His maroon, alien cape gently fluttered in the breeze; the only sound produced by his being as he studied her face and features.

Although it might be considered that she had a slight attitude, he pushed that thought away, for he had a single question he wanted - no, needed - to ask her.

Her potential answer weighed heavier on him than a million of the concrete slabs.

“I’ve… Never seen you around before. Are you… Human?”

Could there possibly more Kryptonians out there, he wondered.

His eyes fixed on her wrist, watching in real time as she healed the broken carpal bones and tendons.

“Please educate me how helping you out is being sexist?”

Yennefer gave a look of are you serious? At the question. “ Do you ask all the women that? ” She asked “because you must be such a ladies man.” sarcasm, again. Though Yennefer knew that she had to be honest, her hands falling back to her side. “partially human.. I’m quarter elf. My father was half elf. The human race has forgotten about elves, they were here before humans until they decided to practically diminish their race ” Yennefer explained “I’m a mage.. A witch, whatever it is you want to call it. ”

Yennefer gave a small raise of her brow seeing the confusion in her statement, she took a few steps forward toward him “You saw a woman and thought she couldn’t handle it let’s help her out ” Yennefer commented, oh he already vexed her. “As I said.. I was handling it. If it wasn’t for me those people would have already been crushed by this building, if I hadn’t used that slowing spell on that concrete it would have come down a lot quicker ” Eyes scanned his own her features unamused, unimpressed unlike everyone else it seemed outside who was praising his victory. Yen turned her head to the noise, motioning him to the cheers she wanted to be out of the rubble perhaps just as much as he did.

“ your crowd awaits you Mister ??.. ” She listened to his name, Superman, Superman.. They were cheering, she stepped out of the rubble the crowd starting to gather around their hero “ I’ll see you around Superman. ”

Yennefer sipped on her champagne, eyes searching the people although when she saw Clark she found herself wanting to hide. Though as she went to make her escape her friend Sabrina stopped her in her tracks. “Yennefer!” she called, Yen gave a smile hugging the blonde. “Sabrina, I wasn’t expecting to see you here” Sabrina too was also part of the chapter, a list of mages across Metropolis and other parts of the country.

“You look like you want to hide” She noted, though Yennefer gave a frustrated sigh “Who wouldn’t? I’m just waiting for the men to flock their way” Sabrina gave a small laugh, though she nodded her head to Kent. “Although he looks to be nice, why don’t you say hi to him?”

Violet eyes rolled “Absolutely not. Not my type, men are only after one thing and that’s either sex or a wife.. Or both and honestly I’m not up for either of those things tonight” She explained taking another sip. Sabrina gave a raise of her brow “I’m getting you to meet” Yen went to object but it was too late.

She walked toward Clark a smile on her face, “My friend over there noticed you and wants to say hello” Sabrina motioned toward Yennefer, who was currently leaning on the wall one arm crossed as the other held her drink up. Sabrina followed with Clark to Yennefer, violet hues met Kent and a slight frown instantly formed. For some reason he just.. Irked her. “I’ll leave you two to chat. Yennefer behave.. ” Oh she was definitely going to get Sabrina back.

“I was hoping to avoid you this evening” Yennefer admitted bluntly, features unchanging looking up toward Clark briefly.

Clark stood off to the side of the bar, blue irises scanning the crowd. For about four and a half minutes the reporter did his job and made mental notes about the party (y’know, for his job)…

… A specific - now familiar - voice reached his eardrums. He heard her like they stood shoulder-to-shoulder apart, yet he knew she was all-the-way across the room.

Pretending to write in his fancy leather-bound notepad, he couldn’t help the half-smirk that fixed on his lips.

Eventually, Sabrina brought Yennifer to him, and he pretended to be surprised to see her.

“Why were you hoping to avoid me? I promise not to ask you to an interview if you answer a singular question for me: what can I call you?”

Yennefer took another sip of the champagne, he still wanted to know her name.. Violet eyes looked up toward him giving a soft sigh “Yennefer.. My name is Yennefer” She responded begrudgingly, though guessed that he’d find it out anyway. “I was hoping to avoid you because reporters such as yourself tend to want just the gossip and the scandal and in a place like this where you have all the important people and high society class in one room.. Well I’m sure you can put two and two together.” other people were boring in Yennefer’s eyes.

“any other person here would be flocking at a chance for an interview, to promote whatever it is they’re doing next.. But that’s the thing about others.. Everyone else is boring” Yennefer took another sip of the wine, violet eyes scanning the room again before looking back to Clark. “You really do look familiar Mr Kent and I am sure it isn’t because you were in that crowd earlier” Yennefer noted, no.. He had the same coloured eyes as the man in the red cape.

It was only then did Yennefer see Tissaia head into the room. Now that was a woman she had no intention of meeting tonight “Oh shit..” She commented placing her drink down she took hold of Clark without thinking hiding behind in what appeared to be a closest room though she kept the door ajar so that she could peer out. Yennefer usually didn’t mind confronting her old mentor but tonight she just wanted to try and avoid her at all costs. That scent again of lilac and gooseberries on her skin although Yennefer could smell the after shave on Clark, it was nice she had to admit. “I swear if you write about this in your paper Clark I will have your head”

“”Yennefer,”” he repeated after her, tasting the unusual name on his tongue. Unique. He never heard anything like it. It fits her.

