted it.
Making her way to what used to be the spare bedroom, the Powerpuff noticed the doorway was open, and so she peaked inside. There, she found her friend unpacking his things. “You know, I always assumed it would be either me or Millie who got to live with Morty first. Never would’ve guessed you’ll beat the both of us to it.” Bubbles joked, catching his attention. “Want some help unpacking?” ( @deweydewdrop )
Shuffling the random pile of extremely fluffy plush toys into one hand, the blonde Powerpuff then lifted her free hand to knock against the door she stood before. “Knock, knock, can I come in?” Bubbles asked, knocking a few more times before she pulled her hand back. Ever since the incident at the hotel happened, it has dawned to her that she really hasn’t taken the time to come visit Louie herself. No, it wasn’t as if she hasn’t seen him at all since he got injured— the blonde has came to visit a few times already with her sisters and boyfriend, but she couldn’t deny that when it came to her personally visiting the youngest triplet, she has yet to do so. In her defense, Buttercup would often come here already and give her and Blossom any updates on his condition, and seeing how her sister was closer to Louie, the blonde wasn’t so sure if he wanted her to visit as much. Especially when Bubbles was much closer to Dewey herself, and seeing how he was the main reason why Louie got injured in the first place…..the Puff didn’t want to do or accidentally say anything that might trigger him. That, and admittedly, she had checked up on Dewey a little more especially ever since he moved in with Morty and Ferdie. But Louie was Bubbles friend too, and she wanted to make up for lost time.
However, at the same time, the blonde didn’t just want to show up at his place empty handed— Louie so deserved some kind of gift for her visiting him so late, and after mulling it over, Bubbles came up with a great idea. A mountain of plush toys! And who doesn’t love plush toys! They’re so soft and comforting! “I come with gifts!” ( @llouieduck )
Morty didn’t know when he’d last slept so well. After sleeping with Bubbles all night, he woke up feeling more at peace than he’d been in a long time—although he never felt particularly displeased in life, very content and grateful for all he had on a general basis, this was something else. He shifted in the bed and opened his eyes to see hers already on him. Morty smiled, a quiet chuckle catching in his throat. “G’morning. Are you watching me sleep?” he asked, grabbing her hand that had been gently grazing his skin and holding it against his chest. His heart beat underneath, sure and steady, for her. He was so glad the last night hadn’t just been a hyper-realistic dream. It was real; this was real. And it didn’t seem like Bubbles had changed her mind in the middle of the night considering the way she was laying with him, tracing patterns on his skin and looking for all the world like an angel despite having just woken up herself. “Hot diggity dog, you’re gorgeous.”
A smile bloomed on Bubbles face as Morty smiled back at her. Then an instant wave of relief rushed through her as he took her hand and held it against his chest, allowing her to feel the steadiness of his heartbeat, of the calmness he felt as he looked at her. “I may have. You looked so peaceful while you were sleeping.” The blonde replied, showing no shame in being caught staring at him as he slept. Instead, as she continued to stare at him, she spoke up once again. “Did I wake you?” Bubbles asked, the earlier finger tracing she had been doing against his chest likely being an unintentional cause of waking him up from his peaceful slumber. “Sorry,” she then added, yet the look in her eyes was anything but apologetic. He didn’t seem to mind, the brunette proclaiming she was gorgeous, causing her to giggle in response. Bubbles stared at Morty with a look filled of a tender love within her eyes after that, but there was also a mix of curiosity and hopefulness— the wonders and desires of what all this really meant for the two of them now that it was the day after. She then hooked her leg around his, snuggling even closer to him so that their bodies were once again pressed against each other before taking the risk and pressing a kiss against his lips. The kiss lasted for a few seconds before she pulled away. “…Was that okay?”
