Katara doesn’t forgive Yon Rha and hug him and dry him off and walk him home she leaves him scared and sniveling and crying in the mud but she leaves him alive because she realized in that moment that she was only doing this because she felt like she had to. She hates this man, therefore she should want to kill him, right? The narrative isn’t saying wow Katara killing a mass murdering fascist dickwad is just as bad as said dickwad killing an innocent wife and mother during a raid on her home, it’s saying wow isn’t it fucked up that this little girl has been forced to carry this deep seated anger in her for most of her life to the point where the only outlet she believes she has for it is killing a man in cold blood? And like… yeah! That is pretty fucked!

And you know what ELSE is pretty fucked? That a 12 year old survivor of a genocide be told, over and over again that in order to bring balance and peace to the world he needs to go against the central tenants of his culture. Yeah, there didnt seem to be any other way than killing Ozai to stop the war but by constantly telling this kid that lethal violence, the same method used against his people by the fire nation, is the only path forward was indeed, very fucked!

FUCK, The ATLA shipping war is starting again...

And both sides still suck and make the fandom a hell hole.

I've seen a big uptick in anti kataang posts immediately and I've seen an uptick in anti zutara posts too. More anti kataang than anti Zutara on Tumblr but much more anti Zutara on other platforms.

I've also seen just this kinda post too on both sides. "Oh the zutaraians are so mad, while kataangers just blah blah blah"

"Oh the kataangers are so mad, why Zutara is just "blah blah blah".

Fucking annoying.

Shipping wars are the worst part of the fandom. Anti bryke, anti Kataang, Anti Zutara, all of it. It all sucks. Most of the arguments from antis are weird as shit with huge character assassination and barely any actual points.

Look, I love Kataang, its one of my favorite ships for a myriad of reasons. Zutara, its a brotp for me but I totally get why y'all love it. Good chemistry and an interesting tie into the character arcs and the overall plot. If they went in a romantic direction, it would have been beautiful. Its still beautiful to me as a friendship but I understand love for it as a OTP.

And look, arguing about where kataang and zutara are weak in the story is fine. I like those, those can be fun. But anti shit. The anti shit. Sucks. Always. Toxic. Always.

The movie is going to be fun and cool and full character motivations.

Leave the shipping wars in the trash where it belongs.

the whole episode was spent establishing that mark s is his own person with his own life and that love does not, actually, transcend severance, and he knows that he’s gonna have to go upstairs eventually so he doesn’t have much time left and of course he’s going to want to spend it with the woman he loves, and people are still like “hehehe sorry gemma markhelly won” and I feel like I’m going insane. mark s/helly won. mark scout/gemma won. they just hammered it into us that innie and outie mark both have lives with the same value!!! this isn’t a ship war!!! Man, poor Helly. One moment she's being tackled for advocating for her fellow severed friends, talking about the torture they go through. And the next moment she is drowning in a cold river only to be pulled out and watch one of her friends die. Going from trying to save her family to having to watch one of them go forever.

also Aang is literally white with this character design. Idkkk it’s a little odd how Bryke loves to claim that no one is white but then design characters like that + the cast of both shows is overwhelmingly white.

disclaimer: I full heartedly believe no one is white (tho as an asian myself, it is sus that the two white creators used Asia as an aesthetic for their show..) tho Bryke’s actions don’t reflect their words.