“Well… That is certainly apart of the duties of the job but… You’ll find that I’m not like most reporters out there. I know when to ask questions, and when to keep my mouth shut.”

Although the room (and surrounding city block) was near deafening to ultra-sensitive hearing like Clark’s, he had long since gained the ability to tune out background noises. A live band played in the next room over, musical notes being carried through the air… But all Clark heard was her. Her voice, her respirations, her heartbeat… Everything.

He mechanically mimed her, bringing his flute to his lips, drinking a gulp of the bubbly liquid.

“Do you read The Daily Planet often? A few months back I received reporter of the month, and I got my picture put on page 5 of the next day’s issue. Maybe you saw me from there.” While not technically a lie, as it truthfully happened, that was obviously not where she remembered his face from.

The casual mood seemed to drop suddenly, just as rapidly as he heard the change in her heart rate. He glanced upwards, searching for any sort of trouble, but found himself allowing her to pull him along to… a closet?

“Who or what did you see, Yen? Why are we hiding in a closet - not that I’m complaining…”

Well they weren't going out of this room until she was gone. "Tissaia.. My mentor" She explained, "No doubt she heard about what happened earlier and has come to take me to the Chapter for a meeting.. We aren't exactly meant to do what I just did willingly" Yennefer explained giving a small shrug of her shoulders.

"I've never been one to stick to the rules, but honestly I really can't be bothered to face a room full of men mostly to decide what they shall do with me.." Yennefer added turning now to face Clark, forgetting for a split moment that they were practically on top of one another." I realise that a closet wasn't very practical but they can track portals" violet eyes looked up to the reporter, "Breathe a word of this and I can assure you that I will make your life hell.. Yennefer is a lawyer and a very good one at that perhaps the best in the city. She is apart of the 'chapter' which are a band of mages and warlocks who like her have varying different jobs which are highly paid and known as being prestige. Yen didn't get into this group because she wanted to, her step father hated her and forced her out where she was picked up by Tiassia the Wrecktress who taught Yen and many other girls.

She was born with a deformed spine and protruding jaw but to ascend Yennefer had to go through a transformation like everyone else. She decided to keep her Violet eyes and scars on her wrists but everything else about her changed physically. Yennefer now works as a highly successful lawyer.

Of course he hadn't cottoned onto what was going to happen, because if he did then she knew he'd only try to stop her. "Oh doctor.." Yennefer responded, "I'm sorry.. She gave a small laugh, as if he were joking although she quickly realised that he wasn’t. “That’s funny because I didn’t see you there” or she did for he was the one who she had encountered to begin with. “The daily planet you say? Well I’m afraid Mr Kent that I am going to have to decline your interview. I don’t just go around talking to papers about things.. Although I’m sure that isn’t the first time you’ve heard that” Yennefer admitted giving a quick smile.

She noticed the way he examined her features further, it wasn’t the first time others had done that, men had done that.. “There is a evening party on for the more famous of sorts around here, lawyers, bankers, business owners.. I’m sure the Daily Planet have been invited to report and have a good time, perhaps I’ll see you there.” Yennefer commented placing one of the fallen towels into his hands, the breeze picked up for a second, that scent of lilac and gooseberries wafted in the air, floral and sweet. Violet eyes fixed on his own vivid blue ones, admiring the dark curls, the way his glasses framed his face. “Or maybe you’ll see me?”

The man gave a single chuckle as he replaced his badge into his pocket.

“Not to state the obvious or anything but you were kinda busy holding a building over your head and saving people. Completely understandable that you don’t remember a singular face from the crowd.”

She denied the opportunity of an interview - something he didn’t see surprising all that much. He tried his best to look disappointed and give a sad shrug of his shoulders.

“Damn. At least I can’t say I didn’t try.”

But then the mood seemed to change… and she caught Clark completely off-guard with her invite.

“I remember. . hearing about that, around the office. I’ll —“ gulp, “— have to ask Perry if anybody has been given that assignment yet.”

The towel was placed into his grip, feeling much heavier than its actual weight.

“— I’ll be there.”

Yennefer gave a small smile, eyes fixed on Clark. "I'll be sure to stand on the opposite side of the room to you" Was she joking? Probably not. Yennefer wasn't one to warm to others easily, normally finding them infuriating to some degree. She could tell that he was curious about her, most were.. Yet they always wanted something in return, she kept herself guarded and Yen wasn't going to remove that wall for him.

"have a nice rest of your day Mr Kent, perhaps I'll see you at the event" With that Yennefer walked off back to her apartment to change out of the clothes into something dry.

She walked through her apartment door, getting ready for the prestigious party. She showered, did her hair and changed. Ordering herself a taxi even though she didn't need it. The event was being held in the town hall, the music already could be heard, people turning up one by one. Yennefer stepped out of the taxi, she had high heels, a long navy blue dress that embellished had sequins and beading, her raven hair blow dried and styled so most of it was over one shoulder. She held her clutch bag giving her name at the door they let her inside. The music wasn't obnoxiously loud but the bass could be heard, Yennefer picked up a glass of champagne sipping on the drink. Violet eyes looking around the room for any of her friends who were due to also attend.
