Humans can be pretty extravagant in that sense, always needing to do something to make use of their time or money. Or maybe it's to give their life some sense of meaning in the little things, otherwise the larger things would make it mundane? I'm surprised that you're shocked a stranger would be interested in, and demanding of, help but I can also be bribed with a donut as long as it's plain. I never was a fan of them. Are you always so direct in asking people personal things?

It was more the 'demanding of help' that shocked me. Yes, I put it out there that I was willing, but I didn't expect someone to demand my time on something that was totally unrelated to what I had offered in the first place. I ask because your whole demeanor comes across as very dominant, demanding, and entitled, and while I initiated this post intending to get or do some service submission, I have to say I don't think I'd be comfortable doing dominance or submission with you.

It’s just his luck to move to a walkable little town that snowed beyond probability. Or maybe he’s being dramatic about it- he has always been one for theatrics in the privacy of closed spaces. Much less acting and more so frustration: he’s a well earned crashout. But he’s quiet now in the small clinic wing of the hospital, and he can feel the headache building at the sight of a blizzard rampaging through their parking lot. The weather had predicted some snow, and yet, there it was piling up with only one plow to suffice.

He’s normally quiet about his disappointments: he knows how to drive but driving in the snow is much different than what he’s used to, and even so– his old, cheap car is gathering dust in a parking spot half-way across town. The bus is a last futile attempt and even then, it fails him. Maybe it’s a reminder that he needs to take life a little slower, and this is the world’s way of slowing him down, but the anxiety of being stuck somewhere with building weather conditions has him on edge.

It’s nothing a cigarette can’t fix. He wanders around the lobby a little bit after closing, most of the residents knowing how to handle the weather better than him. He stands there waiting for someone to come through and slowly stalks over to the first person that finally emerges through the double doors. He gestures to him, as calm as ever, despite the T-30 seconds he has left.

“Look at the snow, can you believe it?” He starts out with polite conversation first before then requesting. “Do you have a lighter?”

Ilon had just finished dropping a patient off in the emergency room and made his way to the staff room to get himself a cup of coffee. The sleet, freezing rain, and snow had made for treacherous driving conditions, especially when driving fast in an ambulance trying to save someone's life. It wasn't something that bothered Ilon; they had lived in Boston for ten years at this point, and it wasn't the first or last time they would experience weather such as this, but it had made for a busy day so far, and they didn't see that changing for a bit.

They made their way down the hallway and stepped outside the doors. Ilon didn't know how long they would have before they were called out on another call, but for now, they were going to enjoy the time they had. They refused to say the word quiet; that would just jinx things. For a moment, Ilon's eyes watched the snow drift down, the cool air nipped at his cheeks, and the cold was in contrast to the steaming hot cup of coffee in their hand. They had predicted something like 1.3 inches of snow today, which, for Boston, wasn't a ridiculous amount, but that, combined with the ice and sleet, was enough to cause a lot of issues today.

"I don't think the snow is that bad; it's the ice that's going to cause a lot of issues today," they replied and took a sip of their coffee. "No, I don't smoke. Sorry," he said and then added, "I'm Ilon. I've seen you around, but I don't think we've actually met."

Not being used to the snow until now often meant he didn’t think about it practically; of course ice was the biggest issue. A lot of the older people tended to come to the hospital with slips and worries of bruising and fractures that he’s seen and he himself has been victim to the occasional ice patch. It was hard to tell what would be slippery and what wouldn’t but while it was still an amazing thing, that the Earth could be so still and silent under the tiniest molecules of an unpredictable weather pattern, it was still detestable. He didn’t know how much snow they would get or how they even predicted it because so often it wasn’t accurate or correct. Snow seemed like a threat since half the time it became flurries that melted away and he had very little faith in the meteorologists in this town.