Morty was glad to hear that Bubbles wasn’t going anywhere tonight, nodding in accidental unison with Ferdie as they both accepted that she was here to stay. Of course they didn’t mind, or they wouldn’t have invited her! The only thing that pulled Morty out of the relative sense of peace that washed over him when Bubbles agreed to stay was what she suggested next—that she was going to tell her sisters what had happened. He groaned again, whined, “Not yet...” And maybe he was being a big old baby, but he was wiped out and on some killer painkillers and just not ready for everyone in the world to know the state he was in. Even if the other two Utonium girls weren’t “everyone in the world,” they were two more people than he thought needed to know immediately after he got his shit rocked. Letting his own family know was bad enough…Besides, this whole mess involved Millie, so he wanted to tell her before everyone else knew what had gone down—and he wasn’t ready to do that yet. He needed a day or two to gather his wits before engaging in that conversation with her, which meant nobody else (besides those on a need-to-know basis like his roommates and family) should hear about it yet.
“You can tell them you’re staying over,” Morty said in modification of his protest, to let his girlfriend know that wasn’t the part he was objecting to. “But can you just give it a couple days before explaining why? I’m not ready for everyone to know.” Here he sent a meaningful look at his twin, as well, letting Ferdie know that he better not tell anyone else besides immediate family either. It was unnecessary, Ferdie already realizing he was included in that directive, but Morty didn’t want Bubbles to think he was only imposing the rule on her. It wasn’t her fault—or even Blossom’s in honesty—but how could he trust Buttercup to hear what had happened without either immediately flying out to fight Boomer herself, or telling her best friend what was going on because she and Louie kept nothing from each other (and then the whole Duck family would know.) It was all just too much, too soon. Morty needed a good long rest without having to worry about all that.
As soon as she mentioned telling her sisters what happened, Morty immediately protested. That made Bubbles pause, a bit surprised at the fact that he didn’t want either of her sisters to know when rationally, it would be a good thing for her to tell both Blossom and Buttercup what Boomer had done. It was even a little upsetting that he didn’t want either to them to be told right away, but as he explained further on how he wasn’t ready for everyone to know yet, she merely nodded in response. He pleaded for her to give it a few days before mentioning it to anyone else, and as much as hearing that upset the blonde further, she decided to respect that. “Okay, I won’t tell them yet.” Bubbles replied, still not happy but at the same time, not wanting to upset or cause anymore frustration onto Morty. She could wait a few days. She didn’t like the thought of having to do so, especially if Boomer decided to randomly show up again and go for a round two while her boyfriend was recovering, but the Powerpuff tried to rationalized that as long as she stayed close to him until he gave it the ‘okay’ to tell, everything should be fine. “I’ll just text them and let them know I’m staying the night then.”
Shooting her sisters a quick text within their shared group chat, it didn’t take long for her to get a response back from the both of them. A “i’ll let the Professor know and have fun!” from Blossom followed by a disgust emoji from Buttercup, Bubbles let out a small laugh as the implications of why she was staying the night was there, yet as true as that may have been if she and Morty had been able to go out on their date as planned— sex was not in the cards tonight. If anything, it’ll be rather lucky if her boyfriend is able to sleep comfortably throughout the entire night. “Blossom said she’ll let our dad know I won’t be home tonight either, so I’m good to stay here.” The Powerpuff stated to both Morty and Ferdie, as if she wouldn’t have stayed even if she had to head back home. Unless there was a separate emergency happening over there, staying here with Morty took top priority for her.
The scoff that escaped the blonde's lips only made Boomer feel worse. Maybe coming here was a bad idea... A really terrible idea. There was a reason everyone treated him like he was the stupid one of his brothers, after all. Right now he felt the dumbest he’d ever felt his entire existence. He sighed in defeat. “I know that now…” he trailed off. Seeing Morty and Bubbles together briefly only solidified that for him. He had been naive then and he felt just as naive now, only currently his heart felt more heavy and full of shame than before. He wondered how different things would’ve played out between the two blondes, had he known then what he knows today.
Boomer noticed Bubbles’ fists tighten, her anger growing and hinting at where this conversation would be headed. He wasn’t scared of her despite that he probably should be — he knew he deserved any hits that may be coming his way soon. If his brothers were here to witness, they’d probably laugh at him and call him pathetic. He deserved that too.
