The Hobbit by ģ»“ķ°ź³ ģ³/ģ“ė§
possibly my favorite trope in the hobbit fics is the dwarves underestimating a hobbitās appetite and either fretting that theyāve been starving bilbo or worried that he has some kind of eating disorder
Bilbo: *stuffing his face as only hobbits can and oblivious*
Thorin: *acting majestic but having internal panic attack* have we not been feeding him enough?
FĆli: where do you suppose heās putting it all?
KĆli: do you think heāll explode
Such a sassy little thing, i'll have to think of a better riddle for you!
ā Well, not to brag, but I would say I am good at riddles from⦠Personal experience. ā
What does a wicked chicken lay?
Ā Ā Ā ā Deviled eggs, come nowācertainly you can riddle me better than that. ā

Thorin: What ? People actually tell their crushes they like them ?
Fili: What the hell do YOU do ?
Thorin: I die ? What kind of question-

For a moment, all Thorin could do was blink in surprise at Beldaās attempts to try and get the dwarf to move as the hobbit lass willed. She knew the hobbit could be a stubborn creature in her own right when the will struck her but this wasā¦new. And Thorin couldnāt be bothered to be annoyed at the attempt because she was just struck with the futility of it all.
The urge to hoist the hobbit over her shoulder and continue on their way was strong but Thorin would hold off for another moment more. Belda could very well wear herself out in a moment or two.
āIād stay in terms of stubbornness, Mistress Baggins, we are equally matched here,ā Thorin observed, glancing down at the hobbit with a raised, unimpressed brow.Ā āWe would have already boarded the river in the time it took you to try and force me to move, I hope you realize.ā
Belda liked to think of herself as reasonable as any hobbit, well--- maybe not quite so, considering that sheād run out of her doors to follow a troop of dwarves on a foolhardy quest halfway across the world. But she was most definitely a sensible hobbit, and every sensible hobbit knew better than to attempt crossing a river with no bridge or boat. She wasnāt sure of dwarves, but her kind tended to sink straight to the bottom and more often than not, never come back up.Ā
āJust as well we could have been up and around it in the same manner!ā She breathed out, heaving again with all of her tiny might. She swore she heard KĆli and FĆli laugh from somewhere to their backs. Sheād deal with them later.Ā
So, perhaps she was afraid. Or embarrassed to admit that she couldnāt swim. Whos to say really. She had the idea that made more sense! Better to be safe than sorry. āWhy risk it when it would be much safer to-- to-- to simply walk around it?!ā
Elrond had been watching Bilbo struggle for perhaps longer than necessary. Although he didnāt particularly enjoy seeing a Hobbit in difficulty, he found himself secretly amused by the cross - but somehow still extremely polite - exclamations that emerged from the Hobbitās lips.
āBut of course, Master Baggins,ā said Elrond, unable to keep a smile off his face. He asked the pony to hold still and lightly placed his hands on Bilboās waist, stabilising him so that he could dismount safely.
āAnd how was your journey here?ā
He had to remind himself that elves werenāt exactly the touchy-type, and keep his hands to himself. Still, it always was a little disorienting to be handled so easily, and Bilbo tried his very best not to cling as he used Elrondās hands to help himself down. It wasnāt quite the most graceful dismount in all of history, but so long as his feet were on the ground and he was in one piece, he couldnāt really complain! Bilbo sucked in a deep breath and puffed it out, straightening his travelling clothes with a huff.Ā
āNot quite nearly as eventful as it was coming here the first time Iāll admit.ā He said finally, after a moments thought. Bilbo turned his chin up to the elven lord and felt his lips twitch in a sadder, half smile.Ā āI wasnāt used to the... The quiet.āĀ
Meaning, it had been lonely travelling alone with only Gandalf for company, rather than a troop of dwarves.

Of all of the places there were to travel, all of the nooks and crannies of Middle-earth there were to explore, the one place Tauriel had rarely thought to set foot in was the Shire. Just as it was not her place to return to Mirkwood, the Shire was full of people living their lives, people who should not be disturbed by an outsider. She was of the impression that the Hobbits, for the most part, did not get visitors outside of their own lands. She did not wish to cause a scene.
And yet the rolling hills were so peaceful-looking, clear and green and untouched. Sat upon a fence along the border of the Shire, Tauriel looked across at a bustling townscape far in the distance. Resting her chin in her hand, the elleth wished she had somewhere she belonged again.
For Bilbo Baggins, the morning had not been so quiet. Hair only slightly greyed with age, he currently had two armfuls of hobbit toddlers and was in the process of shooing the other three from his once tranquil home. Peregrin Took had a handful of his curls in his chubby little hand and was shrieking with laughter as he attempted to chase after the bratās olders sisters. Theyād come for stories, and heād of course obliged, settling down with Frodo in his lap, and hadnāt noticed them getting into Belladonnaās glory box until it was far too late. Pearl, the oldest of the trio, had his helmet from Laketown in her hands and the other two were dragging out what had been one of Filiās many daggers.Ā
āGirls! Girls, you come back this instant! If your mother sees-- Oh bother.ā Bilbo said, grumbling as he hoisted Frodo and Peregrin higher onto his hips. He did not even notice the flame haired elf just off on the top of the hill next to his home. āJust-- Donāt cut off a finger, or stab each other if you please! Iām in fairly good standing with your parents and Iād like to keep it that way.ā
Look what Enerjax drew for me! Isnāt it awesome?