He makes a face but doesn’t say anything in response to that; most people here didn’t smoke because it wasn’t good for the patients or themselves; but he couldn’t fully let the habit go. It was an occasional thing. He didn’t make a habit of smoking daily, and he kept his ignorance dulled with the idea that genetics was the only thing that could catch up to him, and it made him feel a little better. “It’s better that you don’t, honestly. It’s a terrible habit and I can’t imagine it would work well with being a paramedic.” He hadn’t been expecting much conversion but it would do better than a lighter. He twirls the cigarette between his fingers, a little embarrassed at the genuine truth.

“I’m Kitt. I’m just a clinical resident, so I don’t believe we would have met before this. You are a paramedic, correct?”

The sudden and brisk arrival of true winter weather was extremely welcomed in Kit’s world. All seasons had their appeal to him, whether the aesthetic or the apparel, but he was finding himself finally getting used to the Boston winters after being warned about them so long. They used to be painful and frightful but now they give him a sense of sudden mental alertness and a cozy feel to the pretty town that he inhabits. Morning walks with coffee become his new routine now that he’s not terrified to face the cold winds or the flurries that frequent the skies.

It makes going out between classes or between clinic sessions easier and more pleasant. Like now, with the frisky weather, heading to one of the Ramen shops that he genuinely trusted in the area after a class. He’d grown up in high-class societies that prevented him from feeling like food could be more than a hobby, but the place was good, warm and familiar, and he liked the staff. Going out and about and being able to recognize faces made him feel a little more grounded–ironic enough to say it about the staff and not figure he’d be running into someone else once he entered. To be perceived and to be wanted is both a terrifying and whimsical thing and he hopes that the whimsical part is showing on his face when he slowly approaches his friend, still adjusting to the bursting change in temperature when he enters. He goes to unbutton his coat slowly, giving himself time to speak.

“Wyatt, hello. I didn’t expect to see you here, what a lovely surprise. I wouldn’t mind joining you if you’re sure you’d want to.”

Wyatt wasn't offended as Kitt took his time coming over to him and responding. He didn't want the other man to feel pressured in any way. Wyatt would enjoy his company, yes, but he would also be fine sitting alone if Kitt preferred not to sit with him. Other people's comfort mattered to him.

"Likewise," Wyatt agreed easily with a smile. He had not expected to run into anyone that he knew here. "Yes, of course, please." Wyatt replied without hesitation and then added, "Unless you'd rather eat alone. No pressure." They called his name at the counter, and Wyatt moved from his chair to walk up and get the ramen bowl he ordered. He hoped that it might give Kitt the moment to decide without feeling any pressure. The smell hit his nose, and Wyatt inhaled deeply. It smelled so good; there was no doubt in his mind that it would taste just as good.

As Wyatt approached the table again, he carefully set down the ramen. "How have you been?" He asked, and as he spoke, his eyes flicked up to meet Kitt's. He then carefully used the chopsticks to pick up some noodles, hunching over as he brought them to his mouth.

He appreciated the thoughtful gesture and he wasn't one to turn down an invitation, to avoid any conflicted feelings but solo outings tended to be romanticized here. While he likes it, he didn't particularly want to eat alone; it tended to be more awkward for him and the superstitions that followed him from home always lingered in the back of his mind. Running into someone he knew was a blessing in disguise, and a friend in particular, was good luck. He would take it as that. He let the other go for a minute, sliding his briefcase down under the seat as he chose to sit. Wyatt was always a patient person and he appreciated that he didn't get fidgety about it. He waits to help pull out the chair for his friend upon his return, not wanting him to spill his food. He looks at him for a moment before he watches for the chopsticks, curious to see the others skill before continuing in a hushed voice. "I've been good, just busy with work. Teaching is a lot different than I thought it would be, but my papers haven't been too much of a hassle. How have you been? Especially since the good news...?"

Everyday is a National Holiday in order to achieve some goal, but this might be the nicest one I've seen yet since Free Donut Day... however, no, I won't be participating since I keep my desk clean and organize it every week. I do, however, need help rifling through a bookshelf to donate books: So see you on February 20th.