Bubbles' words caused the blonde Rowdyruff boy to shake his head. He wasn’t disagreeing with her, rather he just wasn’t sure what his end goal was. Maybe he was just a selfish asshole, only coming here for his own benefit and not thinking about Bubbles and her feelings. Why couldn’t he do anything right? He wanted to do something right for once, something good even though that completely contradicted what he was created for, but anything he did only seemed to piss her off even more. Perhaps he should stop trying to expect anything else.
“I don’t know what I’m trying to do here,” Boomer confessed. It was clear in his voice how lost and confused he was. He was completely out of his element. “I’m not trying to piss you off more, I’m trying to do the right thing here...” But maybe Boomer wasn’t capable of doing the right thing — maybe he was all wrong and it was just written in his DNA. But Bubbles didn’t care about any of that, not a single ounce of sympathy in her words or expression. He finally apologized out loud, his voice raising slightly to get her to listen to him above her own raised tone. “I’m sorry, okay?! I don’t know what else to say or do here. You don’t care about me, but I still care about you for some reason. I fucked up because I'm a fuck up, and if you wanna get even and put me in the hospital next,” he offered, his hands momentarily motioning to himself to give her the green light, “I won’t fight back. I’m not a mortal like him, but you are stronger than me.”
“I’m sorry, okay?!” And there it was, his apology for hurting someone she cared so deeply about. And yet, hearing that apology did nothing to deter her anger, if anything, it fueled it. But oh, he didn’t stop there! Boomer had the audacity to continue and say that he still cared about her. Cared about her? Oh please! That was the unbelievable thing Bubbles ever heard him say to her. “No,” The blonde Powerpuff began as she slowly shook her head “You don’t get to say you still care about me.” She told him, immediately rejecting that claim. "Not anymore.” Her expression darken even more, just as her following words spewed out with straight venom “Not ever!”
Boomer just didn’t get it. He could not claim to still care, and then go ahead and try to hurt someone he knew she cared about. Things did not work that way! Even if he believed that she didn’t care about him anymore, that still never gave him the green light to attack someone else! And at this point, it wasn’t even the fact that it had been Morty the Rowdyruff had decided to attack, Bubbles would’ve still be as pissed off at him if Boomer had decided to go after someone else she cared about. And oh but he still did! Verbally insulting Millie and claiming her as a slut because she also broke his heart, and then pinning all the blame onto Morty because he happened to be the one both girls decided they wanted to be with? Because he was the one they choose over Boomer.
“You know, I always felt bad for hurting you the way I did.” Bubbles then uttered, her fist slowly unclenching from the tight grip she had. “For weeks, I felt guilty over knowing that you tried to be vulnerable with me and confess how you actually felt about me, only for me to shut it down the way I did before leaving you. I felt sooo terrible about it, I was even very close to texting you and seeing if I could apologize for it. But then luck has it, my sisters and I happened to come across both you and your brothers, and our eyes connected and I knew. You hated me.” She claimed, slowly making her way towards the Rowdyruff. “You hated me because I broke your heart, and you know what? I understood. You were right to. I hurt you— So why wouldn’t you want to hurt me in return?” A laugh devoid of any emotion escaped her lips as soon as Bubbles found herself standing before Boomer. “And hurting Morty would be the perfect way to do that, wouldn’t it?”
Once again, she gave an emotionless laugh. He gave her the consent to fight him without him fighting back, but oh Bubbles did not care on whether or not Boomer didn’t or did. “Don’t think that not being mortal makes you lucky because I don’t just want to get even,” Hands gripping onto his shirt, without much of a second thought, the Powerpuff tossed the Rowdyruff up into the air before shooting up and kicking him down to the ground with a loud thud. “I want you to suffer for what you did!"
Millie nodded in understanding at her apology, though she didn’t express out loud that it was okay. Bubbles’ apology for not saying something sooner felt … almost fake, and not in a sense that she didn’t believe her. Millie just knew deep down that sooner should have been a long, long time ago. There was a secret history between Morty and Bubbles that Millie has always suspected deep down, and Bubbles only just now revealing anything, as if it randomly just happened, almost rubbed salt in the wound. She wanted her to be more honest, but she also knew Bubbles was probably just trying to spare her feelings... Millie had a lot of conflicting emotions as she processed all of this.
