i did a small lawlight writing practice originally intended to be 300 words. alas, it is 1k+. so i'll post it on tumblr instead! this idea came to me because in my (asian) culture, parents dont typically say apologies, instead they opt to apologize through feeding their children fruit. i actually don't know the reason why they do this. i feel like light would do this, though, in his own weird little way. it might be a bit ooc but let me have sort-of-domestic lawlight please. (also i pasted this directly from my obsidian notes and i forgot to capitalize a lot of things. yeah)
summary: apologies did not exist in the yagami house, and they did not exist in the house where kira and lawliet coexisted together. regardless, Light finds himself in the kitchen slicing strawberries from the market.
when L and Light got into a heated argument, Light didn't know how to apologize. given his own nature, L doesn't expect it from him at all; they were prideful creatures. His father was not a person who showed such affectionate feelings for Light when he grew up. those words were reserved for his younger sister who had a soft young heart-- albeit his mother wanted to argue that Light had a softer heart than Sayu ever did, simply tucked away by his own pride and fears of being seen as less of a person for feeling sore over stupid arguments. Souichirou instead would come to Light in silence with nothing but a knock in his bedroom and plate of sliced fruit laying on the table. Apologies did not exist in the yagami house, and they did not exist in the house where Kira and Lawliet coexisted together. regardless, Light finds himself in the kitchen slicing strawberries from the market.
The strawberries are cut in half, simple bite sized pieces the way L liked them as. although Light was actually in the wrong this time around, his own pride did not like the idea of L winning this stupid argument. Both of them spoke bluntly and never skirted around words-- that was mostly Light when he needed to sugarcoat something, L was never one to do such a thing. Light was most truthful when terrible words spilled out of him-- an image truly unlike a proper son-- and even though they had both gotten used to such a way of talking with one another, L's face once Light finished was quite unforgettable. it was not pleasurable seeing him look like that. When light had dreams of killing L, it was a face he could never get sick of looking; this emotion on L's had to disappear.
And it did, and it was replaced with one of L's facades similar to Light's-- where he hid himself back into a monotonous expression and only replied to Light in small instances and kept the distance between them far, far, away, despite living in the same home together.
Perhaps Light did not enjoy how the guilt had been eating up at his stomach in the entire day, to the point his breakfast tasted sour without the sickening sweetness of L's presence in front of him in their shared dinner table. Holding a plate of strawberries in one hand and his heart on another, Light trudged his way with a heavy heart and a beaten down stomach to the battlefield of L's room-- his very own, because L refused to work in the shared space they had today. It was a dark room absent of any sunlight yet filled with blue light reflecting off of the walls. paper scattered all over in L's own system that Light does not want to touch unless he wants to see L never look his way ever again.
Light's presence did not go unnoticed; he could tell in his approach towards L how the detective jumped a bit from the noise before settling into that state of upset once again. Wordlessly, he slid the strawberries besides L's crouching figure on the floor. Light bit the flesh of his cheeks and looked away, words of i'm sorry, and any synonyms of an apology appear in his mind yet burn when they reach his throat. His stomach felt like it would sink further into the endless abyss of his own emotions, nausea close to hitting him as the silence between them elongated. Neither of them made the effort to talk, not L, and most certainly not a an equally just-as-prideful Light Yagami. He would take any reaction from L: if he'd throw the plate of strawberries on light's head and called him stupid, Light would take it. If L would order him to grovel and beg, perhaps he might be convinced. But if L did not take his neatly-sliced strawberries, and instead turned his attention back to his laptop, Light felt like he might just find wherever L hid the death notes, write his own name inside them, and then kill himself.
"Light," L says, cutting off light's train of thought-- he jumps in surprise as he whips his head to look at L, who was staring up at him, chewing on a strawberry. "come take a look at this," he points to his laptop where a video was paused and pressed play.
L talked as the footage played, "she walks in this building at around 8 am. she's wearing a black printed tee and some jeans, now look; in this footage three days later, she walks out."
Finally, Light finds himself back in old routine. his shoulders loosen as he crouches down right next to L, watching the grainy footage replay over and over again between the different date stamps. "Strangely enough, police found her body in an alleyway in that very same day she left." L reaches over the plate to feed a strawberry in his mouth before he finally looks at Light properly: "what do you think?"
Oh, oh, finally. He missed those eyes staring at him, looking at him as if he has the answer L couldn't piece yet. His heart stuttered before he could compose himself properly. "Maybe that's somebody posing as her? You can't see her face here exactly. Are you sure the footage isn't fabricated?"
L shook his head, another strawberry going down the hatch. "No, I've asked watari for the original, uncut feed. I watched through all seventy-two hours of footage and compiled these."
"Why don't we watch them together, then? I might see something you didn't."
"Very well," L says without any fight at all, closing the window and opening a folder filled with footage for all of those seventy-two hours. Light found himself acting before thinking. He scoots closer to L's side until their bodies brushed and warmed hotter than the running electronics around them. He leans his head on L's shoulder until overgrown messy black hair tickles his ears and kisses his cheeks; He could hear L's body thrum and beat with life, could hear the vibrations in his throat at the delighted hum that rumbled as Light rested his body next to him; and when Light was unsure of where to put his other hand, L took it in his own wordlessly, his own calloused palm pressed against light's own sweaty well-groomed hand, their fingertips intertwined. Tan against pale.
His stomach no longer sank, replaced by a strange kind of fondness as his eyelids drooped halfway, the tip of L's thumb stroking the back of Light's hand. This argument, and perhaps this very moemnt was something neither of them would ever bring up. Not because it didn't matter, but because they weren't the kind of people to discuss such things. No, Light Yagami was the type of person to slice fruits as an apology, and L Lawliet was the type of person to take his offering as forgiveness.
“whos the top and bottom in lawlight?” no one. they’re having sex in such unconventional and freakishly unheard of ways that there’s no feasible way it could ever be categorised into labels like that. what they do is beyond understanding. but also L tops
although L has unmatchable verse energy (verse both penetrates and gets penetrated for those who are not aware), he is brat tamer extraordinaire and it just so happens Light is the ultimate brat bottom sub.
I just recently realized one of my favorite lawlight fanfiction had been deleted, which was very devastating. I can't find the author's profile anywhere nor their reasons for deleting the fanfiction. Unfortunately the wayback machine didn't get to save a snapshot of this fic and multiple fics I've loved from this author. If someone has a copy of this fic that would be really appreciated!!

If we’re taking L saying “I’m actually pretty good at this,” at face value, how would he even know he’s good at giving foot massages? Did he practice it with himself, liked how it felt, and that’s how he developed his foot fetish? Did he massage someone else’s toes??? Whose feet did he even massage? This is a genuine question