That's probably totally true. We celebrate pretty much anything, don't we? I wouldn't say no to free donut day either, haha. That's cool. Wow, I gotta say, that was not what I was expecting; it's not really what I offered, but I suppose I can. I don't think I have anything going on other than work that day. I'll check back with you once we hit February, as it's still a good way away. So, are you a dominant then?

Rounding a corner, Cam pulled his hands from his pockets and glanced at the watch wrapped around his right wrist to ensure plenty of time remained before his movie started. Glancing up, he stopped abruptly in front of the movie theater, lost within his own world. Suddenly he felt another collide with his back, nearly knocking him off his feet. Throwing his arms out in an attempt to balance himself, he shuffled forward a few steps before finally righting himself once more.

Turning on is heel, Cameron immediately made his way back towards the scene, determined to ensure the other was okay. "Ohmygosh!" He exclaimed, the words jumbling. "I'm so sorry! That was totally my fault, all day. Are you alright?" Reaching forward, he placed his hand briefly on the other person's elbow, attempting to help them steady themselves. "I swear I don't know why the hell they let me out the door in the morning!"

Adjusting to the city from a small town hadn't been easy at first, but eventually, Kitt grew used to it over the years. So much so, that it was finally easy to navigate the streets using his unconscious mind and schedule, muscle memory according for most things that he's used to coming to and from. Of course, the skill of being aware of his surroundings is less than optimal and something he’s working on. Mindlessly wandering has become a part of his life too quickly and leads to disastrous results. 

The second is his own strength; he surprises himself at times when it goes unchecked, like now, and he shocks himself with what feels like a bad shoulder-check of a stranger as he rounds a corner. He tries to steady himself with his feet on the ground, the pavement’s ice patches simply shadows from where they’ve finally melted, but his bag has him unsteady. He stills at the hand on the arm of his jacket, freezing as the stranger clambers over to him just in case the confrontation isn’t a cautious one, taking a small but slow step back.

“I’m perfectly fine, it’s alright,” he says quietly, fingers finding the strap to his bag, adjusting it over his shoulder. “I wasn’t paying attention to what was in front of me. Are you okay?”

You see yourself so clearly that you can see the gaping hole inside you where you lost a piece long ago. It's there and it's ragged and painful and bleeding and you don't know how no one else can see it when it takes up so much of your awareness. You run from it, fight it, try to find it but nothing bandages up that hungry mawing void inside yourself and when you're tired, uninspired, you swear it grows and grows. You promise yourself you want to be alone, promise yourself that you want to be different, want to be special, love having this hole inside you and point it out in words or song or jokes and stories and take pride in that pain, in your uniqueness in this world of grays and storm clouds. You are 5 am rain on asphalt roads and sputtering street lamps. You are petrichor musings and messy guitar chords and a thousand contradictions wrapped inside a quiet cry, an evening of coffee and jittering hands and a promise that you're okay or that you're fine until you're falling apart in someone's arms or messages and pretend you're alright in the morning. You taste so strongly but sometimes you wonder if all you are is ash.

Wyatt & Kitt 01/05/26

The cold air nipped at Wyatt's face as he walked carefully on the sidewalk toward Hello Ramen, not wanting to slip and fall on a patch of ice if he could help it. He opened the door, and warmth enveloped him as he stepped toward the counter to place his order. As far as ramen went, Hello Ramen was his favorite place; it was casual but so good, and he didn't need food to be fancy as long as it tasted good.

While they prepared his order, Wyatt moved to an empty table and began to unbundle himself. He removed his gloves, revealing the wedding ring on his finger, and then removed his scarf, revealing the Claim collar around his neck. A hand went up to touch it for a moment. It still felt surreal at times that he was now a claimed and married man, and in twelve days, he and Master Forrest would be celebrating their two-month anniversary.

The submissive removed his coat and tucked his scarf and gloves inside the sleeve before he hung it on the back of the chair he intended to occupy. When the door opened, Wyatt couldn't help but look over. A grin appeared on his face as he saw his friend, Kitt. "Hey, Kitt!" Wyatt greeted the other man cheerfully. "How are you?