Despite feeling conflicted, it went without saying that a girl's day was much needed for both of them. Millie’s smile returned as Bubbles squealed in excitement. A sleepover was an unexpected offer, but Millie easily agreed without question. She could use the company, a pick me up after everything she'd been going through. “I’d love that,” Millie confirmed, though her enthusiasm didn’t completely match Bubbles'. “Did you need to stop at home and grab some stuff? You can always just borrow stuff from me if you want,” she continued, more than willing to share with her if needed. Maybe a part of her worried her feelings would change if Bubbles left and came back. “We can rent a movie, have some snacks…" Despite the hurt deep down, it was easy to move forward with how much she missed her best friend and spending time with her. She hoped that once they did spend time together again, it would make things easier and not more difficult instead. "Oh, I even have some new face masks we can try out together!"
She may have been pushing it a little by also suggesting for the two to have a sleepover on top of making the rest of the day a girls day between them, but Bubbles wasn’t lying when she said it has been a while since they had a sleepover together. And she felt like that was her fault for that too. The blonde couldn’t deny that ever since getting back together with Morty, she’s been spending so much of her time with him—including late night ones—and during the moments where she wasn’t spending it with her boyfriend, the Powerpuff was either practicing new music with her sisters or dealing with some kind of crime with them or just generally hanging out with her sisters. That gave Bubbles little to no time to spend it with Millie, and while sure her best friend has been busy with her own things too that also interfered with the two of them hanging out, the blonde still felt like it was on her to make it up. They should be having more one-on-one quality best friend time together!
So when Millie agreed to them having a sleepover, the blonde once again squealed. “Yay! We’re going to have so much fun!” She claimed, already starting to imagine everything that the two of them could do while they hang out over her friends place. They should totally play their favorite movies or maybe start a show! And they totally should paint each other’s nails! Losing herself a bit within her excitement, Bubbles almost didn’t hear Millie when she asked if she needed to stop at home. The Powerpuff shook her head. “Besides maybe needing a toothbrush, I don’t need to stop at home. But that I can easily get if we stop by the store on the way to your house.” She replied, beaming even more at the prospect of them sharing clothes. When was the last time the two of them has even done that? “…..Unless, you really don’t mind me borrowing from you?” The blonde then asked, wanting to make sure that her friend really was okay with it. If not, the Powerpuff could always zoom back home to get any of her stuff and be back before she could even be missed. “Ooh, and we should totally do our nails while we’re trying on the face masks too. I have a specific color in mind that I would love to try on you!” Bubbles added, now more than ready to start off their sleepover. Taking Millie’s hand, the blonde once again smiled. “Shall we go?”
Brick cocked his head as Bubbles tried to explain what it was like to have sex with the right person, his almost ever-present scowl set in place as he grappled with the concept. What did she think, there was a perfect person out there for everyone? All matched up in ideal little pairs? Didn’t she realize that even if such a thing as soulmates existed for humans—they weren’t created by any god. They were made by mad scientists, in a lab or a prison. The Rowdyruff boys being intentionally designed as equal opposites to the Powerpuff girls meant they were probably the closest thing to “soulmates” with their respective counterpart in the other trio than any mortal would be. (Were soul enemies a thing? That would be a better descriptor of the nature of their relationship.) In any case, there was no right person for anyone born of chemical X: only pathetic humans to play with until they couldn’t keep up anymore. Bubbles was such a dumb little hopeless romantic—only she could think she was in love when the truth was that she wasn’t right for anyone. Alone in near-singularity, just like her sisters, like his brothers, like him.
