Hello, everyone! We know that there are so many fic exchanges going on around this time, but we felt like it was prime time to create this one: The H/L Nonbinary Fic Exchange! We are super excited to do this, and we hope it all goes well.
A fic exchange is a beautiful process where one person submits a certain amount of prompts (in this case, 3-5) they would like to have written for them, and in return they will write a fic based on the prompts submitted by another person. It starts out anonymously; you know who youâre writing for, but the recipient doesnât know who you are, and you donât know the person whoâs writing a fic for you. After a certain amount of time, all of the authors will be revealed.Â
Now, onto some very important information about this exchange:
PURPOSE OF THIS FIC EXCHANGE:
This fic exchange is meant to increase the NB representation and visibility in the fandom, as well as increase the amount of fics with said representation (seriously, this fandom is so lacking in this aspect, itâs just sad.)
GUIDELINES & RULES:
First and foremost, one or both of the main characters has to be nonbinary. Thatâs the entire point of this exchange :D For more information on what nonbinary is or means, and all other gender identities that fall under this wonderful umbrella, click here or feel free to ask us questions! Remember, weâre trying to increase representation but weâre going to do so accurately and respectfully; so please, donât be afraid to ask questions if youâre unsure about something â„
The main characters/pairing is Harry/Louis. You are, of course, more than welcome to incorporate any and all pairings you wish to your fic - just make sure theyâre not your main pairing.Â
The minimum word count for this fic exchange is 4,000 words. However, we definitely encourage everyone to write as much as they want! The longer, the better â„
When youâre signing up, make sure to include three to five prompts! Be as detailed as possible, so that the person who gets your prompts knows exactly what you want and how you want it!Â
All fics must be betaâd before submission! For those who donât know, betaing is when someone proofreads and edits your fic so that itâs all polished and beautiful! We will be posting a list of betas soon after the sign ups are closed. If youâre interested in being a beta and/or a britpicker, fill out this form!
This is an anonymous fic exchange; therefore, when submitting your fic, be sure to not include your tumblr or anything that might give you away. You are welcome to ask us for information regarding the person youâre writing for, and if we have the information, and the person has previously given us permission to share such information, we will give it to you.Â
Last but definitely not least, if you signed up but cannot, for any kind of reason, fulfill your assignment, please message us as soon as possible! The point of an exchange is to give and receive a fic, and we want to make sure everyone who writes, gets something written for them. We understand that complications may arise, but please, let us know. The general, drop-out date is posted below. Eventually, we will post a form for all of those interested in being pinch-hitters.

December 1st: Fics start being Posted! (December is Nonbinary Pride and Awareness Month, so itâd be absolutely awesome to have a plethora of fics ready for this!)

FINALLY, ADDITIONAL IMPORTANT STUFF:
Itâs a process of giving and receiving, so please donât sign up for this exchange if you have no intention of writing a fic. Thatâs usually the biggest problem in fic exchanges, so please, please, please, donât be a meanie.
Remember: FIC EXCHANGES ARE ALL ABOUT HAVING FUN! Donât worry about ânot being good enoughâ - you are definitely more than good enough! Even if this is your first time writing - fic exchanges are meant to help you polish your abilities and skills, so never be afraid of joining because you donât have much experience. You have five months to write it - if you need any help, let us know!
Also, if you feel unsure about something concerning the gender identity youâre writing about - donât hesitate to ask us! We might not know absolutely everything there is to know, but weâre going to inform ourselves plenty in order to make sure these fics are wonderful, accurate and respectful. You can make your characterâs identity the main part of your plot, you can make it a fact evident throughout but not the entire focus - itâs all good, but make sure you present it accurately! Here is some general information of many of the gender identities that fall under the nonbinary umbrella.Â
