ichigo/orihime also don't make sense in the end if you consider ori is most valuable to ichigo as a healer. however in this "ending" we got ichigo basically retired from his duties as a soul reaper. so what is the point of having an ultra healer at his side? none

only healing ichigo needs is therapy from seeing the love of his life get married off to the man who was excited to watch her die but hey i didn't write this ending....

i've fallen into anime shipping hell

from the 4 shows i've watched:

hated most characters, the main couple was so boring, and they killed off one of the only good characters. very first anime i watched. 0/10

i liked a weird ship. main character died. last season sucked. 0/10

bleach. only one real ship and that only lives in my heart. 0/10 major heartbreak. insane fumble in the epilogue.

i mean main couple was cute first season but now im in season 4 i think and he hasn't even thought of his girlfriend once. 5/10 was cute season 1 but should've been a slower burn.

it's cruel if you think about the fact that rukia had felt undeserving of love and her own life for so long, she stopped fighting for it.

her sister abandoned her, brother never showed he cared, childhood friend stopped talking to her, and then the man she admired died by her own sword after he was possessed by a hollow.

then ichigo comes into her life, and makes her feel wanted and cared for, and by coming to rescue her, she actually wants to live.

yet she ends up married to the childhood friend who ignored her for years. basically all bc a certain author wanted ichigo to "marry the hot girl".

thinking from ichigo's perspective:

if a girl i just met jumped in front of a giant monster-looking ghost to save me and my family

gave me her power so that i could protect, even if it made her lose most of her own

trained me and let me fight the monster who killed my mom while giving me the space i need (all while making sure i lived and healing my battle wounds)

then made sure i didn't get killed while her brother and childhood "friend" took her away

making me feel like the only thing i have to do is save her

then i find out she's been talking nothing but highly of me the entire time she waits on her execution

makes me want to be stronger, to the point where i got ultimate power (bankai) to save her

and when i caught up to her right as her execution was about to happen, she was brought to tears

and her smile reminded me why i wanted to save her so bad

i would realize i'm madly in love

IH's claiming Ichigo was very upset when Ori was taken to HM... like, that man spared her NO thought in the manga. It didn't even rain, which is a representation of Ichigo's despair. He was more upset at SS abandoning him for the rescue mission than Ori's actual absence-

if feeds you a little hope the ichiruki fandom is still very much alive, we even had a resourgence in the pandemic and everything with old school artists & writes who joined the fandom 2 decades ago interacting with younger fans just fine, it might not be was acting because most people went back to their irl interactions but is still there.

definitely feels like a small group of us now lol, although I have no idea what peak bleach (before the manga ended) was.

but with tybw, bleach is gaining traction again

What are your thoughts on RR or IH?

I think along with other people, it’s not good. 

there’s extensive analyses on both, and I generally agree.

IH is one sided, ori obsessing over Ichigo and him not feeling any different for her than his other friends. and she is more in love with the idea of ichigo and not the actual ichigo. I don’t know what deep parts she really knows about him besides what tatsuki told her, and what ori witnessed (reminder she doesn’t even like the part of him that he’s ashamed of, like there’s no support to work him through that part, snap him out of the hollow inside, nothing, no support for him regardless of who he becomes with all his power, just fear).

and I feel like ichigo only married her because rukia was already taken

which brings me to RR, which makes more and less sense at the same time, because yeah they were childhood friends and maybe renji has a thing for rukia but I never really thought she was in love with him. and also how icky he was to her when he happily and cruelly took her back to her execution (which he seemed excited about…). the only way this wouldnt be ooc is if rukia agreed to marry renji to protect ichigo, give him a normal life, and not keep him in the dangerous soul society world she lives in. especially if you count the official illustration of her and renji announcing their wedding, they both look so matter of fact and not excited at all.

but to answer the question, I don’t like, and I think they don’t make enough sense to be a good pairing

some ppl try to say that ichigo was only concerned about losing his powers and zangetsu after the battle with aizen.

yet ichigo's thoughts about rukia (who he can't see) not even coming to visit him once takes up half the page, including so much negative space. showing how significant this is to ichigo's state of depression and overpowering in his thoughts.

just a simple thing i wanted to point out.

Can you give me reasons why we ship IR

there are so many reasons why ir makes most sense and are actually a couple i want to root for.

their chemistry - unlike other potential pairings (canon ones especially) is one of the best ive seen before. a couple that can support one another but also tease one another. they easily have the ability to be in a relationship anywhere from serious to light hearted

their devotion to each other's safety - ichigo mentions wanting to protect his friends (honestly his main motivation for all he does), yet he takes extra precaution for rukia. he tries to protect her from being taken to ss, doesn't want her off by herself in hm, etc. rukia protects ichigo on her way to ss making sure his life is spared, and even before knowing each other well made sure to protect him from the hollows and himself. putting someone's life before yours is a pure way to show love.

they know each other so well - there are times in the series where rukia and ichigo recognize what the actions of one another mean versus their words. so when ichigo sees rukia after surgery in tybw arc, she immediately knows something's wrong, like when he's a hollow as well. ichigo knows rukia's loyalty to her brother in their first encounter before she's taken prisoner isn't because she really thinks ichigo is too lowly to grab byakuya's robe. even early on, they are extremely aware of each other's emotions.

these are just things that foundationally make a strong relationship, and there's other reasons beyond that

being the sun to the moon

connected by the string of fate

death and the strawberry being literal chapter titles in canon manga

the way they look at each other

can call out each other's bs

mirror ichigo's parents in a significant way

and while ichigo was sad and unable to do much of anything about losing powers and rukia, rukia was trying to give him his powers back

and really the complete devotion ichigo had to saving rukia (when the poor girl was resigned to her own fate already) was the most romantic storyline in the whole series.

really i could go on and on about why they would've made such a great romance

ANNOYED at people saying rukia does not mirror masaki.

isshin compares masaki to the SUN.

SUN is what dries up rain...

ichigo LITERALLY SAYS rukia dries his rain.

ADDITIONALLY

masaki and rukia both are willing to die for the people they love.

AND

those who argue rukia is "too rough" and "tom-boy" to be like masaki clearly haven't seen the same rukia we all have. and this argument is only made because dumbass renji said that about her as a child (yeah how romantic.)

yeah the girl who loses to a PLUSHIE because it's too cute to cut down

or the chappy obsessed girl who freaks out over kurōdo because he's a bunny.

basically rukia and masaki are badasses with a cute side who symbolize drying the rain for the men in their lives. yet they wanna say these two are nothing alike 🙄