“Whatever,” he replied, dismissing her whole argument with a word because he couldn’t tell whether to pity her for being so ignorant to reality, or envy that she could be—because she did seem annoyingly happy. Maybe ignorance really was bliss. He was only set back into angry mode when she challenged him by bringing up the streaming charts of their bands. If The Rowdyruff Boys’ music was in the lead, he would have bragged about it too, but when she brought up the numbers he scoffed and brushed it off. “Yeah, sure. Your music’s only popular ‘cause it’s bland enough to appeal to the masses. Doesn’t make it good music.” Or maybe it was because the girls themselves were popular due to their status as superheroes—which Brick didn’t think meant people cared about the quality of their art, but he also didn’t think pointing out that the powder puffs were simply more likable was a point in his favor.
Her brows raised high with surprise when the single response she got from him was a quick “whatever.” Was that it? Bubbles was expecting for Brick to give her more. For him to once again claim how she was so ‘dumb’, ‘naive' or ‘puny minded’ to think and believe that there was a right person for anyone. Although, just because he wasn’t saying it, didn’t mean that the Rowdyruff hadn’t thought it. If anything, with how long it took just for the redhead to finally respond to her the way he did, he had to have thought such things about her words, and even if he had, the blonde still stood by them. She genuinely believed that every single person out there had that special someone for them in return. And maybe she was thinking that because she was with Morty, and because she did believe that he was it for her, but the Powerpuff knew that was true. Morty felt like that one puzzle piece Bubbles never knew she needed in life until she had lost him for good while. But then once they got back together, she now knows more than ever that she couldn’t let him go. She needed him. But someone like Brick wouldn’t know how that feels. To him, it was a ‘me, myself, and I’ kind of world and honestly, that was very sad for him.
Now Bubbles wasn’t usually one to brag about streams or charts like she had just done, but she definitely wasn’t above being someone who would rub such a fact onto someone else’s face. Especially when that someone was a Rowdyruff Boy. Watching as he scoffed at her in response, the blonde continued to cheekily grin at him. “Are you saying that your music is so unique, that it’s only listenable to a particular audience? Sounds to me like you’re trying to excuse the lack of streams you guys have~” The Powerpuff claimed, singing a small tune at the very end. Really, their music wasn’t so bad, it was just a bit too niche. Which again, wasn’t so bad for them, but if Brick really was so set on beating her and her sisters, than he might want to reconsider in appealing to the masses more. Besides, the Powerpuff Girls discography as a band may appeal more to the masses as he say, but clearly he has not heard a single one of her or her sisters solo work. If he then, maybe then he’ll realize why people preferred their music more than his.
Morty shook his head as she played innocent, like Bubbles didn’t know exactly what she was doing when she targeted his sensitive spot. “I like it too much,” he answered anyway, then kissed her neck as she started playing with his hair. As she addressed his suggestion of showering together, he kept his mouth on her skin, sucking lightly—until his lack of clean clothing was brought back up. He held back a groan at the unwanted inconvenience of the reminder. Now that the thought of fucking Bubbles in the shower was in his mind, he didn’t care about anything else. “I’ll wear the skirt,” he said, voice cracking. At that point, he was clearly just saying anything. (Could anyone blame him?)
Fortunately for Morty, he didn’t have to end up wearing the skirt. After their fun in the shower, Bubbles admitted that she did have some of his own clothes for him to wear and he put them on for the trip back to his place, where he changed into something nicer for their romantic dinner date. And after all that…they should have called ahead about reservations. Of course he had been too distracted to remember, and the fancy new restaurant was too booked to just walk in and get a table. Now they were quite literally all dressed up with nowhere to go…
“I’m sorry,” he told his girlfriend as they exited the restaurant, pouting apologetically. “Next weekend? We’ll get reservations ahead of time.” But as for right now, where were they going to eat? “I’ll take you to your second choice restaurant tonight!”
Bubbles ended up laughing at Morty’s resolution to wearing a skirt. As tempting as the thought of seeing him wear one was (and it was so very tempting), she wouldn’t force him to wear one. She could always find a pair of oversized sweatpants or something else for him to wear if she didn’t already have a couple of his clothes. Afterwards, she let out an amused hum, her laughter subsiding as she stared up at Morty with satisfaction in knowing that she had made her boyfriend so horny that he was willing to wear a skirt for her and eat up more time out of their day just so he can fuck her in the shower like she asked. Hooking her legs around his waist, she grind herself against him, getting even more horny herself. “What are you waiting for then? Let’s go shower.”
