Victoria Gámez Tudela, Photographer Humans of Bournemouth has a little chat with Victoria Gámez Tudela about her past, present and future in the world of photography… DID YOU ALWAYS KNOW YOU WANTED TO BE A PHOTOGRAPHER? Actually, no – when I was younger I liked drawing and dancing, but I didn’t study art because I thought it wouldn’t help me build a future, and I left dancing because I injured my leg. I eventually decided to study business management: I liked the marketing modules and so now I’m dedicating part of my spare time to that. I didn’t become really interested in photography until I started taking photos on a trip to Spain with my partner. After that, I decided to take lessons and courses. I still have my first camera – a Pentax KX – and I don’t have any intention of changing it at the moment. CAN YOU SEE PHOTOGRAPHY PLAYING A BIG PART IN YOUR FUTURE? In the future I’d like to study more about Marketing and improve my photography skills, and show them to the world, or whatever fate has in store. When I’m much older, I would like to tell my grandchildren that it doesn’t matter what they would like to do, they should just follow their thoughts and be committed to undertake their objectives. My favourite quote is one from Walt Disney: “If you can dream it, you can do it”. That’s so true, and I try to use it as a guide in my life.

Humans of Bournemouth aims to help local artists and musicians by organising fundraising campaigns for their projects and developing their hobby into something more, and bringing them a step closer to sharing it with the world. With this in mind… introducing our new festival COLOURLAND. Coming Summer 2018, we plan to take over a well-known area of town, where we bring you music, we bring you art, we bring you live performance – all courtesy of Bournemouth’s artistic talents – the Humans of Bournemouth. From street dance to graffiti. A true exhibition of the flair and style of Bournemouth’s most promising creatives, during both day and night. But unlike other festivals, we are making you a part of every moment, providing you with a full interactive experience – by way of our app, which will enable you to follow the entire festival in an immersive Augmented Reality application on your mobile devices. In addition, we plan to work with Bournemouth Council to help support homeless and disadvantaged groups in the area. Presented by a Technicolour Dream Master of Ceremonies (currently TBC), w e offer a programme including live drawing, street dance, live music and singing, and exhibitions of photography, fine art and sculpture. If you’d like to apply in one of the above-mentioned categories, applications will be open from 1st January – 1st May 2018. Please send these with a portfolio of work/material to [email protected] (at Humans of Bournemouth)

Dale Hurst, Journalist Food blogger, writer, and true Human of Bournemouth Dale tells us about his brain child Expensive Tastes and his hopes for its future… HOW DID EXPENSIVE TASTES FIRST START? It was technically born in Florence, back in February 2012 on a college trip. I had decided not to go to university immediately after leaving school, but I already had an idea that I wanted to enter journalism for a career. I asked a couple of friends who were already in or entering the business for advice for when it came to be applying for journalism degrees and they said, “the best thing you can do is practice, and the best way to do that is to blog”. I already knew I wanted to write about food and travel so I just started it. HAS THIS ALWAYS BEEN A SOLO PROJECT? I was the only writer for around a year-and-a-half, but while at university I started taking on guest contributors. Every year for the last five years I have had at least one new person join as a guest writer. Our current one is a vegan food writer and lifestyle coach who sends me a couple of recipes a month. HOW WILL YOU USE THE SKILLS FROM YOUR DEGREE TO BUILD ON YOUR IDEA? When I was studying, I really would have loved to have pursued a career in radio (I still would). I gained skills in both radio and TV presenting, and in running Expensive Tastes I would try to build more on those skills as we grow. For example, I am hoping to get our YouTube channel up-and-running with proper, professional content – cooking demos, since I have done a few of those before. We have the content planned, we have a graphic designer interested in doing us some video graphics; we just need a kitchen set. But I think a properly-run YouTube channel will be the key to us becoming profitable – I like to think I’m good enough at what I do to make it work! I know where I want to end up, I know the plans in between; it’s the starting up bit that’s the most difficult. (at Humans of Bournemouth)