Shower sex was definitely what Bubbles needed, finding herself feeling refreshed and more in the mood to be going out for a date. Maybe it was because she didn’t need to part from Morty, ultimately their decision to shower together meant the blonde followed along back to his house so he could change into nicer looking clothes for the fancy restaurant she had mentioned in wanting to go to. Speaking of which, of course the place was booked and needed a reservation ahead of time, leaving the couple to now find a new place to go to for their date. Bubbles didn’t mind though, she would happily wait another time to go here.
“You’re so cute.” The Powerpuff claimed at the pout her boyfriend made. She hovered up to his height so she could cup her hands against his cheeks and press a kiss against Morty’s nose. “Next weekend or next month even— I don’t care, I wasn’t serious about wanting to come here today anyways. But it is sweet of you to try.” Bubbles admitted, kissing his lips before landing back on the ground, entwining her hand with his. ”Tiana’s Place it is then!”
“Does your boyfriend know how much you get laid? Just making sure it is him you’re sleeping with—you know, your bestie’s habits might have rubbed off on you.” That was a low blow, considering Brick himself was the one Millie had cheated on his brother with, but the point still stood. Bubbles was somehow trying to argue that she was more attractive than him, which was a total joke. “Unless you think fucking one person more than once makes you a sex symbol,” he added with a scoff. If that was how low the bar was, he could reach it too. He just wasn’t interested in long-term relationships, but he could get one if he wanted. That Ellie who came to a couple of the Rowdyruff Boys’ shows was a good example; he bet he could lock her down easy, she was so manipulable. Maybe he would, just to prove it to himself that he could. At least until she ended up getting too clingy and annoying—then he’d break it off.
In the moments he had been concocting this idea, Brick had almost forgotten where it came from, and that he was still talking to the blue powder-puff. ”My hair?” he replied in bemusement as he snapped back to focus, reaching up to feel it. What was wrong with his hair? Actually, it didn’t fucking matter. He was the opposite of the pink ranger for a reason. “Blondie, I don’t waste hours a day doing my hair like you and your sister. Maybe if you spent more time working on your music than looking in mirrors and combing your hair, your shit would actually sound good.”
“He knows exactly how many people I’ve been with before we got together.” The blonde quipped, a small frown finally making it’s appearance on her face. Not because of the insinuation of Brick calling her a slut— that much she didn’t care for because unlike what he’s trying to get at, Bubbles can and will do whatever she wanted when it came to her own body. Including how many people she’s slept with. The reason for her frown was because he alluded to Millie being a slut. The second Rowdyruff to call her that, and the Powerpuff didn’t like that one bit. “Just say you can’t find satisfaction sleeping with a single person. It’s okay, unlike you, I won’t judge you for sleeping with multiple people. But it feels sooo good when you do find that right person.” And just that that, her frown went away as the blonde yet again giggled. But knowing Brick, he was too much of an asshole to ever settle for someone, and it would truly be a shock the day she ever finds out that he actually did, much less someone actively wanting to settle down with him!
Watching as he reached for his hair after she pointed out how unruly it was, the Powerpuff rolled her eyes yet raised a brow at him. Kind of funny how he says he doesn’t waste hours on it, yet the second she made a comment about it, some ounce of curiosity and even offense towards his own hair was made. Even if Brick didn’t realize it himself. “Jokes on you, we know how to look good and write good music at the same time. I mean, ever seen how many streams The Powerpuff Girls has over The Rowdyruff Boys on Spotify? We’re miles ahead of you because everyone does love listening to our music.” She shrugged. And even if people only listen to them because they liked how she and her sisters looked, than more of a reason to why Bubbles pointed out his hair. They can be hot and still make good music.
Relieved to hear that he was free to leave the hospital, Morty couldn’t wait to get out of there. Except that he could wait at least a little, until they got a ride, because he didn’t want to go flying again at the moment given his present condition…Although he actually trusted Bubbles to be able to carry him steadily without jostling him around and aggravating his injuries—and such a flight would be way quicker than any other mode of transport—he felt like it was the wind whipping against his bruised and broken skin that would really do him in. Even if a car ride might be a little bumpier than a Powerpuff girl’s shooting-star flight path, it felt like the better choice for now. Morty relaxed into his girlfriend’s soothing touch as she rubbed her thumb against his hand and called for a lift. By the time they got into the car, he actually was feeling tired enough to rest as Bubbles advised him to. Besides, he never would have turned down a chance to lean against her when offered.
It wasn’t until they arrived home that Morty’s brain caught up with his body. “Wait—Ferdie!” he exclaimed, almost jolting alert from the half-asleep state of fogginess he had fallen into during the car ride. The sudden motion of sitting up made him feel sick and achy, and he regretted it immediately, but he had a bigger regret to worry about. He hadn’t warned his brother of the state he was in and they were home now, Bubbles gently trying to wake him to get out of the car. He was just going to walk in like this and scare the daylights out of his twin. “I didn’t text Ferdie,” he complained to Bubbles as he followed her out of the cab and to the door. “He’s gonna freak out…” Ferdie’s ‘freak-out’ looked like this: when they entered the apartment, he said, “What—beg your pardon—the fuck?” After being told exactly what had happened to leave Morty looking like he’d gotten steamrolled, he gave his brother a sympathetic pat on the back and asked, “Did you tell our moms?”
Morty groaned. “Can you? They’re gonna freak out…” He fell back onto leaning against Bubbles, now on the couch instead of the backseat of a car, finding a position to snuggle her in that hurt the least. Ferdie drafted a message to send in their family group chat, worded as to worry their mothers the least. “Ma’s probably going to be proud of you for standing up for your values,” Ferdie muttered as he sent the text. “And Mom’s going to have a heart attack,” Morty replied, in a tone that suggested he didn’t think all this was even that big of a deal, but knew that his family would feel otherwise. “Bets on how many pies Aunt Minnie is gonna bake you?” Ferdie challenged, letting Bubbles into the conversation by flashing her a smile and then an invitation. “Are you gonna stay with him tonight?” Morty squeezed her knee where his good hand rested in a silent suggestion.
As Morty rested, the Powerpuff once again allowed herself to get lost within her thoughts. While thankfully the injuries her boyfriend has weren’t as severe as she had feared they would be, a newfound worry came to mind—Will something like this happen again? She may have been able to stop Boomer from hurting Morty far worst than he got to this time, but what if he tries to hurt him for a second time? After all, just because the Rowdyruff had decided to take the ‘L’ and leave on his own today, does not mean that he will back down the next chance he gets. And if he did try for another chance to hurt her boyfriend, would Bubbles be able to come in time again or stop any of it from happening? Clutching her boyfriend as firmly as she could without irritating any of his wounds or waking him up, the blonde hoped she would be able to stop any potential danger. Even if Boomer doesn’t try for a second attack, there were other villains out there who could bring harm to Morty—eviler villains who not only hated the Powerpuff herself, but ones who hated both her and her sisters, and those types of bad guys would go to great lengths to hurt them as possible. Like targeting the one’s they loved.
As soon as they arrived at his home and her boyfriend suddenly mentioned his twin brother’s name, Bubbles cursed at herself. “Stupid Bubbles! I knew there was something I forgot to do!” She claimed at herself, the blonde realizing how she has yet to inform anyone of what happened today. She had been so overly focused on the fact that Morty had gotten hurt, it completely escaped her that she should have called Ferdie or their moms and tell them what had happened. She should have told him that he had injuries at the very least! “It’s okay, I forgot to text him myself. I’m sorry, I should’ve let him know.” The blonde apologized as the front door was unlocked. She braced herself for whatever freak out Ferdie may have, which ended up with the younger twin noticing the state his brother was in and uttering a ‘the fuck’ at them. Bubbles allowed Morty to explain everything, adding in anything until Ferdie was finally in the know-how of it all. By the time they finished, the couple was resting against the couch, the Powerpuff frowning a little at the mention of their moms. She sure hoped they won’t freak out; she really tried her best to protect Morty as she possibly could.
“If you don’t mind.” Bubbles replied to Ferdie, her hand placing itself once again over Morty’s out of instincts. It’s not like she hasn’t stayed the night at their place before, and she knew that Ferdie really didn’t mind that she stayed, but either way it would ease her mind if she stayed here with Morty. “I don’t think I can leave him just yet.” The blonde admitted, knowing that her mind would only continue to race with even more worries if she did. Sure, she knew the chances of anything else happening was slim if she were to head back home instead, and she did trust that both Ferdie and Dewey could protect Morty just in case, but—“I’ll just shoot both Blossom and Buttercup a text and let them know I’m here.” Not like it was totally necessary as Bubbles was sure her sisters expected for her to have stayed the night at Morty’s anyways. The original planned was for them to go on a date after all. “Actually, I should give them a call. They should know what happened.” She glanced back at her boyfriend, making sure he was all right with her telling her sisters before she did anything.
Hearing Bubbles say she loved him was enough to send Morty’s heart into overdrive. He had wanted to hear those words from her—in this context—for too long. Though the rest of their conversation leading up to this had been virtually equivalent to her expressing that, it still almost felt like a dream when she actually did: too good to be true. She loved him, and not only as a friend (because it was different to know they loved each other when they thought it was only platonic affection flowing between them; this was so much more.) To even hear her say that she had always loved him, it truly didn’t sound real. He didn’t want to doubt her, but he had spent the past five years convinced that Bubbles had never really wanted him like that, and thinking that way was a hard habit to break overnight. Morty couldn’t deny this, though: she wanted him to make love to her, and he wanted nothing more than the same.
He gladly obliged with her wish—not fucking her, not having sex, but making love to his girlfriend—showing his utter devotion to her physically, putting all the adoration he’d saved up for her into it. Morty let her choose the pace, speeding up when she wanted it faster, slowing down when she needed to and going harder once she approached her second climax. After throwing the condom out, he collapsed back next to Bubbles, pulling her into his arms to snuggle and kissing her head. He would stay here in this moment with her forever if possible—but if not, one night would have to suffice.
After begging for him to make love to her, Bubbles allowed herself to finally get lost within the fuzziness and incoherentness of the moment. The only focus she could make was on the way Morty was making her feel. The way he was thrusting within her making the Powerpuff tremble—feeling so good and so right being here with him—The blonde didn’t want this moment to come to an end. For that, she wanted the pace to start off slow as they had all night to completely let loose and go wild, but eventually she asked for him to go faster. A second round was definitely in the back of her mind, the blonde sleepily thinking of how he focused so much on her this entire time and so she wanted to return the favor the next round. But they both definitely needed to take a quick power nap first before going at it again. An hour nap and then round two, she thought, shuffling even closer to the brunette before she pressed a small kiss against his collarbone. They have so much of the night left after all~
-THE NEXT DAY-
It was around ten in the morning when the blonde found herself waking up. The sunlight peaking through the blinds of the hotel room keeping her from opening her eyes. Instead, she buried her face against the closes thing to her which happened to have been Morty’s chest, for she was still cuddled up close with his arms firmly holding her against him. Still half asleep, Bubbles relaxed at the warm feeling of his body, tempted to fall right back into dreamland until she finally pried her eyes open. There, she glanced up and caught sight of his sleeping face. The blondes heart fluttered. He looked so calm and peaceful. Her blue eyes then began to trial down to all the hickies and marks she had left on him from the night before— a reminder that last night did in fact happen. Biting her bottom lip, she hoped that this meant that everything they said to each other last night was true too. Of Bubbles asking Morty to be her boyfriend again and of their love confessions they made to one another. When he wakes up, he’s not going to regret any of it, would he? Lightly tracing a heart against his chest, the Powerpuff really hoped he wouldn’t. Her actions must have woken him up because a minute later, he moved in his sleep before his gaze caught her own. “Good morning.”
